I am related to John Billington from the Mayflower. He was the first person to receive the death penalty in what is now the U.S. I guess my ancestors were the troublemakers of the colony.

On my dad's side, the King of Spain granted land to my ancestor in what is now in the Valley in Texas ( Santa Maria, Mercedes, La Feria area).
I am obsessed with the story of John Billington! When I worked in publishing one of our authors wrote the most wonderful imagined historical YA novel from the perspective of Billington's son, who apparently was kidnapped by a Native American tribe on Cape Cod (the Puritans totally deserved it; they stole this tribe's corn right off the be bat when they landed, but poor Billington Jr. didn't deserve it--as a nonmember of the church he was classified as a "Stranger" and had no say in the community's decisions). Not much is actually known about the circumstances of the kidnapping (except that the community got him back) but the novel imagined what might have happened. It was so awesome. ------------paragraphs?------------ As for me, I doubt I'm related to anyone of note. Apparently some of my people came over pre-Revolution, but most after that were Midwestern farmers or lumberjacks.

  • Ok so I'm still reading but i'd like to add.

I know nothing about my dad's side other than we are a mix of European.  At some point we're supposed to be related to Stonewall Jackson, and Robert E Lee.  I don't know the details though.

My grandmother on my mom's side has done some research but she had to stop a while back.  From what I can tell her side of the family is related to the Rockefellers.  Apparently one of the Rockefeller girls married a farm hand which lead to her being disowned.

We know very little about my Bio Grandfather on my moms side, other than he was an ass.  We do know that his mom (my great grandmother) brought him over from Ireland.  Apprently there's a castle with my mother's maiden name on it in Ireland.

  • I am Native American (Choctaw and Cherokee), Irish, German, and Polish

As for one interesting tidbit: my Great Great Grandfather fought for the Union in the Civil War (Cavalry and then later Infantry), my Great Grandfather was in WWI in the Infantry, my Grandfather was in WWII in the Navy, my father was in the Vientnam War in the Navy, and my brother was/is in the current war in the middle east in Navy Intelligence.

So apparently it's in the blood.
