Re: TK Cocktail Party

  • For some reason this is my favorite drinking gif:

I'm not much into the fancy recipes! I like trying them, but rarely find anything that satisfies better than your standard margarita or mojito.

  • I used to bartend in a steakhouse, so I've got tons of stupid twelve-ingredient cocktail recipes memorized forever. I can mix you a pretty delicious pomegranate-lavender fizz or blackberry-mint "martini" but I don't have much of a taste for sweet drinks myself anymore.

I like grapefruit, rose, or cardamom bitters in Champagne (or any other dry sparkling.)

I loooooove Negronis too (had one with tequila at a tequila bar a couple weeks ago that was incredible.)

But once a year, I make this monstrosity:

1 oz lemon vodka (I use Absolut, because you're just going to mask it with a bunch of sweet stuff anyway)
    1/2 oz Galliano
    1/2 oz Limoncello
    3 oz pineapple juice

Shake with ice and serve in a sugar-rimmed martini glass. It tastes exactly like lemon meringue pie.

(As an aside, I've always found it hilarious that Don Draper/Mad Men turned an old-fashioned into this manly drink...I mean, it's got sugar and orange, it's pretty sweet and palatable. I feel like a real Don Draper would be into peaty single-malts, not something with a sugar cube, you know?)

A fancy bar I like serves old-fashioneds infused with smoke, though (they use a smoker with cedar chips to fill up an empty bottle and pour the whiskey in before it goes in the glass - the whole thing arrives still smoking and it smells AMAZING.)

I want to love this more than once. This all sounds so fucking delicious, especially that recipe.

I'm a weirdo because I don't like drinks that are too sweet (e.g., Cosmos) but I apparently can't go too bitter, either, because I've never had a Negroni I liked. :(

I love citrus, though, so anything with limoncello is my jam. I think I just dig sour more than bitter (I like Gose beers better than IPAs, for example).

  • I like black russians. Kahluha, vodka and ice. Simple.

Though st. Germaine is amazing with everything too.

I opened a bottle of moscato last night, so that's what I will be having tonight

  • @KatieinBkln, you should try the kiwi-citrus one we used to do too:

    1 oz lemon vodka
    1/2 oz limoncello
    1/2 oz melon liqueur
    3 oz white cranberry juice
    1/2 kiwi, peeled and diced

Shake with ice and strain. Also pretty tasty if citrus is your thing.

    Ha, I was
just making fun of FI for buying melon liqueur because I never drink it and I officially accused him of liking "bitch drinks" (I know, I know, I'm killing feminism). I guess I might actually have to try some now...

Although do you think it would be good with fresh watermelon instead?

    God, I'm ready for summer.

  • TBH I usually drink rum from the bottle.

  • I think anything is good with watermelon. You might need a bit of fresh lemon or lime in there to balance it though.

  • DF and I were in NYC last weekend and went to a bar that doesn't have a menu... you just describe what type of drink you want ("something refreshing with gin" or "something sweet with vodka, and either peach or apricot") and they make something up. It was AWESOME. I have no clue what I was drinking, but they were amazing. I got tipsy off of two (which made me feel better paying $20 a pop).

  • I love anything with tequila in it. My go-to is a margarita, but FI and I went to a restaurant in Charleston a few weeks ago called Husk, and I had a cocktail called the Charleston Light Dragoon Punch. It had brandy, rum, peach brandy, black tea, lemon, and sugar. SO good.

I'm assuming you were at Milk and Honey, it's a speakeasy that does this for $16 a drink, cash only.

I prefer Death & Co personally for a speakeasy in NYC but both are fun and have great drinks!

  • So last night I had a delicious basil margarita (rocks, not frozen, what am I, a peasant?) and a delicious little champagne drink with sparkling rose, aperol, honey, and lemon. A+, would drink again!
