Tea Drinkers Anon.

Any other chain-drinkers out there? Hi, my name is Lavieenrose and I'm on my fourth 16 oz mug since 12:30.

What are your favorite flavors?

Do you take it with milk, honey, sugar, or straight?

Do you prefer it hot or cold?

Loose leaf with strainer or pre-packaged bag?

Aaaaand if I hosted a wedding dress party masquerading as a tea party with fine china and cucumber sandwiches, would you join me?

Then happy I, that love and am beloved

Re: Tea Drinkers Anon.

  • Hi my name is Novella and I spend probably a third of the grocery budget on tea.

I think you and I may have talked about this before? But I can't start my day without a cup of Early Grey tea. Cannot. I just like it plain, but sometimes if I want to be fancy I'll add a little splash of heavy cream and vanilla syrup.

Usually when I get home I have at least 1 cup of chamomile. When I'm not feeling well, I put honey in it.

I also like unsweetened organic iced tea with either some agave nectar or elderberry syrup.

Those are my most typical ones but I also like pumpkin spice, "sleepy time tea," I love green tea, I love English Black Breakfast tea (pretty much any black or green tea) and a bunch of other random ones.

  • Hi, my name is Lowell14 and I am a chain tea drinker. I have at least 6 cups of tea at work, then one each night at 8pm.

I used to drink it with milk and sugar but 7 years ago, my flatmate and I had no sugar in thr house, so I switched to milk only.

I only drink hot black tea and am brand particular (Typhoo and Nambarrie if first choice isn't stocked in the store)

I would totally join a wedding or masquerade tea party. I took my mum and MOH to afternoon at a 5 star hotel 2 days before the wedding.

  • I love tea. I drink all kinds. I mostly use milk and sugar, but sometimes honey. I love Earl Grey, English Breakfast, Ginger Peach. I like to drink Chamomile at night before bed.

It's shameful, but I'm totally hooked on these Chai Tea Latte K-cups I found at BB&B.

I use both loose tea and tea bags.

Please sign me up for the party.
  • I drink tea in the afternoon because my coffee intake is through the roof otherwise. I don't bother with too many black teas for that reason - if I needed that much caffeine I'd just drink coffee, which is my one true love.

I like Earl Grey (the only black tea I bother with) but I rarely drink it at work because I prefer it with some lemon and that's too much trouble if I'm not at home. I drink a lot of oolong (usually vanilla orchid oolong from David's Tea), or sometimes rooibos. Once in a while I drink yerba mate if I do need a little more of a caffeine boost and don't feel like coffee. Always clear though for all of them, no milk or sweetener.

I don't like iced tea at all, and I drink loose-leaf.

My only tea-party attendance has been high tea at the Ritz in London with my mother, and while she loved it, the champagne was the only real draw for me, haha. I'm more of a late-night cocktails than a late-afternoon tea kinda girl - sequins, not tulle, lol.

  • I have attended many formal afternoon teas, and had one given in my honor.  When I went to a private school in Memphis, we were required to attend a spring tea every year, and to observe proper etiquette.

When I took my late mother to England, we had tea in the Georgian Tearoom at Harrod's.  Lovely!

I vary my selection of tea.  I usually drink Earl Grey, sometimes with lemon, but I also enjoy English Breakfast Tea.  When I have a headache, I drink Plantation Mint tea.  To indulge myself, there is always Constant Comment.  I have a tea box in which that I keep a variety of tea bags for guests to choose.

  • I am currently working on upping my tea addiction.

My obsession and primary weakness has long been Chai Tea Lattes.  About 5 years ago I was a Starbucks junkie and got Venti size Chai Latte's everyday... sometimes 2-3 times a day. I was single with a good job and disposable income to feed my addiction. (Of course, in hindsight, I wish I had been shoving that roughly $200/month into savings instead of my Starbucks cup, but too late to change that.) Then when I went to buy a new car, I realized that the monthly loan payment difference between my previous cheap used car and the brand spanking new car I REALLY wanted was about the same as my monthly Starbucks spending.  So, I quit Starbucks. I started making it at home using chai latte mixes.

