Friday!

Hi Ladies

It's been a busy week.  I'm off to not the best morning - it could be worse.  I got to work later than I wanted to and when I was backing into my spot, I almost hit a cyclist who decided to whip around the BACK of my car.  Dude - if you were in a car you would have stopped; I expect the SAME courtesy from a person on a bike (as you're supposed to follow the road conditions).  So I was a little shaken up from almost hitting the cyclist and I dropped my phone on the stairs coming into my building.  Thankfully I only cracked the tempered glass screen protector - so I've already ordered a new one.  It isn't even that bad, but the crack bothers me (it's just one thin little line).

Today's H's bday!  I picked him up a card, but I still have to pick up a cake and a gift card since he didn't tell me what he wants (I got him a few other sports collectables that I already gave him).

This weekend, I have to work :( - at least I get OT!

That's about it.  Just been busy with work stuff and haven't been able to post.

Re: Friday!

  • @dignity100 So sorry that your commute was like that!

I'm sitting in a phone conference that is so boring. Thank goodness it is Friday. I want this day to fly so I can go home and just nap. I may be coming down with a cold or something. I will have Monday off- I am so happy! This will be a P&R, so I hope everyone has a great Friday!
  • Morning!

I also wanted to get into work a bit earlier than I did, but bed was so warm and cozy.

Tonight FI and I are going for dinner with his family and then going to see American Sniper with friends. Tomorrow I think I get to have a lazy morning, couple of wedding things to look into but nothing major, and then tomorrow afternoon is cooking with FMIL and FSIL. Sunday we have nothing planned after church; probably run some errands and just hang out.

    good morning, happy Friday!!!

I am here until 11:30.  I have meetings from 9:00-11:00, so the morning should fly by.

after work, I'm going to grab some lunch (I'm thinking a gyro salad?) and then run errands and get groceries.  I'm picking out new running shoes today so I can start training for my next 5K.  I haven't run since the Turkey Trot, so I gotta get back at it.

tonight I'm making Carne Adovada (YUM), so as soon as I get back with the groceries I need to get it simmering.  it takes 2 or 3 hours of simmering on the stove, so I think we'll watch some Netflix or do our PIYO work out while we wait.

tomorrow we're getting up really early to drive to AR for a funeral.  H has to make some remarks and sing (I'll play for him), so I guess we need to practice tonight.  we'll leave around 7 AM and get back around midnight.  long day on the road.

Sunday will be church and NAPS.  I love naps.

ETA:  I'm also going by the LOFT outlet tonight.  I have a $25 rewards card, plus they are having up to 60% off!  woo-hoo!!
  • I'm working from home today. I'm meeting one of my best friends for lunch this afternoon at one of my favorite restaurants. It's called SALT and it has the yummiest food!

Tonight we are going over to another friend's house for dinner. They just moved into this huge house that they are renting with another guy. The pups will have tons of space to play and we are grilling so I'm excited.

Saturday DH will be helping his mom pack up for their move and I'll be chilling at home with Maddux. I might do some cleaning and just lounging in my pjs.

Sunday is church and I need to call our insurance company about paying us back for our wreck two months ago. We were supposed to get our deductible back and it has been since October so hopefully they will have that ready soon. I also need to get my diminished value for our most recent wreck so I'll have to call my dad's insurance company about that.

    Happy Friday!

@dignity100, happy birthday to your H! I hope today is calmer than this morning for you. ETA: Time frames. I know what they are.

@lmcooper86, hope the movie is good. I've heard good things from friends who have seen it.

@twodimes, any plans for your date?
    ---
Today I have meetings and class from 11-3 solid. And the theory is I get more writing to review this morning (job security how I love thee). Today will be very busy. Tonight is Friday night gaming for the first time this semester; I'll probably knit and try to turn up some food.

Tomorrow FI is going to do a lot of decluttering-type work around the house, and I'm going to continue knitting, dissertation-writing, and reviewing the PI's work (if I don't get it done today).

Sunday FI and I are spending the day with my mom to celebrate her birthday (deja vu all over again, huh, @twodimes?). I might be able to watch the Packers-Seahawks game with my MoH over Facebook or Skype depending on how well her internet connection is working. I'm still leading my family's football picks pool, so I'm putting my picks in last so no one can pick against me purely to pick against me. This might be slightly paranoid.

