Any interest in a workout buddy/motivation group?

And yes before you say it, I totally could head over to the Getting in Shape board, but I do so love you ladies here!

With that said, I am kicking off my getting off the coach, and putting down the oreos new way of life TODAY!  Yay me!

Anyone interested in joining me in the no more sloth way of life?  I tend to lack motivation when it comes to exercise, so a little kick in the rear end wouldn't hurt me any!!!

Re: Any interest in a workout buddy/motivation group?

  • ME.

I kid you not, I set my alarm at 4:20 THREE times this week so I would get up and work out. I succeeded at this 0 times.

I was thinking of starting a similar thread just yesterday!

  • Oh Yay!!!  I feel like if I HAVE to come on here and tell you that I was a lazy blob each day it will start to get embarrassing and I will actually start to do it!
  • I'm up for it.
  • This sounds like an excellent idea. I tell myself I'm going to go to the gym almost every weekday and I rarely actually go!

  • I'm up for it as well.  Weekends are the worst for me, personally.  I do *relatively* well during the week then come the weekend I completely screw it up (both with over-indulging and not working out).
  • Me me me! I am rejoining a gym after my vacation. I made an appointment to see my asthma/allergy doctor about an inhaler because any exercise causes me to have an asthma attack so I had to stop for a while. Count me in!
  • Awesome!  I am starting today, however I can be in charge of a post starting tomorrow as a check in if that sounds good?  We can do a sort of check in on the previous day, unless someone has a better idea.
  • Sounds good to me :) I have more motivation to go to the gym if I know someone will be asking me if I went the next day.

  • I won't be starting until tomorrow because H and I have plans for dinner tonight and I am not working out after gorging myself on raw fish!

But I promise that I will be up and at 'em before work tomorrow!

Oh yes, please spare yourself that pain.  I ate sushi yesterday (let's be honest, I ate too much sushi yesterday) and then attempted a workout.  It was not a pretty picture.
  • I will! I am currently using an app but some extra motivation is always great!

I have a couple at-home routines I found I could post, one burns 100 calories and the other burns 300 (it kicks your ass the first time, at least it kicked mine and then BF's when he made fun of me and I made him do it with me).

    Yea, so excited! Great idea!

  • I can't start till the end of next week cause my appointment isn't until next Thursday so I'll be checking in for myself once I get my inhaler, but I'll keep up with everyone and help motivate!
  • @swazzle - I admire people who can motivate themselves to get to the gym before work. I could never do it!

  • @bethsmiles - I haven't been able to yet! I normally get up at 5 so 4:20 will be pretty painful (I'm planning on starting 30-Day Shred for the 8 billionth time). BUT I know myself too well and as soon as I get home from work, I need to take off my bra and pants so it's really my only choice.

  • I'm in!!! I reaaaaally need to try to do more strength training.

  • @dignity100 - thats hilarious....its like the friends episode where  chandler wants to quit the gym and theyre all like you belong to a gym? and hes like yeah i try to go 3 times a week but ive missed the last.....1200 times.

i am TOTALLY in for  this!! i have the worst motivation....and my new office is overflowing with free chips, snack bars, candy, cookies, etc etc. i feel like i have an easier time working out than i do with eating well....thats what really gets me. i can drag my ass to the gym 4 times a week but then i will eat ALL THE FOOD and un-do all my hard work.
  • I'm in! Been thinking about rejoining a gym for a few weeks now smh.

I am totally in as well. I have been eating better and watching my calories but I need motivation to get my butt to the gym more often. I really have no excuses either since my office has a gym open 24/7 and my apartment complex does too. I think my problem is I like working out in a group but can't justify paying for group classes when I have gyms available to me for free.

@jenjen047 I used to struggle with this too (still do sometimes). I have found that browsing Pinterest for healthy recipe ideas has been helpful, and I also have protein bars that I keep in my office. They are ones that my nutritionist recommended, and they use some sort of sugar oil to sweeten them that isn't broken down the same way as traditional sugars in the body. I don't really understand it but they do taste good, and FI (who normally gets a headache from regular sugar) doesn't get headaches when he eats them. They are ThinkThin brand ones, and you can find them at Target or the grocery stores.

ETF: major typo...I bolded it. That's what happens when I knot before coffee

I struggle with this as well! The auto broker my credit union works with brings in delicious baked goods every Wednesday and we bake cookies on Friday and I'm always so tempted. I have no self-control!

ETA: I second @AuroraRose41 's suggestion for ThinkThin Bars. I just had one for lunch because I forgot my lunch today and it will probably hold me over until 4:30ish. I eat the high protein ones and brownie crunch is my favorite. But they are all pretty good.

  • @bethsmiles and @aurorarose41 - thanks for the tip!!!
  • I struggle with snacking too, so I will add in a confession feature!  Again maybe if I have to fess up that I ate an entire sleeve of thin mints then the embarrassment factor will get me to eat better!  Nothing like a public shaming to get one on the straight and narrow.

I struggle the most when my kids aren't home.  When they are here I eat super healthy because I lead by example and I don't want them eating junk.  Now when they are gone at school and at their dad's I seem to lose all sense of self control.  Sad!
  • I.... did not get up this morning.

I got home and did not clear out the area so that I can use my elliptical.
    @Swazzle - we're off to a great start!!  :)

Every Friday at work they have these Breakfast Burritos which are fantastic and amazing - but they also have like 850+ calories in one.  So I'm SO trying to avoid it... or maybe I'll see if somebody wants to split one.

  • I also caved and got a bagel with cream cheese. I fail so hard.

I am done work at noon today and have to run to the DMV to renew H's car registration (it's in my name, sigh) AND THEN I AM GOING TO DO 30DS. I AM GOING TO FUCKING WORK OUT TODAY IF IT KILLS ME.

  • I did two rounds of the countdown workout for 600 calories last night. I rewarded myself with two glasses of red wine and a beer.... :/ Buuuut....I was still at budget for calories yesterday so I didn't feel too guilty about it. Got on the scale today and I am down about half pound so hopefully my plateau is dunzo.

I tried a new dinner for myself last night since BF was gone. A piece of whole grain toast topped with avocado and two eggs. It needed salt but it was super tasty and it really filled me up! Or maybe that was the wine....either way, it was soooo good! I was going to have a banana topped with honey and cinnamon but I just wasn't hungry for a snack later.

I am so glad you are starting this! :)

  • @loves2dream - One of my favorite things to eat is toast/english muffin with mashed avocado, sliced hard boiled egg, and topped with some Frank's hot sauce! It's SO yummy.

  • I LOVE Frank's hot sauce! I even have the BF hooked on spicier food too! Last night I made him quac with the other half of the avocado when he got home and he asked for more heat! LOL I didn't put hot sauce on mine but I will try that next time, thanks! :)

  • I walked home yesterday for the first day in what felt like forever since fall (its a 5 mile or so walk).  It was glorious to be outside in the sunshine...but today its cold again.  Ugh.  I'm going to try to hit the gym for 30-45 minutes today or at least walk home again.  I hope I make it to the gym because I KNOW H is going to call me around 5 (he has off) and ask me if I want him to pick me up...and I also know I'll cave.
  • I had a pt session last night. It was definitely a good work-out, I'll be sore later today. And my new trainer is noticing lots of wonky things with my form so he's helping me correct all of that which is good because I don't want to hurt myself.

Today is a non-gym day for me. If it's not too cold out (it snowed last night) I'll go on a walk with BF this evening so I at least do something active.
