I originally wanted a string quartet, but now seeing the prices I am re-thinking just having a playlist of music for someone play.. what are you thinking for your ceremony music? we are doing a church wedding then a reception somewhere else so we cant have the DJ do it..

Re: Ceremony Music

  • I'm getting married out by a lake and plan on having a playlist for a friend and a bluetooth sound bar for the ceremony. We are having the ceremony outside with the reception inside at the same location but I don't feel like paying the DJ to play those few songs.

  • We are doing prerecorded Disney music for our ceremony. Our theme is Disney and I already own a lot of the songs on my ipod, so we are just going to use those. As much as I love live music, prerecorded sounds just as good and its free :)
  • You could always see if your church has a piano/organ player too
  • We booked a harpist for $325 to play. She wasn't the cheapest but her music was incredible and I think it will add that "wow factor."
  • I wish I could have a playlist, but the venue I'm getting married at doesn't allow pre-recorded music, only string instruments. We're going with a string duet, but have yet to pick out songs. They will probably be more modern songs, with a mix of some Beatles tunes as well (the fiancé is a huge fan). I am thinking of walking down the aisle to "Here Comes the Sun." :)
  • We're doing a mix of instrumental themes from horror movies as the guests arrive.  My FH is walking to The Freddy Nursery Rhyme as he's dressing as Freddy Krueger, the bridal party is walking to the theme from The Exorcist, and then I'm walking to Greensleeves as I'm dressing as Anne Boleyn.  Then the recessional will be to Bach's Toccata n Fugue.

@Knottie38213341 I love the idea of "Here Comes the Sun"  That's so sweet!
  • well, we are not allowed to do prerecorded music, so we have to go with live. also I had an entrance song picked out, (i do not want to do hear comes the bride) and they made a comment that we need to find a song everyone will know.. the song i picked out is a love song I sang in high school, it is a German love song. so back to the drawing board.

  • Who is setting these rules for you that you can't have pre-recorded or have a song that YOU love even if no one knows it?? :/ You should be able to do whatever you & FH want!
  • weeelll it is a catholic church, I still have to talk to the music director, we are playing phone tag.. but the prerecorded is a church rule..

I get the pre-recorded music rule for church, and I have heard that some Catholic churches do not allow secular music, but the bolded sounds more like an opinion than a rule.  How do they know what songs your guests are familiar with?  If that's an actual rule, I would push back on it.  If it's just their opinion "because that's what everyone does", then ignore it.  The song you had in mind sounds lovely and obviously holds meaning for you, and it does not matter even a tiny bit if no one knows it.  I doubt most of our guests know our processional song.  That thought never even crossed my mind.

  • I agree 100%, I am playing phone tag with the church music director, and he is where I will push it. I do not want to come down to "hear comes the Bride" yuck..

  • I vote play whatever you want! (obviously you will need to clear it with your church but not what others THINK you should play!)

Also did you think to have something like a single violinist play? Or look into hiring high school or college students?