FI and I both have Monday off, but we're not sure what we're doing yet.
  • @Dignity100 - What a crummy start to the day. I hope the rest of it goes better. Happy Birthday to your H!

I'm also WFH today. The girls are off school (teacher workday, student holiday for the end of the grading period). I finally had a better night's sleep last night, not great, just better. We have a busy weekend with a church function Saturday, birthday dinner for my Grandma and Aunt (Grams is turning 92!)

Sunday we have church in the morning, a senior photo session in the afternoon, and birthday dinner for my mom. Why do we pack so much crap into our weekends that we forget about relaxing?!

Good morning everyone! So jealous of anyone who has off on Monday, the next holiday I get is Good Friday.

@dignity100 Hopefully the rest of your day is much better than your morning, and happy birthday to your H.

TwoDimes enjoy your date, even if it is lunch and food shopping!

CocoBellaF Thanks for the reminder! I think I may be going to the outlets tonight.

southernpeach89 Hopefully your insurance issues a check soon.

Ollie08 hopefully you can find some time to relax, even if it is during the birthday dinners.

I will probably go to the outlets after work.  Tomorrow I'm having a girl's day with my best friend and niece. Sunday will be a day of packing and relaxing.

I'm really irritated with my school and their backwards thinking.  Classes start Monday and my one class still has not been assigned a professor and the schedule says the class is from 10:00am - 5:00pm Saturday.  I just want to know what the actual time for the class is since every other graduate class is 2.5 hours.

The problem is they made a large amount of program cuts last year, and now are limited on faculty in most of the remaining departments.  This limit has caused them to not have courses available that are required for degrees and are allowing students to substitute any class to fulfill credit hours.  This class that does not have a professor is a substitute class for me. Since it has nothing to do with my program, I am not ok having to spend my entire Saturday in a classroom.

  • Good morning, ladies!!

@Dignity100 - That is so stressful. I'm always super paranoid about bikers, because 90% of them don't follow the rules of the road like they're supposed to.

@lmcooper86 - I want to know how American Sniper is! I've obviously heard amazing things, and I want to see it really badly.

@twodimes - Hooray for puppy snuggles, happy hours, and day dates!!

@southernpeach89 - What are you going to get to eat tonight??

    @keptinstitches - Enjoy your long weekend :)

@LaPeanut1018 - HOORAY for sunshine!! It's snowing here again. How come you didn't pack sun in my package??

    *****

I have to get a bunch of things done today, and I'll be here late because of hockey, so hopefully I can get everything finished. I have to work tomorrow night too, and then Sunday is FI's birthday! We're going to go to dinner at this restaurant near us that gives a free entree with the purchase of another on your birthday! They also have this General Tso's calamari that is FI's favorite, so I'm looking forward to that.

AND, day off on Monday! I am going to have to do some work at home, because I have Monday deadlines for hockey-related things, but I'd much rather be working on my couch in my pjs, so it's okay :)

  • @goldenpenguin -BURGERS!!! I love me some cheese burgers!
  • Good morning all. I'm exhausted from last night...our dog ATE AN ENTIRE CHICKEN. He never jumps up on counters (seriously) so H thinks a ghost did it (H thinks our house is haunted...earlier that day H was sitting at the desk with the space heater on and it just stopped, H thought the fuse tripped so he went downstairs to fix it, tried the heater again and no luck...he checked the cord and the cord unplugged itself somehow? no one else was in the house...I think H probably tripped over the cord and doesn't remember). Anyway, now I'm freaked about chicken bones and was sleepless all night checking on our dog. He seems ok. The vet said to keep an eye on him. Anyone been through something similar with their fur baby?
  • My weekend is pretty busy but mostly theater related stuff. I've got shows this weekend, I'm looking forward to it so much, I wish the show ran longer.  I also have rehearsal early tomorrow morning and I'll probably need a napy Saturday afternoon before my show.  After my show on Sunday I'll just be able to relax and hang out with H.  I have off on Monday too,woo hoo! I'll need to go grocery shopping & take my car for an oil change.

  • TGIF!

I'm really excited because my coworkers and I are going to lunch at my favorite Turkish restaurant today. Mmmm gyro meat, saksuka, and pide. Om nom nom. And the tea! It's like crack. So good! They also have the best baklava, but I'm trying to be good. I got on the scale this morning and didn't hate what I saw, and I want to continue with that progress.

