April Fools Day

13

Re: April Fools Day

  • Gotta love this holiday! We have done a couple at the office.. put tape over a phone jack so the person couldn't figure out why the calls weren't working, covered a phone in an entire pack of rubber bands, turned screens upside down.

Best one from college.. a group of guys broke into our house (yes, we were all friends) and stole all of our left shoes.. in retaliation they lost all of their light bulbs.

I called my dad one time to say someone in a truck had pulled up to our house, went into the shed, loaded some stuff up and left. I asked if he had someone coming over and he went total freak out asking if I got the license plate number.

This year my computer played the trick on me.. turned it on this morning and got the black screen of death, restarted and it worked!

what's the rubber band on the nozzle thing?  I'm trying to imagine a) how it is done and b) what it does?

We had this kind of faucet. When you pulled up the little top pully thing, water would come out of the sprayer instead of the faucet. It always went back down when you turned the water off, but if you held it there with a rubber band around the stem, and positioned the sprayer just right, you'd get shot in the face.

Debbie Downer alert: I really hate April Fool's Day. I never used to like it when I was younger and usually just got annoyed if someone tried to trick me with something that was so obviously a joke. Like how long do I have to stand here and laugh at your stupid prank that didn't work on me?

BUT I do get a huge kick out of people who do Facebook pranks... I've already seen two today. One is from a girl who posted a picture of a fake sonogram with the caption "2015 is going to be a great year!" and it's actually kind of sad because this girl just broke up with her boyfriend over the holidays and was constantly posting statuses about being 30 and single...

... and then the other post came from a couple I know from college who could probably be getting engaged anytime now. They changed their relationship status on Facebook to "engaged" this morning AS A JOKE. what the actual fuck. One of their aunts commented like yes! finally! so happy! let's celebrate! And then the couple had to reply that it was just a prank.

I'm hoping there's more on my Facebook feed today and I'll be watching everyone get duped from behind my computer screen like:

That is horrible and super offensive to anyone wanting/trying to get pregnant and not, going through a loss, etc. I would defriend someone for doing that, and wish I could punch them in the neck.

As someone who is struggling and experiencing losses, I am 100% staying off of facebook today because of stupid shit like this.

  • I'm not much into pranking. The only thing I've done was one year, a bunch of the office staff Saran wrapped our boss' desk. Like, the whole thing. His chair, his phone, and the entire surface of his desk (with all his papers and stuff still on it). No idea why but he loved it.

  • OH I forgot a prank that a bunch of us played on a coworker a couple of years ago. We'll call the coworker Sam.

So Sam was rocking out to the Glee version of "Don't Stop Believin'" in the elevator one morning, singing out loud. Doesn't hear the chime because his headphones are in. Doors open, he is still singing, and in walks his super straight-laced boss, who just gives him a look. He tells us all this story that afternoon and we get a huge kick out of it. We teased him (and he teased himself about it) for weeks.

Fast forward a few weeks, a coworker orchestrates this whole thing. So I ask Sam to go out to lunch with me, while we're at lunch IT comes in and changes all of the alert sounds on his computer to clips from the Glee "Don't Stop Believin.'" We get back, and every single email, error message, restart, everything... just plays Glee. The best part was his call to IT. "Umm... Hi... I can't get my computer to stop singing Glee?"

  • Ok I can't find my previous post in the thread (but see it in my profile)... anyways, let's try this again

My ex thought it would be a "funny" prank to pretend to break up with me on April Fool's Day.  He was really serious about it, and I was crying and super upset.  He didn't let it go on long but I was super fucking pissed.  He told his family about it and they all were mad about how fucked up it was.

We broke up (I dumped his ass) pretty soon after... for many reasons.

Only prank I've ever been involved in was putting my old boss's stapler in jello like in the Office.
  • Funniest one I have seen today: My friend posted that he couldn't make it to Chicago for the Fare Thee Well tour, so he was selling his tickets for face value. There was so much wookie hope in those comments...

  • I really don't get too into pranks, because I think that they are mostly mean-spirited. And also, laziness.

    This is pretty much me.
  • I can't find who posted it, but I just did that text prank on my friends and coworkers and got a ton of funny selfies back and now they're doing it to all their friends! That cracked me up.

