Ring Bearer question

Is any one having a young ring bearer? If so, what will you be having him hold walking down the isle?

Re: Ring Bearer question

  • Our ring bearer was 6. He had a pillow with our rings tied to it. I mean, what the hell was he going to do to them in the 25 feet between his starting point and the altar with a hundred people watching him?

  • I know a pillow is the standard but it looks like little plates and boxes can be used too? I just have no idea.
  • I would suggest that you don't tie the rings onto the pillow, or put them in the Pinterest inspired box or shell or what have you until the kid is ready to walk down the aisle.  And whatever you put them in make sure they are secure.  If you have a really young RB then he may just run down the aisle while flailing the pillow (or whatever) around.  Last thing you want is someone to get nailed in the eye by your ring.

But as long as the rings are secure and you aren't entrusting a 5 year old to take care of the rings for 8 hours then there is nothing to worry about.

  • I will have twins (2.5 years) as my ring bearers, but their older sister (9 years) as a junior bridesmaid to help them down the aisle. One will have a wooden box with the rings, and the other will have a sign to hold. I'm not worried about them running down the aisle - little glitches like that are cute and make for fun stories later!
  • I had a ring bearer, he was 7 and he did not have the actual rings.  Our Best Man had them.

Most places will strongly suggest against having kids hold your rings, and will definitely urge you not to tie the actual rings to anything as it can take forever for nervous people with fumbling hands to untie them.

Ok...so what did he have? Was he just holding a pillow or a box? Or did he just simply walk down the isle?

Oh sorry!  He had a pillow with fake rings tied to it.

ETA:  We got hem at Charming Charlie's ;-)

  • Our ring bearer is my adorable little nephew who just started walking (he's almost 1) and will be escorted down the aisle by his mom, my FI's sister, who is also one of my bridesmaids. I have one extra person on my side of the wedding party so this kind of worked out perfectly.

  • That's another thought, maybe I can have him walk down with grandma, who is also Mother of the Groom
  • My ring bearer will be just barely 2 at my wedding, and his mom is the MOH, so unless he is unusually cooperative for a two year old, I think I will have them walk together holding hands, so cute. I'll probably have a sign or something for him to hold, or fake rings on a pillow, definitely not the real rings.

A kid younger than 2 probably shouldn't be a ring bearer, let alone carry anything. He's just too young and too small. Plus, signs at weddings just don't work.

Right now he is 9 months and already almost walking, so we'll see closer to. I'll find some way for him to be in it, he's my life-long best friend's son, and pretty much a nephew to me. Even if she carries him down the aisle and holds him through the whole ceremony or hands him off to dad.

No one is suggesting he shouldn't be there. What is being suggested is that you consider what you are expecting of a kid younger than 2 years old and whether it is physically practical as opposed to "cute" and "adorable." He's not going to understand what you are asking him to do or remember it later.
  • In a wedding where I was MOH, the ring bearer was 7, and perfectly in charge of himself, and his 5 year old cousin, the flower girl.

She was shy and fluttery and we wondered if she would back out at the last second, which would have been ok.

But the 2 of them charged down the aisle hand in hand, and cuteness reigned.

  • We didn't have kids in our WP, but my sister's ring bearer and flower girl were both two.  My brother carried the FG down the aisle, and the RB walked down with his mom (a bridesmaid), then hiked himself up the stairs and handed the ring box (with the rings inside) to the groom.

  • Originally, we intended him to carry a toy of his liking that would be his gift. I got him a small box of Star Wars Legos, and then realized that would probably make too much noise. So I went with a stuffed dog. At the rehearsal, however, he freaked out and would only walk if he could carry his mom's cell phone and make a video while walking. OK by us. Day of, he didn't want to carry anything at all and just walked.

What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14