Anywho, I may sneak out of here a little early and get my nails done. It's been about a month since I last went to the salon, and the gel color is halfway up my nail now. So classy! :-P

Tonight FI and I are going to see The Imitation Game with some friends, which should be really good. Tomorrow we may go see a friend's new apartment and hang out with him for a while. and then Sunday FI is talking about inviting some people over to play his Star Wars miniatures game he got for Christmas. I'm just hoping that whatever we end up doing, I'm able to sit and knit for the majority of the weekend. I'm bound and determined to finish his scarf.

@Dignity100 UGH cyclists drive me nuts! It seems like most of them don't obey traffic laws, and then they yell at you for almost killing them while they're being reckless. Sorry you had a rough morning :( Happy Birthday to your H!

@TwoDimes Have fun on your date!

@LaPeanut1018 Congrats on the bonus and the great review!

@southernpeach89 Good luck with the insurance company! I hope it's quick and painless.

@speakeasy14 Ugh, that class sounds awful. Is it every Saturday, or just a few times per month?

FI and I just had a yummy breakfast then we are off to get MASSAGES! I'm going to be in heaven in like an hour. Tomorrow we have a riding lesson then we're going up to my parents to celebrate my birthday which should be fun.

@TwoDimes, have fun on your date!

Congrats @LaPeanut1018 on the bonus! That's exciting. :)

  • @Dignity100 Sorry about your morning. But yay Happy Birthday to your H!

@KeptInStitches what are you knitting now?Wasn't it something to you,and then
you was back to baby blankets or have I a horrible memory?

    @Minskat30 my parent's dog once ate half a chicken.Is your pup bug/small?
He is medium sized,he threw up because he ate too much but was fine with
    the bones.

Yesterday we celebrated Fi's two new orders he got, which are right one time,so
we tried a new place with souvlaki. There are a ton of these here where we live
and I'm kinda sick of them,I miss some Applebee's and Simply Burgers but there
are too far to go.It was pretty nice and different.

Today I woke up early to stop staying late in bed not being able to sleep,
and had a phone call about a snow white christening.Fingers crossed I it,
I really liked the mum on the phone and she's having her wedding later in the
    year,and has a good budget.So we could do a lot of nice things,and I haven't
done that theme yet, along with a vintage feel.I failed to get in touch with two other
girls,so I have to get things going on the weekend.
Aside from that, everything's calm here.No plans for the weekend yet.

  • Morning, ladies!

I ended up going to bed at, like, 10pm last night. It was spectacular and completely necessary. I've got a couple of experiments to run today, and a meeting at 2pm (need to check and find out where). I'm likely not going to need to work that late this afternoon, though.

This weekend should be fun. J and I have a TON of cleaning to do. We're planning on going to IKEA next weekend, so this weekend, we need to do a serious deep clean of the apartment. The office in particular is a disaster, and right now, that's got to get done first if anything else is going to get done.

Sunday, we're heading out to Central MA to have dinner with my mom, brother, and future sister-in-law, and to watch the Pats game. I'm excited; I haven't been to my brother's house before!

I've got Monday off, but we'll probably be cleaning, so ... woooo.

  • @marylab - Our dog is X-Large (120lbs) so I think he is ok despite eating the entire chicken.  He didn't throw up last night and hasn't passed any bones yet.  He is just laying low and sleeping it off it seems but I can't help but be worried.

  • @minskat30 I think the biggest danger is the bones because they tend to shatter when the dog eats them. If they stayed mostly whole I'm sure he'll probably be ok especially since he still seems to be acting normal and not sick or anything.

  • eilis1228 ugh every Saturday, which is why the time frame really doesn't make sense.

  • @Ellis1228 - Oh my gosh...I love Turkish food.  Your post made me SO HUNGRY.  I'm going to have to go get my snack early.

I nearly fell asleep on my drive in this morning...I was so tired.  I was mainlining coffee and still was so drowsy!  I had a nice long walk to campus in the cold, though, so that helped quite a bit.  And then I had my lady doctor appointment, so now I'm really awake!  The appointment went well...we decided to keep me on the same kind of BC I was taking until I quit taking it because it was too expensive.  She gave me 6 months worth of samples, so that takes some of the sting out of the cost.

