I need people to yell at me daily...

I just bought a new spin bike for the house and my FI is putting it together for me today. Can someone yell at me daily to actually ride it and not just have it as a prop in the house?  I need some serious motivation, because I'm the idiot that bought my dress in what was my size before my three car accidents and two surgeries and 40lbs later.  Uggh what's wrong with me...

  • USE THAT SPIN BIKE! DO IT! YOU'RE AMAZING AND YOU CAN DO IT!

  • I'm gonna be that person to say "Yes, ride that bike!" but also that riding that bike alone is probably not going to make 40 pounds happen - weight loss is a lot easier and quicker if you change your diet as well, because at the end of the day dropping pounds is just calories in vs calories out (barring metabolic disorders etc.) and even an hour of moderate cardio a day doesn't burn enough to make a substantial deficit without some other changes.

Sorry for the lecture, I am way on a roll this week on these boards about it.

  • Can you put it somewhere SUPER inconvenient and awkward in your house, so it's always in your way? Then it can serve as its own reminder.

No it's ok!  Please lecture away.  I am definitely making changes in my diet too.  My biggest problem is that after three car accidents and two surgeries I became sedentary and I used to work out at least five days a week, prior to all of that.  I've been doing some work out DVD's at home t25 and yoga and want to add in more cardio and some resistance training too.  I just need some serious motivation to get back on the horse so to speak.

  • This topic encouraged me to do my pilates today. Thanks for that...getting out if bed now!
  • Remember to do some weight training too!  Building muscle is important and it will burn more calories.  A lot of people think that cardio is all that's needed to lose weight, but in reality weight loss is more like 70% diet and 30% exercise, and weight training is an important component of the exercise portion.  You can do it!

Ditto this! Weight training is so often overlooked, especially by women, when it comes to weight loss.

As for motivation maybe you could come up with a reward system for yourself? X number of days of work-outs and you get something small (not food related!) as a reward.

I've been doing the Jillian Michaels Yoga inferno and Kickboxing and it kills me. I'm sore everyday!

  • I have an indoor trainer, so I can ride my road bike at home. My motivation is that while I cycle, I watch TV shows/movies on my laptop that H doesn't like. I would invest in a pair of wireless headphones- they make it so much easier.

Some people also like to watch cycling training videos while they ride indoors. The videos called Sufferfest are popular ones. I tried it one day, and it actually was kind of helpful, but I liked watching movies and shows more than I cared about training harder.
  • OK.....I am about to either embarrass myself beyond belief, or "humor" you into some motivation. Name your bike. Give it the name of someone so that whenever you think, "I cannot wait to get home and ride (insert name here), you literally HAVE to get on that bike. ***Sheepishly walks away...***

  • I love watching non-DH approved movies or reading while exercising.  I have a Total Gym at home and that I love reading while doing squats.  Anytime I pick up a book, DH always seems to want to talk right then, but he will leave me alone while I exercise, so it makes a perfect time to read.  So, if you like to read, make that your reading time.  And if it's a really good book, you will be anxious to get home and get on the bike so you can finish the book.

God I hope not, the reviews all said 30 mins.  My FI gets home before me and I asked him to put it together for me, so it would be done by the time I get home.  I was hoping to get on it tonight after all this great encouragement!

Put it in front of the TV.  More entertaining to be on there with something in the background.  And chart yourself.  Make a visual of when you get on it.  You'll feel better looking at all the checked boxes

ETA - Spelling.  I can't spell.  I tried 3 times and finally hit autocorrect
