SNOW DAY!

2»

Re: SNOW DAY!

  • It's always amusing to live in a place where it's like "Snow? And? I'm heading to the store." And then you get on your bike and go to the store. But in places where it doesn't snow, it's like the end of the world. Grocery stores are out of food, people are stocking up on everything, there's not a generator to be FOUND anywhere. But it's just a different world where it doesn't snow as frequently as it does here.

It's still kind of funny though.

  • @doeydo as a midwesterner who is used to the snow, I agree and that is hilarious!

Seriously?  In order for stuff to actually close, at least in my town, it has to be complete white out conditions.  But at least you guys get a day off and it makes for good memes, I guess.  Sorry, big pic heavy but they're funny.

Yeah, we're quite ridiculous, lol. We're not even really fully equipped to deal with our hot-ass summers, either.

  • Funny aside: The police in Gainesville, GA have "arrested" "Elsa" (clicky)

Snowpocalyse 2015! My mother sent me this, Bama kids will know what's up. (Um can anyone see that?)

I'm glad everyone is being serious about it though. Last year my parents ended up sharing a hotel room with 3 semi-strangers (a classmate of mine and two people that were just super nice), and my boss ended up sleeping on the interstate. I cannot stress enough the importance of keeping good walking shoes, a winter coat, a few bottles of water and some Clif bars in your car. Or you know, just not being dumb and trying to drive on slick icy roads that haven't been treated without correct tires.

THAT IS THE BEST GRAPHIC EVER. JAMES SPANN IS MY FAVORITE WEATHERMAN. If you're seeing suspenders AND he's saying your area, you better be in a safe place cus whatever he's talking about, is coming straight for you.

My cousin got stranded outside bham and wound up getting a hotel with strangers too. ... She's an AU vet, although she'd graduated by then. (I seem to recall you're an AU vet, which is why I mention it? I could be wrong.)

Did your cousin share it with two teachers and her friends parents? Do they have Snowpacalypse reunions? You should ask her this because I'm having a feeling that we might be talking about the same person.

I just asked my mom and she said it was just one random person. Sad face! That would have been cool though.

The South is the best if you like bitching about the weather - snow makes everyone shut down, and we bitch about the cold, but we bitch about the heat and aren't really equipped for it either. We just aren't great with it in general hahaha.

I don't know if our county has more than two snow plows.

  • Yeah, so I live in the south and last week school was canceled in my county ALL WEEK. The reasons the schools closed were either it was supposed to snow (but didn't really, it rained), or, it was cold outside (yeah, really). The only appreciable snow fall we had last week was on Friday night, when it did snow maybe two inches and then there was some freezing rain on top that made it icy. It's supposed to snow this afternoon and people are losing their minds. I actually think it might snow this time, my northern girl instincts say it feels and looks like snow right now.

But we don't bitch about the heat--it's the humidity! ;)

My I-Hate-Snow-dar is going off like crazy. I don't have northern girl instincts though, I grew up here (since I was 8 anyway) and went to school further south haha.

  • For Dallas it's more like "ice days". We had Monday and Tuesday "ice days" for school, but it's flurrying today and the kids are at school. DH and I both had to work, so he drove me in his big lifted 4x4 truck. I have today off.

I actually fell on the ice walking down my driveway Monday night after work.. I've got some sweet bruises and a really sore butt and left arm.. And I have bloody scrapes on my hand and elbow too.. Ice sucks!

To be fair if they don't get snow somewhere they don't know how, or have the equipment to deal with it. I was shocked moving MD that they are so badly equipped to deal with snow. I did not think it would have been so much different than New England, but you get out of your little bubble and see things are different. I do still laugh inside though.

  • I really hope we don't get snow today.  We have had ice out the wazoo and I would really like for everything to thaw out.  And I'm not usually one to complain about winter or snow, but at this point I'm over it.