I'm at the office now--going to get ready for class next week and then work on some job applications  After class, I'm going to try to go for a run and do some strength training; then I'm going to go by Ulta, because they're having their big shampoo/conditioner liter sale and I want to stock up.

Tomorrow morning I have an appointment to go get new tires (BOOOOO), then it's dissertation work all day.  Sunday I'll probably make bread and clean the house.

Also, this weekend Mr. H and I are going to try to finish our job application.  I updated my resume yesterday and I'm going to chat with a prof of mine who writes my recommendation letters in a few minutes.  I plan on emailing my other two recommenders shortly after that.  Then, all we need to do is draft our letter of interest, and send everything in!  And then pray.  Hard.

Check back with you ladies later!
  • @Minskat30 well he's your furbaby, how could you not worry?

@phira Why did you had to mention IKEA?
I LOVE this place, and Fi promised we would go
between Christmas and New Year, but we failed
with work and timing..I miss some meatballs..

  • @LaPeanut1018 - That is the rub.  He loves to chew bones.  But, on the bright side, he really chews them well down before swallowing.  I'm taking a half day today to go home and watch him and his dog walker will check on him soon.  I just can't believe what got into him.  He jumped on a counter ONE time when he was a puppy and I corrected it right away.  In five years, he has never done it since.
  • @marylab, yep. I finished a cozy for my cell phone last night, and now I'm back to knitting baby blankets for the craft show(s?) I participate in. Or to sell throughout the year. Dealer's choice.
  • @Dignity100 - OMG, don't even get me started on cyclists. I live in Portland, Land of Fixie Douchebags. It's like they've all signed a suicide pact, and want to use oncoming traffic to help.

@minskat30 - What kind of dog is it? I can't believe the bastard ate your whole chicken! (I'm talking about the ghost of course....) And we have cords fall out at our house all the time because all of the outlets have really loose grips on the plugs. The weight of the cord pulls itself out...... But yes, definitely a ghost. ;)

@marylab - I hope you get hired! A Snow White theme would be so fun!

    ----------------------------

I made manicotti last night, and the stuffing had little pieces of chopped broccoli in it. What a freakin PAIN IN THE ASS to stuff. I think I'll stick to cheese-only mixtures for now. Unless anyone has any advice on making the stuffing process easier? I made the broccoli bits quite small.

Also, since everyone here seems to always have recipe advice, I could use some help! Tomorrow, our friends are making us steaks for dinner. I said I would bring a side dish. The husband is lactose intolerant, so I'm thinking something with only veggies. But it has to go well with steak, and I have to be able to make it early (and if needed, heat it up easily when I'm there), because we will be spending a few hours out and about before then.

On Sunday my BF is going to the shooting range, so I'm going to smoke out and watch the Hawks play the Packers (my two teams) with my buddy from work. And on Monday I don't work so I'm taking the dog up to Olympia to visit my pregnant friend! I haven't even gotten to see her since we got the good news a few months ago.

  • @AlPacina - He is a Great Pyrenees.  The chicken was actually for him (he gets one every night) but H was letting it cool before I deboned it.  He didn't like the wait apparently.  As far as the ghost thing, CLICKY ...this is how I look most of the time.  I'm Scully to H's Mulder without a doubt.
  • @KeptInStitches Phew and for a moment I thought I had memory gaps.
I admire those who can knit, you can't imagine how many people are
willing to pay for knitted favors here.Share a pic!
    Exciting!Wait till you're in singles :D

@AlPacina I think we have a deal. She wanted something really simple and
was quoted some sky numbers and was ready to decorate herself.
This will be the 2nd for this year, and Am' excited!
Mmm steak.I love some bacon or just olive oil/rose pepper asparagus.
And I wouldn't mind a good salad,I make one either with roka or iceberg/mixed salad,
yellow pear, white balsamic or black balsamic, olive oil and some nuts or seeds. We love some
blue cheese in it,but for people who are not fans I set it on a different plate to add.

I am also quite shocked/impressed by this. This is extra funny for me because of how much I hate chickens.

*Hangs head in shame* Yes, every night. And he is still a little underweight for his frame...vet keeps telling me he could easily gain 10lbs to get to "normal" for his frame but a little underweight does keep the pressure off his hips.  You don't want to see our grocery bill.
