We have two words for engagement if you mean that.
And it is hard to translate and explain it.
    Let's say you are a couple here,ok?
Ok.So you talk, and decide you want to have a traditional wedding.
And you both of you want to be engaged, announce it to your families,
    and start planning a wedding.
    So what do you do?
You go and shop for wedding rings! These will be the rings you will be wearing
after your wedding too.But before the ceremony you are wearing them on the right hand, and then after it on the left.
So now you will gather family and friends and wear your weddings rings,on your left hand only.Congratulations, you are engaged! No proposal between. And most likely no diamond ring. The only chance you are getting one is A.You get a proposal AND an engagement B.You skip the engagement, and he proposes to you and you get married or C.While shopping weddings rings you get a diamond ring too.Like buy one get one.Because you drooled over one probably,or your FI,FMIL,parents, whoever got you one as a gift.

This is clearly a huge difference between the US and Greece. It literally makes NO sense to me.

  • It is.And I understand why it makes no sense to you, really.
The whole thing is always hard to explain, because it's different.
I found an article about it.

Let's just say, that we wait until February. It will happen then.
We will be engaged for everyone.

  • @marylab - I was in Greece for a 2 week trip a few years ago, and I do remember some things being so different there!  I have a few friends that I've kept up with via Facebook, so I'm slightly familiar with all this.

I'm also wondering if you're typing on a computer or using a tablet/mobile device...?
  • @CocoBellaF Where did you stay?

I was typing from my phone in the morning.
And there was no weird spacing.I saw it later on the computer.
There were different fonts as well.I just have to go back and correct it.
When I type, everything seems fine though.

  • my iPad will sometimes do weird spacing or change the fonts, so I was curious.

I stayed in Athens for a week and Thessaloniki for a week, but we visited a lot of places.  it is a gorgeous country!  I plan to come back one day with my husband for a trip.
  • @CocoBellaF I will try to post on the computer from now on.
    And check twice the grammar/spelling.
I don't use commas enough and it's hard to read indeed.

Well I wish you to stay longer the next time and enjoy the islands too!
Some of them are absolutely beautiful.Athens and Thessaloniki are the
two biggest cities so they are very crowded and are lacking beauty the
    past years,with all the concrete.

Grammar and spelling aren't actually important to everyone around here...

  • @Swazzle either way,it helps people understanding what on earth I'm trying to say.
And cutting words too.I still tend to translate rather than thinking in English when I'm typing.
    I need practice.
Btw I like your signature gif! haha JL is one of my favorite :)

  • I don't really understand Greek culture of engaged and marriage since clearly they are VERY different from America, but welcome to NEY!