But, over the past year I've been steadily gaining weight.  I think some of it is due to mid-30's metabolism changes and some of it is due to current BC.  So, I've recently been trying to eat healthier.  And if I'm trying to stick to 1200 calories a day, it sucks to already use 1/3 of it on my morning chai latte. So, I've started switching to brewed tea most days (no sugar, no milk) and only indulge in my chai latte 1-2 days a week. I've been trying various teas lately.  I've always loved chamomile teas and often drink "Sleepy Time" tea in the evenings, but want something with a bit more kick in the morning. Yesterday it was a raspberry tea and today it was "American Breakfast Tea" (added caffeine). I also have a Vanilla Caramel that is pretty yummy.

  • Sorry for the Knotus Interruptus. When I was given the option to drop everything and snowshoe, I jumped on it. And then I came home, still thinking about tea and decided to do a survey of my cupboard. The results were shocking:

26 friggin' kinds of tea!!!!!!!!!! (Some loose leaf, some bagged, but all different flavors. And I'm missing a favorite)
    4 kinds of chai
    1 container of hot chocolate
    0 coffee.

I should also note that DH does not really drink any of the above, so this whole addiction is mine.

But anyway...I'm glad I have some takers for my wedding dress-tea party. :)

Novella, sorry if we had this conversation already! I don't remember it.

Lowell, you probably win the prize for most glasses consumed per day.

Climbingwife, have you ever been to the Village Tea Room in NP? I was there once a long time ago and it was only okay. But I had a friend go there recently for a baby shower and she said it was really good.

Amelisha, that tea party at the Ritz must have been so swanky! Seriously jealous. (I would have gone for the bubbly, too.)

CMGragain, I'd love to learn tea-time etiquette for future tea parties. Also, woah to the Harrod's tea time.

PrincessLeia, good luck with the weight loss! I'm in the same boat. When I'm really feeling gross and bloated, I go for green tea. Not like it's really going to do anything, but somehow it makes me feel better.

Then happy I, that love and am beloved

Any other chain-drinkers out there? Hi, my name is Lavieenrose and I'm on my fourth 16 oz mug since 12:30. LOL!

What are your favorite flavors?  I'm half British. Black or Earl Grey. Anything else my mother would disown me.

Do you take it with milk, honey, sugar, or straight? Milk and sugar!

Do you prefer it hot or cold? HOT. Cold, see above about being British.

Loose leaf with strainer or pre-packaged bag? Usually pre-packaged but I do own a tea-ball for when I'm feeling fancy.

Aaaaand if I hosted a wedding dress party masquerading as a tea party with fine china and cucumber sandwiches, would you join me? Hell YES.

ETA: On my trip to London a couple years ago, we had tea at the Orangerie by Kensington Palace. Amazing.

  • I have not been there. I will have to check it out.
  • EARL GREY 4LYFE.

Any other black tea is fine too. But NO sweetener, lemon, or extra flavor whatsoever. And no cream/milk. GROSS.
  • Oh, and sweet tea is a fucking abomination. Also, iced tea in general.

You are obviously not from the south!

  • Tea from a teapot with a cup and saucer!

I am actually not a fan of Earl Grey- it tastes perfume-y to me (a bit like how lavender or rose water has become popular in baking, it just smells like your Gran's unmentionable's drawer). I love Darjeeling or breakfast tea.

And if any of you are coming to London, nothing beats Champagne cream tea at the Savoy!
  • Oh, and sweet tea is a fucking abomination. Also, iced tea in general.
    WUT. We are breaking up.
  • The Spice and Tea Exchange is life changing. Their mint-chilla chai-nilla loose leaf pu-erh tea is everything. I go through a 1 oz bag of it every two days or so.

And I would most definitely attend a tea party wedding. Cucumber sandwiches are vastly underrated.

No, I'm not. But I doubt that would make a difference. I don't like anything sweet; I don't think the geographic location of my birthplace would change that.
  • Oh, also: Count me in for the tea and cucumber sanwhiches party.

Hi, I'm fluttering and I like tea more than any other kind of beverage, including alcohol.

I recently got into loose-leaf tea and now have a growing collection, which I drink out of an insulated Teavana mug that keeps my tea warm all freaking day long. The downside is if I make it in the morning it's usually too hot to drink until lunch.

Right now I'm steeping the Valentine's tea from Adagio, which is a dark chocolate and strawberry tea. I made some yesterday but took it out too early so it smelled nice but tasted bland.

I prefer black or herbal teas (or a combination) and rooibos is a contender for third most loved. Green tea I'll drink if it's iced and plain. I never put sugar in my tea, but I might drink a black tea with a wee bit of milk.

