Wedding Bands....Again

Re: Wedding Bands....Again

  • We just bought FI's a couple weeks ago -- brushed titanium, roughly $10 on Amazon. CLICKY

He absolutely loves it and keeps wanting to wear it now.
  • So switching gears, I went to talk to the jeweler.  We started talking about what band I would like with mine.  I would like to (but do not HAVE to) have a band that matches my engagement ring, or is close to matching.  The jeweler said that it would be difficult to find a ring to match my engagement one because the band on it is so detailed.  I don't want to spend a lot of money making a custom ring for me, so now I'm thinking either just a plain white gold band or none at all.  I attached a pic of the ring, what do you all think? Should I forgo the band? or just get something simple?

  • I would just get a plain white gold band, maybe a pretty thin one, to go with it. But I definitely want a wedding band, even though it took me months to find one to go with my e-ring.

Are there pave diamonds on your e-ring? Could you just get a thin, pave band? Something like this: CLICK
  • Yes there are pave diamonds on it.  I was thinking something just like that would be good, I just don't want to spend a fortune on it (I want to keep it under $500).  I have been thinking about browsing etsy to see if I find anything, I just haven't yet.

  • We went with 14K white gold with diamond insets @ $1800.  Just a thought to keep in mind with the Titanium and Tungsten rings.  If your FI has an alloy allergy it may cause itching/ rash on finger.  I bought my ex-husband a Titanium band and spent @ $500 on it and he refused to wear it because it was so itchy.  In the end I wound up buying him a cheaper white gold band that he was much more comfortable with.

  • And @esstee33 I love your FI band.  I'm going to show it to FI and see what he thinks.  It looks like a style he would like.

I would do a thin 2-3mm pave band.

*Side note do you ever have that moment where you spell a word right, but swear it is wrong...  I just had that moment with band SMH...

Thanks! We wanted something that was super durable, but also very lightweight, which gave titanium an edge over tungsten. He wasn't sure if he would like the brushed finish, but when saw one in person he couldn't stop thinking about how cool it was, haha. Plus, brushed will hide scratches better.

Etsy FTW, lady -- look! CLICK
  • Could your jeweler do a thin band that's shaped to the curve of your E-ring for yours, without matching the detail? (Note: I know nothing about band costs because mine came as a set.)

  • @lolo883 He said it's difficult because the halo on my ring doesn't dip down, if that makes any sense.  The band and the halo are the same width, the halo and the center stone just sit up really high.  So he says it would be hard to make a curved band to fit because of that.  I really know nothing about custom making jewelry either so he could just be filling me full of crap, I don't think he would though because he's very reputable and talented.

  • FI has a thin white gold band with a brushed center.  He's been wearing a ring since last spring because he likes wearing a ring signaling he's taken, lol.  He's looking forward to ditching that thick band and wearing the real deal because it's much thinner and lighter.

  • My ring was custom so I had the halo designed where the band could fit under it.

Yours doesn't have room, so I see the issue you're up against. I would go with something that could sit as flush to it as possible. Your ring is really detailed so I think a plain band would be beautiful.

  • I'm late to the party, but:

FI knew he didn't want anything too fancy/ contemporary. He likes traditional looking bands, but he also didn't want a "new" metal like tungsten/ cobalt. He wants a ring he'll wear forever, that could be resized, etc. He also wanted a silver colored ring. We then went to jewelery stores, he tried on rings, and decided pretty quickly he liked 4mm and 5mm plain or milgrain bands. He leaned towards milgrain and 5mm.

He's  not getting white gold, because I'm allergic to the nickel in it... it probably wouldn't affect me if he did get it but... eh. He was deciding between platinum (what I'm getting) and palladium. He's decided to go with palladium because it is much less expensive (pretty much the same price as white gold). It's also about the same weight as white gold. He's never worn rings before, so the heft of a platinum ring might annoy him. But, honestly, cost was the main factor.

He's going to get this comfort fit, 5mm milgrain palladium ring for $490 (minus a small discount for american express I think):  http://www.bluenile.com/comfort-fit-palladium-wedding-ring_14194?click_id=317983597

I might get a 2mm platinum milgrain band from brilliant earth for $575 to match his ring. I liked ALL THE RINGS. I had (am having?) a really hard time deciding what to do. I just had a spaz about it on the NEY board.

I think a thin plain, engraved, or pave band would look great with your ring. Under $500 in white gold or platinum (can't remember which one you're looking at!) is definitely doable without diamonds. Personally, I didn't want a thin pave ring, BECAUSE it would match my engagement ring. I kind of think that just makes it look like one thicker ring.
  • You could also wear your band on your other hand if you don't think anything looks right with your engagement ring!
  • OMG my hubs to be, had the same problem. Our jeweler recommend buying a Cliq ring.  They open and close so you dont need to slide it over the nuckle at all and it will never get stuck! Best idea ever, they have a bunch of styles of mens and womens bands.  I would definitely recommend checking them out!
