Honeymoons

Have any of you ladies thought of honeymoon ideas yet?! If so, where are you interested in going?

I really would like to go to the Caribbean, but October is part of the rainy season for a lot of the places I've been looking at (such as Jamaica). I'm thinking all-inclusive, and I want to book the airfare and hotel all in one shot so I don't have to worry about finding airfare.

  • I've heard very good things about Antigua from friends. I'm definitely going to have to look into both places! :)

  • I know. I'm so excited.
  • I'm from Wisconsin so we are mini mooning first and then either the March after our wedding or a year after in March we will do our big honeymoon! We are also thinking Caribbean, I was told St. John is absolutely goreous!
  • Since we are doing a Destination Wedding, our honeymoon will continue in Vegas. We're going to be there for about 5 nights, 6 days...

  • Hey y'all! Just a heads up - Southwest Airlines just started flying to the Caribbean and they have a really great partnership program with Chase for their credit card. I used it this year and because I travel a lot for work anyways, I already hit companion pass. Basically every time I fly now I can take someone with me for free. We are planning on honeymooning somewhere that SWA flies because we only pay for one flight and they fly to Aruba, Cancun, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, and Cabo. The bonus for signing up for the credit card is 50k pts and you can use them the flight, which is what I'm doing. So basically free flight!

Also, because it's hurricane season, many of the hotels and flights will be less than summer. Perks of off-season travel.
  • I think we are going to do one of the SWA destinations but I am a little nervous because it is still hurricane season.
  • We are still very unsure of where we want to go, but I know we have both traveled a lot already so we want to go somewhere "different" we were actually thinking of going to a few different cities, Savannah being one of them.  We aren't too big on the beach so there's that...

We have not decided we are going to look in to an all-inclusive, but worried a little about the weather, being hurricane season and all..

Yay! When I tell people that my FI and I are touring the Alps for our honeymoon their jaws drop and they ask "oh! I want to go to Aruba/Hawaii/somewhere tropical for my honeymoon."

7 days just roasting on a beach isn't our cup of tea. If you're thinking of going to Savannah, try to see if you can visit Charleston SC as well. Lots of fun and good food!

  • I'm actually going to Charleston this Friday! I'm specifically going so I can try Husk. So excited!!!!
  • We are going to go to Brazil and Argentina.  Neither of us are beach people, we like adventures and neither of us have explored South America too much yet!

  • We're also having a semi-destination wedding and will just stay a couple days extra after the wedding shenanigans. We'll do a full fledged vacation for our first anniversary.
  • We were supposed to be going to Disney World after our wedding 10/17/15... but due to some complications in our work/school schedules... we now have to honeymoon in January 15' ( BEFORE) so that we don't lose our reservations/money.... we're excited to go, but are planning to cruise JAN/FEB/MAR of 2016 to celebrate our marriage... it's just too hard to anticipate our schedules for then just yet:)

  • @checca16 I'm glad you guys still get to go to Disney. The cruise during 2016 will be awesome because it'll give you something to look forward to even after the wedding! :)

  • We're delaying our honeymoon to December, and then going to Hawaii. Figured getting out of Michigan in December will be worth the time delay :D

  • I am planning a New Years Honeymoon in Sydney Australia... Still researching.
  • I think were going to go on a cruise to the Caribbean. It seems like the best thing to do for us because it's inexpensive and all inclusive, plus we get to visit other islands. I am a little nervous though because I've never been on a cruise ship before! If we didn't do this then defnitely a Sandals resort!
  • We have decided to do a 5 night all inclusive resort in the Dominican republic - Punta Cana! The hotel stay is just over $800 for both of us and included the foods, drinks, and non motoized activities. The flight should be around $1000...so add passports it should cost under 2K tops.

  • We're thinking either vegas or Disney World. I'm pushing for Disney tho cuz it'd be new for both of us (he's been to vegas 3 times).

Visit The Nest!    Visit The Knot!

  • We want to either road trip through Spain, safari in southern Africa, or cruise in the Galapagos. I can understand the lure of all-inclusive but at heart we want an excuse for an awesome adventure (we've already been around the world together).

I'm from IL, getting married in WI. We are taking 3 days in Lake Geneva and the rest at home in Woodstock. I'd love to do something more grand and out of the country but this is what we can afford. And, I know we'll still have a lot of fun.

Maybe we'll save for a 5 or 10 year anniversary trip.
  • We are thinking of San Diego, California. I've been on the East coast for my whole life, never been to the west! :)
  • We are going to Walt Disney World for me for a few days, then driving down to Miami for him for a few days.  He has never been to Florida, so I am excited to show him around!
  • We are debating about postponing the honeymoon and taking a mini-moon directly afterwards, but I really don't want to do this.. Other options are Hawaii, Aruba or Curacao, which are all nice in October and outside hurricane risk. Or we might just say f- it and go to Jamaica or Turks & Caicos where you can get an awesome deal in October, get trip insurance, and hope for the best ;) Even "rainy season" in Jamaica means only a little sprinkle every day, so there is nice weather 90% of the time anyway.
  •  we finally booked a cruise for the Monday after the wedding! we are going to the behamas..

  • I think we are pretty much decided on the Azores, leaving a couple days after the wedding.  I had always pictured a tropical beach honeymoon but FI wanted to go someplace like Iceland, so we compromised.  If anyone is looking for a unique destination, check them out... especially if you're near Boston - it's a quick non-stop flight :)

Speaking of Boston, I am SO tempted to just book the honeymoon now to get me out of my blizzard depression.  Too early??

  • My fiance has told me repeatedly that he's always wanted to go on a cruise for his honeymoon...I on the other hand did not like the idea of sharing my honeymoon with a boat full of people. Then I started looking at all-inclusive resorts and quickly realized we could do a cruise for a fraction of the cost. PLUS we get to see so many more places than if we were stuck at one resort all week. With that being said, we just booked our 7-night Southern Caribbean cruise and couldn't be more excited about it!

Not sure if y'all are big drinkers or not, but it's worth considering that a resort includes alcohol and a cruise doesn't! Not a big deal, but remember to have money saved up for that if you like to drink. It can feel like everything is free while you're on the boat, putting it on your room card (most won't even let you pay cash) and then you get handed a bill for all your drinks at the end. It all evens out, as long as you're prepared for it.. But there's nothing worse than getting slapped with an unexpected $700 bill at the end of your honeymoon ;)