At home FI and I drink a lot of bagged tea as well. Right now we're loving on Sleepytime green tea with lemon. I think it has an aftertaste of Fruit Loops.

I would like to give tea as part of our wedding favors.

I dislike sweet tea as well and prefer my iced tea like my men: cold, dark, and bitter.

Don't cry. You do still like tea. I think I can move past this.
  • Hi I'm lmcooper86 and I am trying to figure out how to mainline my tea so I can stop burning my tongue.

I cannot start being productive until I have had tea. I hate taking the subway because it's too hot and I don't have enough hands to bring my tea with me. I'm working on my large Tim Horton's tea right now, thank goodness.

I usually drink black tea but do like some green and herbal teas as well, some bagged and some loose leaf, depending on where it's from. I have 6 kinds of tea in my desk at the moment, and at least a dozen at home.

I usually take my tea with a bit of sugar or lemon. I'll only use milk if it's a black tea that's sort of gross but I'm desperate for a cup. I like hot and cold tea, depending on the situation.

And I would like to come to this tea party please. I will bring my owl teapot if required.

  • Oh, also I'll take milk with chai or other spiced teas. Particularly love it with the kind of tea you get at Indian restaurants.

  • Hi I'm dolewhipper and I'm a (more recent) tea addict. I am currently steeping Teavana's Samurai Chai Mate.

Any other chain-drinkers out there? Hi, my name is Lavieenrose and I'm on my fourth 16 oz mug since 12:30. I am on my second 16oz cup and its 10am.

What are your favorite flavors? Spicy, bold teas, unless I'm tired and want to do a chamomile

Do you take it with milk, honey, sugar, or straight? Straight. I don't understand the point of buying high quality tea when you mess with the taste and flavor profiles when you add shit.

Do you prefer it hot or cold? Hot. The only cold I like (so far) is green tea.

Loose leaf with strainer or pre-packaged bag? I used to do tea bag (and still do if I am looking for something easy or theres a good sale at Publix), but I'm starting to go more towards loose leaf. I got a tumbler and strainer from my bridal shower so that will help fuel my love of loose leaf.

Aaaaand if I hosted a wedding dress party masquerading as a tea party with fine china and cucumber sandwiches, would you join me? UM, YES

  • Hi, my name is levioosa and I am a tea addict.  I drink about nine cups a day.  My favorite tea is Harney and Sons' Tower of London.  It's a black tea with notes of stone fruit, bergamot, and honey.  My second favorite tea is their Caribe, which is a black and green blend with tropical flavors.  They offer a lot of their teas in silk sachet bags which are a lot higher quality than your average paper bag, but almost all of them come with loose leaf options.  I usually make loose leaf tea now, which works out since I like stronger tea in general. I prefer hot teas, but I do love me an iced passion fruit tea.  I almost never add milk anymore, although depending on how dark the tea is I might add a little honey.

Chai, herbal, green, black--it's all amazing.  Harney and Sons is hands down my favorite brand.  They're based out of NY and they have a store in NYC (Soho).  It's a lot of fun to visit it if you're in the area.

  • I have 37 flavors of tea in my cabinet right now. I fucking love tea.

How I drink it depends on the flavor. Fruit teas I take plain. My recent favorite has been a caramel chai flavor, blended with almond milk and ice.

My favorite tea ever is white tea with jasmine, but it's very expensive. So my go-to is Earl Grey or Lady Grey (the added citrus is bomb).

And yes, I would be down with that party. Hell, my wedding centerpieces were antique books and antique teacups from my personal collection!

  • Question, kind of random on the tea subject.

Does your tea have to be made a certain way?  My mom drinks 6+ cups a day, every day. I grew up on it. I can't make a cuppa to match my mom's no matter how hard I try. Ergo, I don't drink much tea on my own, because it's just not as good, but when I'm at my parents' I drink it like there's no tomorrow.

I think it's the water. Our home is in the country with well water, and I guess my filtered city water ruins it. Plus my mom, after nearly 60 years of tea making experience, has it down to a science. I might put in too much milk, or not enough sugar, or not steep it just so, whatever.

    P.S. @blabla89 I love that gif.

Mmmmm.... I'm going to have to search for that one now. I need to find more space to store my growing tea collection.
