Re: rant about my mother

  • Is your mom always snarky like that or was it really just a passing observation? Without knowing your mom it is hard to tell. My aunt the raised me would have snarked all over it to make me feel like crap. I know others who would mean nothing by it.

Is she usually supportive or does she like to rain on your parade?
  • no she is always trying to one up someone and it gets annoying really freaking annoying >.< sorry i'm just really mad
she is loving really she is offering to pay for my dress but i just feels like she want to one up her sister at times its very upsetting

  • Ok, you know this is how she rolls, this is her norm. She is not going to change because you are getting married. You can't control her but you can control your reaction and how you let her affect you. You can either ignore her or you can call her out by saying "why would you say that? You are never happy unless you are calling someone out or one - upping the situation. Stop it!"
  • you know the last is how i handled it and she stopped talking about i told her that i was happy with my ring and its what i wanted other than the fact that it didn't fit me and she stopped talking about it and started talking about my dress

    thank you :D

  • My mum did similar but so innocently I passed comment to my mum that I didn't realise how similar my ring was to my sister's until we got together (were not overly close) she was like oh hers is more blingy (read bigger) but mum wouldn't have ever meant it how it was said. So small chance she didn't hear how it was going to be said in her head!!
  • What was your response?
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

If you have no problem with her comment then why are you "pissed":

"Should i be as pissed as i really am right now? :/"

I think @kmmssg gave you really good advice.

I'm sorry your Mom said this and acts this way, it seems shitty :/

When I got engaged, my brother said to me, "Why don't you and your twin sis compare rings to see who has a bigger rock?"  I was extremely irritated by this. My sister's FI had recently lost his job, and I am sure they didn't want to have finances rubbed in their face.  PLUS my sister has a BEAUTIFUL ring.  In fact, I fell in love with it and then said... where have I seen this before.  Yep, I almost got my sister's ring.
And for someone who thought size was important, he gave his girlfriend a smaller ring then both of us... and she LOVED it!  Size does not matter... it's the gesture of asking someone to be yours forever... that's what makes us melt.
I just don't get what the big deal is about comparing.  Every ring is as different as the person who wears it. Some people have all the money in the world and would prefer a smaller ring.  A ring is about personal taste... that is why they shouldn't be compared.
  • Quality is not necessarily the rocks size in the jewellers I dealt with their was some very small diamonds but was more expensive than the big ones for the reason of the diamonds quality or the craftsmanship put into the creation of the ring my ring was one of the smaller expensive rings in the shop and I fell in love with it for its design and timelessness. Got to admit it did shine ridiculously in the shop as it's a good quality diamond :-)
So comparing sizes unless you know what your really looking at is pretty pointless really so wouldn't worry!.

Yep.  I have a pretty small ring / stone, and while it's not that expensive, the stones were of higher quality so people just looking at "size" would probably be surprised at what it cost "for the size."
