Hi, I'm hoping someone can give me insight on this...I'm getting married at a private country club that has a requirement for dress, ie men must wear collared shirts and jackets are preferred. I do not want to offend anyone because Im aware you can't tell people what to wear. I would hope men would show up in a collared shirt...thoughts please?? Word of mouth may be ok but again I don't want people to feel like I'm dictating their attire to my wedding. Thanks!!!!

    In this case you can mention on a FAQ card and/or website the venues dress requirements

    I say both because you would be surprised how many people do not look at websites.






    What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

    Thanks!!! I was thinking of including a card with the invites that has the hotel info and on the back, nicely worded info about the venue if that won't be an etiquette breach.

    On your info card, say, "The Blank CC requires all gentlement to wear jackets."

    If it is required by the venue, it is not against etiquette to mention a dress code.  It's one of the only times it's appropriate to mention attire (along with Black Tie).

    This may not be the case for you, but worth checking: some venues drop the dress code for private events. My venue also has a jackets/collared shirt and no jeans dress code, but made it very clear when we met that they do not enforce it for private events (in fact, its in the contract). Granted, I think most men and women will show up dressed to that level anyways since it's a country club, but it got me out of having to add an extra insert to the card.

    Yup, it's fine to put it in an insert because its required by the venue (not just your preference).

    I would ask the venue coordinator if they have wording they normally use. You could then say on your invite insert: "The venue does have attire requirements. From their website: 'men must wear collared shirts.......'"

    Yep, I am one of those who never looks at wedding websites.  I have all the info on the invitation and googled to find out where you are registered so I figure I am good to go.