  • About the pregnancy thing, DH and I have finally gotten in touch with everyone we wanted to personally tell in person or via phone.

Now we're going to do the obligatory facebook "we're pregnant" thing (nothing cheesy - y'all know me). We got in touch with our last person last night so we were going to do it today but umm it's not actually a joke so.....

That was me - I'm glad I could spread the joy of incredibly unflattering selfies a little further.

I'll just hope for everyone's sake that no one is checking their phone in the nude.

  • You guys, I dunno.

FI's brother just posted that "some bad decisions have caught up with him" and he's being kicked out of the Marines. It's probably an April Fool's joke. But I dunno. On the one hand, he has made some pretty shitty decisions and it wouldn't surprise me. On the other hand, he's just the kind of person who would think this was a funny prank.

I really hate April Fool's Day.

Exactly the reason I hate those kind of jokes. Guess I took the boy who cried wolf seriously growing up. Some things you shouldn't lie about.

He took it down. But that still doesn't prove definitively that it was a joke. Maybe he posted it for real then realized people thought it was a joke. More than likely I guess it's a joke. I guess I'll find out when FI comes home. If it was real, he'll have something to say about it.

Yea, we definitely will not do it today. We didn't really think "oh it's April Fools Day" we just thought "cool, VIPs know, let's do it tomorrow." Maybe even Friday or Saturday since everyone will be coming down from the "is this real?" skepticism.

I have a FB friend who posted a pregnancy announcement on FB on April 1st a couple of years ago and no one believed her even though she was, in fact, pregnant. It was all kinds of awkward.

  • My friend's birthday is today. And she shared the story of her arrival.

So her mom was at work and was going to be going on maternity leave soon, mom calls dad from work and goes "You have to come get me, I'm going into labor" and dad flat out refuses to believe mom. He's goes "haha, sure, april fools" and she goes "No, for real, get your ass over here", dad still won't believe mom and a co-worker ends up taking her to the hospital, where mom has the doctor get on the phone and confirm mom is in labor, and dad gets his hind quarters over to the hospital. Little girl is born.

Dad is making the calls later on to the family "yay baby girl is here!" and fucking no one would believe him!

Her mom has never let her dad live down that he almost missed the birth of his child because he thought it was an elaborate April Fools prank.

Here's one I don't get - the Good News!! FB post that turns out to be an April Fools joke. Seriously, every year a few of my friends have statuses that are like "I got this amazing job working at Apple..!" or "Finally, living my dream by moving to California!!" and then 1000 likes later they are all "April Fools ya'll!"

The thing is - these jobs/moves/etc really are their dream. What...what is the point of this prank? It's certainly not funny, though I guess not mean or harmful.

The only thing I can think of is that it's really AWish and they are just desperate for all the likes and comments. Which actually makes me a little sad. I dunno.

Edited - misspelled "desperate." Oops. April Fools?

  • As someone who spent March 31 in the hospital getting an Ectopic pregnancy removed, I certainly don't find fake pregnancy announcements to be remotely funny. In fact, a fringe friend from college put one up and I am about to send her a message telling her how terribly offensive it is.

I generally hate April Fools jokes, but my friends played a really funny one on H a couple years back, right after we started dating. The friend is a very good friend of H's and is Canadian. A few months prior, she had been sent back to Canada for a couple months for visa issues. So she started texting H that she was going to get deported again and would he marry her. She said their friendship went back far enough that if someone were to look at Facebook or something they would easily be able to construct a back story, etc. This went on for awhile before he realized it was a prank. I found it hilarious.

  • I have a friend that just got engaged today - she texted me a picture of a ring on her hand and said "guess what just happened!" I had to ask her if it was real or an april fool's joke before I could congratulate her. She said she asked her (now) fiancé the same question when he asked her!
  • April's Fools Day on my Facebook feed are a bunch of grown ass women who think it's hysterical to announce that they're "pregnant". It's not only disrespectful to other people, but that shit is played. At least be original with your jokes.

I like lighthearted April's Fools jokes. My 10 year old cousin texts me from her moms phone and will send me an April Fool's joke all year round so I'm going to get her back somehow today.

  • Put one mark in the "Fake engagement" column on my Facebook. How annoying. "April Fools! Thanks for all the well wishes and messages! We're not engaged!"
