I won a 13,000 dollar wedding package at a bridal expo... but am not engaged yet. My bf and I have been together for a couple years now and are saving up for a ring. Did not plan on winning a wedding, but definitely not turning it away either. Sooo excited to start planning... but feel I should wait until I am officially engaged. Wedding package expires 2014, so I set my date as May 24th 2014 : Had to have a date set when filling out the paper work

This Saturday is the bachelorette, we are going into NYC for dinner and a bar crawl. Someone mentioned a poll dancing class too, but we'll see if there is still time.

I'm going to agree with the others. It's crap that you entered a contest for a wedding when you aren't engaged. And, yes, you shouldn't be planning until you are engaged. So, I'd do absolutely nothing till it's closer to your "wedding" date. If he hasn't proposed, then you may be forced to turn down the prize. Whatever you do, please do not ask your bf to propose. Please understand that saying "I am saving for a ring," or the like is really just code for "I'm not ready" or else he would have proposed with a $15 ring from Walmart. An engagement doesn't require a thousand plus dollar ring.

In the end, it's pretty simple, no one likes to be forced to do something when they aren't ready, and that certainly isn't the way to start a marriage! So just leave it alone.

Also, you took something truely valuable from someone who already has a plan, agreement, and engagement to get married to their SO. That won't make you anyone's friend on this board.

No I'm the only dancer, if we can get a class that should be fun. I wish I was looking forward to it more. I'm just not into the bar/club scene anymore.

Yes to the bolded part...plus I'd be super irritated if I was engaged and entered that contest only to find out some non-engaged girl won it when she has no idea if she is going to be getting married since she (full-circle logic here) isn't engaged. Why on earth are you going to bridal expos?

4) There is no such thing as "officially engaged" or "un-officially engaged". You're either engaged or you aren't. And you, Ms. Pants on Fire, are not.

5) For some reason I pin you as the type of girl who will try to use tihs as a deadline for your BF to propose and marry you. "Omg hunny we just HAVE to get married because like we have $13,000!! OMG OMG OMG! We can't lose it!!!" You know, because getting $13,000 is totally a good reason to get married.

This is just wrong on so many levels. Not engaged persons do not attend bridal shows. In the off chance you joined an engaged friend attending the show, you should not have entered the contest. Like the other posters have stated, if I were an engaged woman who had already had a FI, a general guest count, and a budget I would be pissed.

You don't even know you'll be engaged by then. What happens if you don't and the package expires? Then you have taken away something that could've been used correctly.

My bf and i have been discussing weddings for a while. It qas his idea for us to go to the expo. He is even the one that registered us online for the expo (he is more obsessed with marriage than i am) anyway, there was over 800 registered brides there and thwy drew the winner from everyone that registered. Out of 800 what were my chances they were going to pull my name. U didnt enter for the prize wedding seperately. He was very ecstatic and even helped pick out the wedding date. We ARE saving up for a ring. He knows we have two yearsso he wants to get a really nice one. He wont propose without what he feels is the "perfect ring" even though i TOLD HIM i would take a promise ring or something cheaper. I didnt mean to upset any of u. As far as engaged... not officially... as far as bf... he is def. On the same page... and i asked hin over and over again bfore accpeting the prize if he was absolutely sure he didnt feel pressured at all. We discussed it thouroghly bfore accepting. His family and mine are botg also very ecstatic and wondered why we picked a date so far away. He told them it was so he could save up for a proper proposal. I am sorry if I upset anyone. That was not my intention. And i am not the kind of girl to pressure people into anything... the only thing I fib was my wedding date... which we spent together a while to pick out making sure it worked for everyone.

OP: I will say this again... there is no "officially" or "un-officially" engaged. You either are engaged or you are not. You do not need a ring to be engaged - but it doesn't sound like you consider yourself engaged so my previous WTH comments remain. You did not need to be at this bridal expo in the first place.

21, I don't see why that is important. I don't refer to myself as engaged because I don't want to hurt Jimmy's feelings my bf before his grand proposal of excitement he is planning. If I claim engaged before he does his big proposal.... when we tell everyone after they would be like " what's the big deal? Weren't you already engaged" instead of the reactions like " WOW look, how exciting! Tell us how he proposed!" If I claim engaged now my proposal story would be.... oh... he hasn't. WAY TO MANY AWKWARD COME OUT OF THAT. So... it is just easier to wait. That way I don't ruin his excitement... or anyone else's.
