Walmart's new parking

I love my cousins from the south, but sometimes.... I. JUST. CAN'T.  Today, they  posted that Walmart is thinking about designating spaces for wounded warrior parking.  Why will this even be a thing?  I am not dishonoring injured veterans, but isn't that why we have handicapped parking?  I brought this up to my cousin, and she said this is for people who earned their disability.
  I am pretty sure someone who lost both legs in the war has the same disability as a person born without both of his legs.  Why not just increase the disability parking, if there is that much demand?  And secondly, a disability is something you will have, most likely, for your entire life. There is no reason a wounded vet would not be able to get a handicapped parking permit.  And... how many wounded vets are there in this world to rationalize designated parking? 
  I think parking spots for pregnant women is a better idea, because it is a temporary condition that puts limitations on you. There are more pregnant women in this world than wounded vets, and  a pregnant woman's limitations would not last as long to justify getting a handicap parking permit.
   It just seems like Walmart is, unnecessarily, pandering to conservatives. What do you think?

    Also, I park in pregnant parking. IDGAF and they don't know if I'm pregnant or not.

    The pregnant woman parking at a mall near me annoys the crap out of me. It's a big outdoor mall. If you can walk around this mall, you can walk through a parking lot. It makes 0 sense.

    Pregnant lady parking at a grocery store, on the other hand, would make sense.

    As for the wounded warrior parking, how long does one qualify? Like, if you were injured in Korea, can you park there?

    I can imagine Frank Barone loosing his shit over someone stealing his parking space, before he stole bulk candy to sample it.

    Wounded Warriors are those who have a service connected injury occuring after September 10, 2001 rating at least a 30% disability per the VA's disability rating system (which is different than say, Social Security Disability's requirements or your state disability program). 

    What I really don't understand about this is...severe hearing loss also qualifies for Wounded Warrior status if it meets the above.  And PTSD.  Those are all unfortunate things to deal with, but why does that mean you are unable to walk an additional 50 feet?  Do rape survivors living with PTSD get preferential parking?  Or immigrants from war-torn countries who witnessed genocide and other atrocities and now live with PTSD and depression? 

    It just smacks of humblebragging - it's an empty gesture in order to posture about how "patriotic" they are and be able to finger point and label their competitors "unpatriotic".
    So if you were injured in Vietnam you are not included?   That's fucked up.   Pretty sure my uncle, west point grad, had 4 tours in 'Nam as a helicopter pilot  is as much of a warrior as someone who fought after Sept 10, 2001.     Not that he was injured, just saying if he was.  

    And that is part of my issue with this?  We have disability (which is fine), then pregnant women, then moms with kids, then old people (we have over 65 parking at our grocery store), now wounded warriors. I've even seen veteran's parking.   Where does it end?  Everyone can't have the closest spots. 






    What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

    It just seems showy to me. I have a disability and I try to no let people know it. I try to pretend like I'm fine. But I certainly would never do anything so someone could say, "Oh... that's why you're disabled? You're a hero!" 
      We have plenty of firemen and policemen, injured in the line of duty; sports players that entertain us at the exoense of becoming quadriplegics, teachers that become human shields at school shootings, a mother who got into a bad accident, but could never take painkillers because she has to watch her children, and anyone who has suffered any loss mobility because of a birth defect or injury.  We are saying their suffering is minuscule compared to a vet. Vets get paid, they assume the risk. I feel bad for them when they come back from war as pieces of what they once were, but it does not make their suffering paramount to other persons with disabilities.  I hope no one is taking this as dishonoring the fallen or injured of our wars, I'm just saying it does not deserve a special spot among the disabled.

    The grocery store here has normal handicap parking, parking for people with kids, and veteran parking… It sucked so bad when half the other spots were covered in snow.

    My FIL was in Vietnam and had close contact with Agent Orange. As a result, he now has absolutely no feeling in his feet. He also has not yet applied for disabled parking because he's a guy and he's prideful, even though he really does have trouble walking. So, he wouldn't qualify to park in the wounded warrior parking? That's stupid.

    I'm all about the pregnancy parking. But yeah, if you already qualify for having a disability, why do you need an extra special parking spot?

    What is this kid parking and why don't our grocery stores have it? FSS is a kid, I have to deal with him in the store so shouldn't I get to be 5 feet closer?! Or is this only for bio moms? Step moms in my area have issues.

    I agree with the *sentiment* they're trying to go for.  The wounded soldiers were hurt protecting our country and I think once soldiers get back people forget about them.   

    I think if they're going to do this, there needs to be no cut-off at 9/11.  That's just silly.  And is a parking spot really the best way to honor our Veterans?  Probably not.  It will be interesting to see what happens with this.

    If I'm with Wifey I totally park in family parking at Ikea. We're a family. A family is not defined by having children or not having children. We count as a family. Also it's to the side of the building and often shady. Though the aisle isn't as wide so it can be harder to back out.

    Totally pandering. Gross. And I think if I were a veteran, I wouldn't really want to parade that around, so I'd probably pick a regular spot and end up further away. 

    Pregnant parking ehhh I think that's a little silly, except obviously at a place like Babies R Us where there will be a higher than usual number of pregnant ladies. But maybe I'm just saying that as someone who hasn't been pregnant.

    I meant they as in my family.  I was born in the south and lived down there for a bit before I moved up north.  My family is a little easily led, not southerners in general.

    I don't really get stabby about pregnancy parking. Not because I'm pregnant. I would personally never use it. I have two capable legs and no prenatal issues. 

    But some pregnant women are really supposed to take it easy or are on partial bedrest or whatever. And they still need to get shit done - maybe they're single moms who don't have anyone to help them run errands or whatever. 

    I'm with you on the walmart fire though.. I wouldn't pee on it even if I really had to pee.

    You led with it in your OP, so it seemed relevant. 

    No biggie. I was/am born/raised/live in the south and think it's a dumb idea so I know it wasn't an accurate generalization. Handicapped parking is already a thing.

    I always see it as for women who are having issues with their pregnancy. I'm pregnant but I would never use it (well not unless I was having some kind of complication). 

    I mean, there are people who do stupid stuff that puts them in the disability category and they still park in handicap.
