Girl Scout Cookies

Got my Thin Mints yesterday, will probably eat a sleeve at lunch, and I'm really excited.

Does anyone else get this excited over Girl Scout Cookies? What's your favorite?

Re: Girl Scout Cookies

  • We don't get the interesting ones up here. Just boxes with one row of chocolate sandwich cookie and one row of vanilla sandwich cookie (in the spring) and chocolate mint (in the fall.)

    Laaaaaame.

I'll scarf down some Caramel deLites and Tagalongs until the cows come home. Or until I happen to glance at the nutritional information on the box.

Now then, as if we needed more incentive to eat cookies, here's a list of Girl Scout cookies with appropriate wine pairings.

  • Oh and also Trefoils' buttery deliciousness. Classic.

  • The differences of names by region is very interesting!

I ordered 4 boxes from a guy in my office and I'm still waiting for them to be delivered...

ETA: I ordered a box each of thin mints, tagalongs, samoas and one other that I don't remember. I'll allow myself to eat one sleeve of thin mints and put the rest in the freezer for after the wedding. Probably going to stash some in my carry-on bag for the long day of travel on our honeymoon.

  • I shouldn't have come in here. I'm on a diet right now and I can't have any GS cookies. Boo!
  • BOO our guy in the office whose daughter sold them got fired a couple months ago.

I mean... I'm totally sad for him.

I like them all except Thin Mints. Ya'll can keep that filth away from me.

  • We have girl guides in canada, with very limited selection. I only like the plain vanilla ones. Like Vanilla oreos, except they are better.

Girl scout ones look soo good. I always see them on TV shows haha.

  • I just ordered 9 boxes and will likely buy more any time they have a troop camped out in front of the supermarket. I have no shame.

  • I refuse to use these new-fangled names for Shortbread cookies and Peanut Butter Patties. I will call them Tagalongs when pigs fly you sugar-peddling sprites!

Also I haven't had any in years because I don't know a single person in my area that has a child selling cookies. And we don't have malls with tables to guilt you outside of JCPenny.

  • I have started buying them for the troops because if I buy them for myself I will park my butt in fromt of the tv and eat thin mints a sleeve at a time!

  • This is identical to my reaction when I see them outside of the store. I don't need them, but those little girls are some cute and convincing.

  • I cannot wait for girl scout cookies. A daughter of my coworker sells them and my coworker had me help her decide which ones to pick to sell since I will probably be buying so many of them. Not a bad thing, I guess! Although I suppose I do need to fit into a wedding dress soon. I love Samoas, Thanks-A-Lots, and the plain shortbread ones. Oh, and the lemon ones. Probably all of them except Thin Mints. Can't wait!

Download the Girl Scout Cookie app on your phone! You can stalk every location in your area that will have stands set up to sell cookies.
  • Haha. I came into work and a coworker had set an order form on the breakroom table for his daughter. Bastard. $4 a friken box!

@emmaaa I think the names have recently changed and people haven't switched to the new ones. I refused to call my beloved caramel delites the new Samoa name.

I actually have a box of Caramel delites and thin mints hidden in the house from last year so H wouldn't eat them all in one day.

Anyone else notice the thin mints now have a "vegan" banner. Have they always been vegan or did they change the recipe?

That's weird, they're still Caramel Delights here.

I have family in Massachusettes and they have been Samoas there for a while for them

I have no idea, they still taste delicious.

ETA:  I limited myself to 1/2 a sleeve today.

  • I can eat an entire box of Samoas in one sitting.

I am not proud to admit that :(

  • Oh how I miss GS cookies! There's nothing like GS cookies where I live :(

  • Thin Mints are in the freezer!! So yummy.

We caved and got peanut butter patties, caramel delights (or samoas), and thin mints.

I mean... you just have to support the girl scouts. It would be really mean NOT to buy cookies... That's what I tell myself.

WTF is up with cookie prices now though.  Girl Scouts are like little extortionists.

They've gotta make money to fund the program somehow, haha, and Girl Scouts really is great. I am always on board with teaching little girls to play with fire and not get lost in the woods - not even because those are even necessary skills for a lot of kids but because kids that can do things like that are confident and feel accomplished and are kids who have great attitudes, do better in school, have better social skills, all of that. A good Scouting program (one with active and engaged leaders who don't just do basketweaving and camp songs - leaders who let the girls test their limits and try new stuff) is such a great ability-builder for girls. I'll happily buy some overpriced cookies to help support a program that lets girls learn that they can do anything and that what they can do is so much more important than what they look like or whatever.

Oh, I'm not knocking the program.  I was a GS for almost ten years (I went from Daisy to Cadette).  But when I was selling the cookies they were $2.00 and came with twice the amount.  I know inflation is a factor, but I'm pissed about getting half the amount of cookies.  Poor girls are trying to sell their little hearts out and I don't want to buy because of how few cookies there are.  Damnit, I want ALL THE TAGALONGS WITHOUT BANKRUPTING MYSELF.
