Why is TK the one stop shop for all of life's problems lately? Jesus.

Go back there during business hours and get your damn car. If they're not there or won't give you your car, call the police and report it stolen saying you've made multiple attempts to retrieve and they're preventing you from doing so.
Did I miss something? I thought the chit chat board was for chit chatting. I didn't know "life problems" were off limits.
I think vents are fine, but I think she meant it gets annoying sometimes when it's stuff that we can't possibly help with. Like we can't help this girl get her car. When my hotel in Iceland told me they lost the prepaid reservation, I didn't come ask ya'll what to do because you could not have helped me.
I actually wasn't asking for help getting the car.  Clearly y'all can't help me with that.  It was more of a vent, and a "tell me if I'm being crazy for being upset about this" kind of thing.  Sorry if my post didn't articulate that well enough... I'm not a very good writer.
Obviously you should be upset. But honestly, you should be upset with yourself for choosing this shop. I don't say that in a mean way, but I find it hard to believe they had positive reviews and you and your coworker are the first to be swindled.

The shop doesn't want to deal with you because something in the milk ain't clean. Go above them. Call the cops.
Oh trust me, I've been beating myself up over choosing them for the past week.

First, I don't understand this rebate thing that magically let you get your car fixed without you paying out any money. Obviously a scam. Things aren't free in life.

Contact your insurance company and the police.
I've seen tons of companies advertising it, and another coworkers daughter did it with another company so I thought it was legit.   Even the local company I talked to, who is definitely legit, said that if I referred them 2 people, they'd rebate me the $500.

Just because it's advertised doesn't mean it's legit.  You have an insurance deductible for a reason.  Not paying it, or them telling you they can get around that should have set off a red flag because if that was the case, then why would you have to have a deductible?

  • What @classicalandedgy said. This smells fishy.

Also, in the future, that $500 rebate is most likely insurance fraud. I had a guy tell me he'd do the same thing and I went to another shop. He didn't tell me this outright, but he was going to quote the insurance company high and rebate me the difference. Don't trust companies like this.
Yeah in hindsight I'm realizing it's totally fishy.  I wish I never went with this company at all.  It just went really well with them at first, which I guess is probably their game.  FI has even tried calling them, I was thinking maybe they'd respond better to a guy, but he hasn't been able to get them either.
I'm blowing this feed up, I know but, I'm an agent, and we just had a lot of claims resulting from a major winter storm in my area, and any time I have a client that comes in and says they have found a repair shop that will do this, I tell them to run.  We have a preferred list of reputable repair shops in our area, and I generally try to steer them toward those.  We obviously can't make them use one of our preferreds, but we can at least try.  I'm surprised your insurance company didn't tell you about anything like that.

No they didn't mention anything, and the adjuster who went out to meet with them didn't mention anything to me either (he's not answering his phone now either, so now I'm like uhh ok is he in on it too?)

Just tried calling again and the shop voicemail is now full and I can't leave a message, so it's not just me for sure.  I sent a text to the number that texted me yesterday, and told them if I don't get a response by 5pm today I will be consulting with the police and a lawyer.

  • And by the way, sorry to everyone who is offended/annoyed by my post.  I've only been hanging out on the boards here for a little over a month and based on the posts I read here on the Chit Chat board during that time, I thought this was an appropriate place to post about my issue.

Next time I'll stick to talking about kitchen finishes and rescue dogs and annoying family members (although I don't have any of those, so maybe not).

I'm not offended/annoyed by you personally. It's just been the last two months or so that the boards have been overwhelmed with "problems" that are rather easily solved with thinking caps, or by asking people far more qualified than a wedding planning chit-chat forum. So I don't blame you for thinking this was a great place for it. CC has been breeding it lately. We're starting to look like the "before" on an infomercial.

I would call the police prior to that deadline. You've given them ample time. Who knows where your car will be once you threaten them.

Just an overwhelming preponderance of questions that don't seem like they should require the Phone a Friend option, that's all. I never said anything was off limits, just wondering why all of a sudden nearly everything is people needing help.
Except when @MagicInk's wife got stuck under the bed. That was warranted. I hope she's doing better, Magic!
    Fuck I missed this story?!?!
See what happens when you take a vacation? It's back on page 2 or maybe 3. Titled "Stuck under the bed".

I wasn't referring to you specifically.  I've just seen posts where people are talking about their crazy family members...whether it's FMIL's, cousins, siblings, whatever.  I also didn't say that there was anything wrong with talking about them either.  Just saying that my post must have been inappropriate for these boards, and I'll stick to other topics that are already posted.

Your post is not inappropriate or annoying or whatever. All kinds of random shit comes up on the CC board.

The only issue with it is that someone will not give you back your car, SO YES CALL THE POLICE! I mean, that shouldn't be a question.

But it's not like I've never posted useless crap before. So don't worry about it.

  • Just an update, I talked to my insurance, they have been trying to get a hold of them too.  They paid the shop back on 3/2, over $7200.  I also talked to the police, and she basically noted that we talked, but told me it was a civil issue, and gave me the number for the court.  Ugh.

  • ...it's not a civil issue if your CAR is STOLEN. Yeah I call bullshit. Everyone's in cahoots with everyone.

No but forreal go by and find your car. If it is not visible on their property, call the cops back and report it stolen. And give them the names of everyone you spoke to at the shop. That is exactly what I would do.

Also - $7200 in HAIL DAMAGE? Fuck hail. I won't live in a place where it hails.

WTF. How is it a civil issue? Worst case scenario, they stole your car. That is a crime.

That's basically what I said to the person I talked to, she was all like "well you gave them the car so they can't steal a car you gave to them".  Uhhh yeah, I gave it to them to fix, not keep forever.  I'm going to call again either later tonight or tomorrow and talk to someone else (the same girl answered when I called back to try and get someone else).  My boss also gave me his uncle's information, who is a civil attorney, so I'm going to call him to ask him his thoughts.  My coworker and I are also contacting news stations.  I'm stopping by there on my way home from work here shortly to see what I can find out, if anything.

And yeah it was this freak hail storm that just pummeled a whole stretch of Denver Metro (including about 10 car dealerships, hail sale anyone?).  We all just stood in our office watching our cars get hammered.  My car is black and was under a tree so it doesn't look too bad unless it's really clean, but some got really torn up.
