How do you do placecards?

This may seem obvious, but.... How do you make/get placecards?

Printable from Etsy? Order from Etsy, in the mail? Just print out the names, and cut them into the right size? I'm lost.

You can either buy them and print them yourself (directions should be included) or take them to a printer. Or you can buy them pre-printed.

Literally whatever you want. Print onto business cards. Print onto cardstock and cut/fold. Order them from anywhere. Write the names on post-its.

FYI though, place cards are totally unnecessary. Unless you mean ESCORT cards. An escort card is set near the door and tells a person which table they're sitting at (and if necessary, displays which entree they've chosenfor the waitstaff to see) whereas the place card is set at each place and dictates which person sits at which actual seat at the table. Just stick with escort cards and let people pick their own seat.

I bought name card tent things at office max for like four dollars then hand printed all the names and table numbers. Easy peasy. I also addressed all my invites and have decent handwriting so I was comfortable doing this. There were templates you could download to print them too.

I bought simple tent cards from the wedding section of Michael's. They were really inexpensive.

If you buy the boxed escort cards from and office supply place, the box will have information about going on line for a template. If you want to use this as a way to give a gift to your guests, I have purchases mini jar candles from Dollar Tree and just used sticky labels for the name and table number. Lately, I have seen really pretty charts on easels with the guests' names and table numbers. For that, you can design it on paper then bring it to Kinkos (or any other print place) and they can put it on a poster for you.

The wedding coordinator at the hotel I'm having my reception at has been really adamant about having people's names on a poster board or on a mirror and then having place cards. I feel like that's extra work. One thing I really liked was having the escort cards near the front of the opening so people can place themselves. I think the idea that @LauderdalePink had is beautiful-- the only thing is that we need to note on the back what type of dish they got (beef, chicken, veggie).

Another person here who went to craft store & bought the kit that came with a website address for a template so they would be spaced perfectly and can be ran through my printer. I did do a test run on regular paper first. Looked great and I'm one who would rather type up information and try to write neat.

I made my own. I used a business card template on word but printed them to card stock instead so that they would be the color I wanted and not white/ivory. I glued lace along the top.

That's what I bought! I haven't printed them yet for my wedding but other reviewers say its easy peasy. Or you could write on them yourself. The paper is thick and nice quailty. I thought the ivory might look pretty on a white tablecloth.

We are having a buffet so we didnt necessarily need the beef, chicken, fish photo for the servers for escort cards. So I opted for something like this:

I have been thinking of a cool way to do this besides just normal cards. I've seen little paper butterflies perched at the tip of a champagne glass with their name and table on it. Or my cousin had a destination wedding in Dominican Republic and she set out little dominican dessert squares with labels on them with our name and table information. So it was like the place setting and wedding favor all in one.

I bought manila tags, stained them with tea, printed off labels with names and food choice, stuck them on the tags, stamped FI and my initials on the back, and then they'll be tied with twine onto the candy favours. I am placing them at the seats, and then having frames with table numbers and names when people enter. If people choose to switch seats when they get to their tables they can!

For the morbidly curious, here's what we ultimately did: We could NOT find printable tent cards anywhere -- not at Michael's, Party City, Office Max, nowhere! Finally, we bought a Microsoft Word template from a vendor on Etsy, entered the names/table numbers, and then took the files to Kinko's and had them printed onto cardstock there.
