Gifts for bridesmaids

I'm about 2.5 weeks away from my wedding and I'm totally blanking on bridesmaids gifts.  I have four; two are my sisters.  I'm thinking something besides jewelry, maybe even something different for each girl (one of them really needs a good blowdryer).

What do you think?  Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Re: Gifts for bridesmaids

  • Buy gifts for them like it is their birthday or Christmas.  What hobbies do they have?  What do they like?  Is one a big wine snob?  Is someone a book worm?  Does one love makeup?  And if one of them has expressed interest in a fancy schmancy hair dryer then that is a perfect present because that is something that she wants.

  • Totally cool to do something different for each of them. The general advice is "shop like it's their birthday." Jewelry that they're supposed to wear in the wedding shouldn't be considered their gift at all.

  • Tailor it to their personalities and likes.

For example, I'm only having my sister as my MOH. I'm giving her a custom bracelet of our grandmother's saying, "oodles of love" in my grandmother's handwriting. I know it will cue ugly crying. It better, at least.

Keep it personal and something they'll actually want to receive and use.

  • I agree with PPs. It does need to be (and usually preferably isn't) wedding related. I got my MOH a hockey jersey because she wanted one. Coincidentally she threw me a Blackhawks-themed shower so it worked out even better.

  • If I needed a good hair dryer and you got me one as my gift, honestly I'd be super excited about it. Do that!

For the others, if they love to cook get them some fancy cooking stuff or a wok. Something fun like that. If they like wine, a nice bottle of wine and maybe a set of glasses (if they don't already have some). For the chick who's obsessed with make-up, pretty stuff from Sephora or a fancy make-up bag with a Sephora gift card in it. Etc etc etc. I'm sure you get the idea :)

OMG this made me tear up.  That's so sweet and your sister will love it
  • What worked out nicely for me was hitting a major Kate Spade sale. My sister loves designer purses, one friend loves wristlets, and for the third I got a lovely wallet that she can toss her in huge mom-purse. They really loved them. Key word = sale. We also didn't do a rehearsal/dinner so I had more to spend on them.
It kind of goes with the "choose like it's their birthday" and with my luck, they all like accessories.

  • I've always wanted a fancy blow dryer, so if you bought me that, I would be hella stoked.

I got stuff from fab.com, they have neat shelves, jewelry, bags, etc. that are all a little bit different and fun. For my college BFF, I got her a shelf that looks like a NYC fire escape (we lived together in NYC for a few years), my sister got a mirror that looks like the Deathly Hallows from Harry Potter and my SIL got a cool, custom cooler with the Colorado flag on it (that one came from Etsy). They also each got a nice picture frame.

  • Thanks for your suggestions; this is very helpful!  Two down, two to go :)

    Have a great day, everyone!
