Getting Ready on Wedding Day: WWYD?

So I'd planned on having my hair and makeup professionally done on the wedding day, and told my girls they could come with me and use the same people that I am if they want to, but they don't HAVE to get their hair or makeup done. Most of them said they wanted to, so okay cool. Well I haven't nailed down a hair place yet that accommodate all of us, but I'd asked a friend of mine to do my makeup since she and her sister own a makeup store. She agreed that she and her sister could work with us that day. Soooo here's the problem. In order for all of us to get our makeup done in time to be at the wedding venue on time for pictures and all that (and it costs extra if they travel to us), she would need to get started on our makeup by 10am, which leaves ZERO time for us to get our hair done. So I don't know what to do. I'm not going to tell the girls, "Well there's only so much time and I'm getting my makeup done so you can't now" but since I'm friends with the girl doing the makeup I don't want to bail on her. So I don't know what to do. Any ideas?

  • Can you bring in someone to do hair versus have to go to a salon? So one person can be getting done hair and one person can be getting their makeup done.

I actually hadn't considered this, but that may be an option. I just have to see who's budget could accommodate that. It may even work where both the makeup people and hair people could both come to the venue so that we don't have to waste travel time.

  • Can you split the girls up? Half can go to the salon at like 9am or so, and get their hair done, then come to the make-up place. The other half will do the opposite. I know it's nice to have everyone all together in the same place but sometimes the logistics don't work out.

That's a good idea too! I'll see what I can work out

  • My SIL had 9 girls.  The makeup people came to her house.  Hair people came to the house for just her, her sister and MIL.  All the other girls went to the salon (about 5 mins away).   The makeup was done around hair appointments. Some girls had hair done before makeup. Others had makeup done before hair.   It all seemed to work out.

My wedding some of the girls had makeup done at the same place at the hair salon.  Some went to makeup first, others hair first, then the switched.

I had hair done, then my SILs did my makeup (they are pros).

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

This is what we did. We had 5 for hair and makeup and 1 mom with just makeup and the other with just hair. 1 hair stylist and 1 makeup artist came to our hotel (I purposely booked a suite for the night before so we had plenty of room) and we took turns. A few people got there at one time, a few more an hour later, and the moms last. I don't remember what time we started.

  • My hair person came to my hotel at 7 am. God bless that man. Of course, he's been doing my hair since I was 5, so it was kind of a special situation.

  • Have you asked your MUA friend if she knows anyone who could do hair for your group?  That was how I found the MUA that I used, I asked my hair stylist about MU.
  • I would ask if both of them could come to your venue (or wherever you are getting ready) and do it there. That way, while one person is getting hair done, the other is getting makeup. And they just cycle through until everyone is done.

  • I had both MUA and Hairstylist come to my venue.  It worked out really well for us.

I agree, this would be the easiest for everyone.

If you're looking for people to do hair, try www.thumbtack.com. That's where I found my personal trainer, and she says it's great for independent hair and makeup people too.

  • I mean, my solution isn't any help, but my brother is doing my, my mom's, and my sisters' hair, and probably my BFF and maybe FMIL (although she keeps hers really short so maybe not). So I guess technically I'll be "bringing someone in".

You're in Bama though, right? Are you getting married here or somewhere else? He graduates in February, so he'll be licensed by your wedding. I can ask him about it if you want?

  • Sorry I disappeared for a few days! Work was crazy. I tried thumbtack and didn't find anyone :( But normally that site is great, it's how I found my photographer and my dj for the wedding.

We are getting married here, but I got it worked out! Thanks anyway!

We are going to split up and some of us go do hair while the others do makeup, and then swap out and all meet up at the venue to get our dresses on. Thank y'all for the help and suggestions!
