Are you going to have a videographer?

Ok so I really want a videographer badly but I feel they charge too much in my area for anyone decent with an average of about $1700! That's almost as much as I'm paying for my photographer!!! I just can't see paying that much for a videographer but it is important to me. The cheapest I can find is about $700 but Im not sure I can see paying $700 for services that are less than desirable. I don't know what I'll do! my fiance doesn't think we should spend too much on this since we will probably be the only ones who will care to watch it. But I want it to be good quality too!

For those of you who are having one and already booked them, do you mind me asking how much you are paying? Any suggestions besides just pay for it? lol

  • @fall2015bride I am just going to have someone film JUST the ceremony (we are doing a super quick outdoor ceremony).  Instead of having a videographer there for the reception we are hiring an artist to live paint.  I love the idea of a video, but I love the idea of having our own "one of a kind" painting more.  It was $500 for the artist and its something we can keep hung up in our house forever.  Good luck!

Talk to your photographer....ours is going to have his assistant video the wedding. I think it added something like 200.00 (the extra hour fee) to our bill.

Then for the first dance/father daughter dance the photographer is going record some of it on his camera.

Yeah, we asked the photographer before but he said he didn't know anyone!

  • I went 2 a bridal show and got a dj/videog pkg that was regularly priced at $2800 for $1200 because I booked and paid a $100 deposit on site... Have you thought about WedPix? You shoot the video and they edit it 4 u. Good luck on whatever you decide.
  • We are having one. I honestly did not think I wanted one till I started to really think about it. I am not interested in having one of those "music video" things, where they edit your day and have music and all that. I just wanted video of the ceremony and some at the reception. So when I look back in 10 years I can see my parents/family as they are now, enjoying the night etc. There are somethings photos just cannot capture.

But, like you, I was shocked at the cost, which in my area started around $2500. Thankfully during my venues open house I met one of their preferred vendors that had a $900 package. It was for 5 hours of video which he would then edit down to about a 60 min film. No big effects, no music, just 60 min of footage. It was great and I am very excited I will have some video without it costing that much.
  • Wow I wish I could get a deal somewhere. I've been to several bridal shows but most videographers wont budge on their cost like other vendor's I've worked with.

I'm in Colorado too. Did you find any good discounts at the bridal shows?  I have tickets to one that got postponed from a few Saturdays ago due to weather, and they postponed it to next Tuesday :-P  I don't work or live near downtown Denver, so it's going to be a complete pain to go after work, I almost don't want to go but if there are opportunities to get some discounts I'd be interested.  I'm still looking for a DJ and a cake baker.

Yes we are having a videographer.  It was something I insisted on.  I agree though that they can be very expensive.  In the DC/MD/VA you can find a variety of pricing which gives brides options but the more experienced and sought after ones have packages in the thousands.  I won't even say how much I am paying but I consider the price well worth it.  The videographer I have does awesome work.

It can make you weak and strong simultaneously.

  • We are not. I would love one, but it's just not in our budget. We are buying a camera and my friend volunteered to film. We are probably just having the ceremony filmed.

Hi Julie! I think I know the show you are talking about. I've been to several shows but haven't found anything yet. We are working on a DJ right now. Talk about another expense! Figured out our cake baker and set up a consult with them later this month.

  • @fall2015bride we're having a painter as well! FI's brother had one at their wedding and it was something I'd never seen before but so awesome.

Sorry, OP, we're not having a videographer.  I really wanted, one but FI didn't.

  • I have a high-def camera, so I'm having my sister's boyfriend film the ceremony and parts of the reception.  I will go back and edit the footage later on.  I live in the Harrisburg, PA, area but am getting married near Pittsburgh, and the prices have in general ranged more than my photographer!
  • Not using a videographer because of the cost too! Instead, I am mentioning in my ceremony programs that we will be using the WedPic app (Android or iPhone) to capture all of our moments. Pics and video can be uploaded to any of the events we will be having eg. bridal shower, ceremony, reception, etc. This will give us the opportunity to see everything from their perspective. We even ordered (very inexpensive) cards to hand out at each event as a reminder to download the app to upload their videos/ photos!

  • We are having a videographer but completely lucked out on the price because he is a close friend of my FH and has been since high school.  He normally charges $800 per wedding and he's charging us a mere half.  His work is fantastic and he was originally going to do it for free as our wedding gift but we were not comfortable with that.  He's also an invited guest so we've told him the moments that are important to us for him to capture and are leaving the rest to his direction because we want him to have fun too.
