@AlPacina - YAY for quitting! Good luck!

@Blue & White - How is good Friday not specifically a Christian holiday? It's weird to me you would get it off, but hey a day off is a day off.

I'm currently judging some of my co-workers. Yesterday HR sent out an e-mail saying April 23 (I think) is bring your kids to work day. I honestly did not know places really did this but whatever. Today we got an e-mail clarifying that you could not bring your fur babies to work on bring your kids to work day. I totally understand that for some people their pets really are their kids and I'm cool with that. But we work at a credit union. All sorts of different people come in every day. People who could be allergic or afraid of your pet. And it just seems like a really overwhelming environment for an animal. Maybe I'm just being bitchy but I can't believe people actually asked if they could bring in their pet to work.

@bethsmiles - You are not alone in being a little incredulous. There is a day like that at my company, but I'm pretty sure there's an age restriction. And if there is an age restriction, there definitely aren't going to be toddler-minded furbabies around. I would definitely not assume a pet-child would be included for an "event" like that.

Continuing on the topic, most of the kids that come into the office are bored out of their skulls. They go around drawing on everyones white boards, and that's about it. I wouldn't subject my kid to that! Although they can get awesome tours of the high voltage labs, but that has gotten so popular that most people don't get to do it now.

  • @bethsmiles that's the thing. Good Friday is totally a Christian holiday. We don't get off for holidays for any other religion and I find it weird that the public school system thinks this is okay. I feel like it's just leftover from the olden days of bible belting but it's still weird. My school day is actually over in two hours so I can't complain about my productivity so far
I guess, to tell you the truth, I've never had much of a desire to grow facial hair. I think I've managed to play quarterback just fine without a mustache. - Peyton
  • @AlPacina - Yay for quitting!!!!! I quit 6.5 years ago after smoking for 7 years. It's hard as fuck but gets easier with time! Stick with it, you got this!

I loved this as a college student (although it was what I was studying and we got to go into the Faraday cage while the big Tesla coil was turned on....). That would be an awesome take your kid to work day activity! Also, my company does it over the summer, which makes a lot more sense to me because the kids are out of school. It's very strange that most do it during the school year.

As for the bolded, my mom has worked at a local bank for the last 20ish years. She recently moved to a different branch that is the downtown location, so they get a lot of pedestrian traffic. I went to visit her new office the other day, and I was shocked to see a giant jar of dog treats behind every teller station and a big doggie water bowl by the door. I asked her if any of the employees brought their dogs to work, and she said, "No, but customers bring in their dogs all the time!" I cannot imagine bringing my dog into a bank.... that seems totally inappropriate to me! (unless of course, it's a service dog of some sort) But I guess because people are out walking their dogs around downtown, and they need to stop in the bank, they just bring the dogs right in

I dont think this is that weird. I live in a city so I often bring my dog with me to run errands and take a walk at the same time (2 birds, one stone). Shes been to CVS, the bank, and the post office loads of times. If it were a suburban location where people are driving, that's different.

ETA: guys I AM SO BORED AT WORK. i have scoured fb, TK, and buzzfeed. please help! send entertainment....
  • Also @AlPacina yay for quitting! You can do this :)

@cu97tiger I hope you feel better soon! Cramps are the worst.

@swazzle I hope your H makes the shot!

@TwoDimes Indy has gotten so big!

Today is another slow day. I'm not complaining though. I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon too, which is just a check up but we will see how it goes. FBIL came down around 8 pm last night, and we walked to one of our favorite nearby restaurants. FI and FBIL's friend flew in today, and FBIL went to pick him up while FI and I drove in to work. Drivers were worse than normal today. I got cut off twice on the highway to the point that I had to slam on my brakes, and people were driving under the speed limit. When the normal speed of traffic is 10-15 mph over. I'm just hoping the rest of my day goes well.

Tomorrow, FI, FBIL, and their friend are running a 5k in the morning. I might sign up at the last minute if there is room. Then I have a hair appointment, and then we will just hang out, catch up, and find something to do. We have no plans for Sunday yet.

  • @Swazzle - Awwww, thanks! And congrats on sticking with it for so long! Do you feel like you replaced smoking with something else? I know that if I'm not smoking tobacco, I'm typically smoking pot, so it will be interesting to quit both at the same and see what else I find to fixate on.

Not smoking sucks right now. I'm developing cold symptoms and just want to curl up with a blankie.

  • @AlPacina - I definitely gained weight after I quit but I'm honestly not sure if I was actually eating more or if there's some other explanation. I've never been a pot smoker and I've always been a drinker so nothing changed there. I wish I had replaced it with working out!

  • @TwoDimes - One of our branches actually does hand out doggie treats, but only through the drive-thru people don't actually bring them in!

  • @Swazzle - I know I'm way late to this, but I've never had luck with cilantro because it goes to seed so fast in OK because of the heat.  It needs to be 75 degrees or cooler for cilantro to grow without going to seed.  Also, it is a short season herb (4-6 weeks) so you have to continually sow new seeds to have cilantro all season. I finally gave up and grow all my herbs except cilantro!  It's too high-maintenance for me, I'm a lazy-ish gardener.  LINK to grow cilantro.
