God I am so hungry this diet is the worst.
Your whole post is my life.

WTF is up with cookie prices now though.  Girl Scouts are like little extortionists.
Can I just gripe for a minute? My coworker brought in her kid's Girl Scout cookie order form and it said "We're selling cookies to raise money for ________________." And in the blank it said A TRIP TO EUROPE. Back in my day we were lucky if we raised enough money to go to camp in the next town over.

Da Fuq? The Girl Scouts are going to Europe? My troop used the money to get a bus to take us on nature hikes or to buy craft supplies. Six girls in Central PA can't raise Europe kind of money.

  • My absolute favorites are the Lemonades - give me all the lemon-y desserts!

I also love the shortbread, peanut butter patties, caramel delites, and the thanks-a-lots.  I don't typically buy any though, they are frickin' pricey and I don't really NEED them.  But I have gotten suckered by girls outside the grocery store before.

  • I'm glad so many of you like them like I do!

Only 1 more sleeve of Thin Mints left in the box.  Yes, I have eaten a whole sleeve of them today.  Dress fitting what?!

I got to go to Sea World San Diego (I live about an hour and a half away).  We slept in the shark area.  It. was. awesome.

  • Caramel DeLites (known to some as Samoas?)

Also, while I'm normally a GS cookie traditionalist, those lemon iced shortbread ones are pretty amazing.

  • I didn't eat a single Girl Scout cookie last year. Not one. Gotta make up for that poor, poor choice this year since I'm eating for two. Bring them ALL on!!

  • I want some tagalongs so bad. I was just eating peanut butter straight from the jar.

  • I just ordered Thin Mints for myself, Samoas for FI and 2 boxes of Tagalongs so we don't fight over them like last year. One of our friends has two daughters selling cookies so I figure that's two boxes to each kid. I'm really wondering if I should just get a fifth box and spend the whole $20. Decisions, decisions...

  • FH is very obsessed with the thin mint cookies. I remember when we started dating and I gave him some cookies for the first time, he was like GIVE ME MORE. He will go out and guy boxes after boxes. Dropping to a hundred to two hundred on thin mint and the Caramel Delights.

Live fast, die young. Bad Girls do it well. Suki Zuki.

  • So, I actually don't like girl scout cookies. Like, at all. None of them. I don't understand the metaphorical pants-izzing about them by literally every person i know. They're just regular old mass-produced cookies...

  • I looooove Samoas (they were carmel delights when I was a GS, so I still call them that!)  I can never resist a GS selling them. I bought two boxes on Sunday. I am actually impressed there are still some left.

I refuse to use these new-fangled names for Shortbread cookies and Peanut Butter Patties. I will call them Tagalongs when pigs fly you sugar-peddling sprites!

Also I haven't had any in years because I don't know a single person in my area that has a child selling cookies. And we don't have malls with tables to guilt you outside of JCPenny.

The name changes must be regional? Because I'm 38, and I sold Tagalongs (my absolute favorite), Dosido's and Samoa's 30+ years ago. I've only recently seen them called Peanut Butter Patties, PB Sandwiches and Caramel Delites. ETA: just saw @inkdancer's explanation....makes sense.
  • I only like the Thanks-a-lots (at one point they were All-Abouts; they're shortbread with chocolate-dipped bottoms).

I'm kind of in with @ashley8918 - they're mass produced cookies. I rarely buy them if I don't know a GS. I do think the Girl Scouts is a good program, and I usually do buy at least one box each year, but I don't like them enough to go out of my way hunting them, so being out of the afterschool, I probably won't have any this year.

See I don't normally buy cookies at all. So GS cookies are a big treat when I get them, and that's only when it's from someone (whose parent) I know.

Fun fact: the names "Samoa" vs "Caramel DeLite" and "Tagalong" vs "Peanut Butter Patty" are not new or old universally.

GS uses multiple bakeries to do their cookies. Due to copyright issues, some of the bakeries have to use different names for the same cookie. Sometimes the distribution regions change. Thus why here in NC we get Peanut Butter Patties when I grew up calling them Tagalongs, and why @paperpusher doesn't want to call them Samoas when that's what I grew up calling them.
@Inkdancer Huh, that's interesting! I didn't know that. I think people will always call them what they have known them as. I will always call them what they were over 15 years ago when I was a GS selling them.

We used to sell them to go to camp or on trips. One year we went to Savannah (birth place of GS), another year we went to NYC (National headquarters for GS), and a few other places.

So, I am a total lurker, but had to come out of hiding for this thread, I am a GS Cookie addict!   I live near Boston and grew up with the 'creative names' such as Tagalongs, however now that my nieces are GS age, they are now selling the other named cookies in my area such as peanut butter patty, which made me do some research and come to the same answers as @inkdancer with the two bakeries.

Now this part is where I may have to go back into hiding since I clearly care too much about cookies...While visiting family in the western part of the state there was a cookie stand outside of a grocery store and I happened to notice they were selling the creative named cookies...So in the name on science I had to buy some even though I had plenty at home.

The cookies are very similar but are actually different from each baker.  I took pictures to document my findings!   (And now I will hide in shame for my obsessiveness!)

Trying to attach the pictures, hopefully it works.

    Wait wait wait.

Those Tagalongs are smaller than the PBPs.

Tagalongs have been cheating me out of peanut butter all these years????? Son of a bitch.

I know, but I have to say that the Tagalongs tasted better to me!   The peanut butter was creamier and sweeter.   I wish I had bought the other flavors to compare, I plan to this year, we are going to Western Mass in a couple of weeks so I will download the app and stock up!   All for science of course, not because it is a great excuse for more cookies!

  • Samoas are my weakness.  I bought 2 boxes tonight.  I have already consumed one of them.  I fear the second one is not far behind.

Luckily the Thin Mints are hiding in the freezer.  I'll probably forget about them.  Hehe.  :)

I'm In the same boat as you two. I don't like regular cookies, and I don't like GS cookies. I did used to be a GS though. I went through brownies all the way up to cadet/ senior. I guess after selling them for so many years I'm disenchanted with them
