Dinner party ideas

H and I are having 4 friends over next week for dinner. Anyone have an easy meal idea to serve 6? I'm good at doing stir fry, pot pie, bbq, and other basic Pennsylvania stuff. Just looking for some ideas from people that are more experienced cooks than me - I think I want to branch out from my staples a bit.

Re: Dinner party ideas

  • I like making lasagna and serving it with salad and garlic bread, ice cream for dessert and shrimp cocktail if you want a starter.

Or doing coq au vin which sounds fancy but is basically chicken stew. It tastes even better made the day before. Some crusty bread, greens, wine and you're good to go.

I wouldn't try to stray too far from your comfort zone when you're having people over. :)

What about chicken piccatta? Basic concepts but yummy flavor (if you like capers, that is).

  • This is my go-to recipe for an easy dinner idea. I don't bother to take the skin off the tomatoes or buying boneless chicken thighs. I've also substituted cut up pieces of boneless, skinless chicken breast (I just throw it in a baking dish with the vegetables without browning it first). With a nice salad, some bread, and a vegetable side (I like green beans), it makes a very easy, filling meal.

  • When I have large get togethers in the winter I like to do spaghetti with tomato and meat sauce, Cesar or garden salad, garlic creseant rolls or bread, and something chocolatey for dessert like brownies.
It's cheap, easy, and tastes yummy.

Spinach and beet salad with Chevre crumbles and balsamic vinaigrette.

Chicken Cutlets Milanese with Rice Pilaf and green beans for color.

Hammer each boneless skinless chicken breast with the flat side of a mallet until 1/2 inch thick. Dip in beaten egg and Italian style bread crumbs, let dry about 15 minutes.

Drizzle cookie sheet with olive oil and bake at 375 degrees for 25 minutes.

Squeeze lemon juice over chicken breasts. Make it pretty - garnish with thinly sliced lemon and snips of scallions and freshly grated parmesan.

Traditionally the cutlets are fried, but baked is easier and no greasy mess in the kitchen.
