Let's talk this about this interesting sitcom.

Oh wow, so I'm watching Friends for the first time ever. When I was young I wasn't allowed to watch it and I've been meaning to because it's on Netflix and well I was born in the 90's; I almost feel obligated to watch it.

Wow is it horrific. I don't know why everyone thinks it is so amazing but holy cow! These people! Like is this real life?
No. If it was real life, nobody would watch it. For that matter, if drama or writing or art of any kind was real life, nobody would go to a movie or read a book or buy a painting or see a ballet or watch a TV show.

If it was real life, all the Friends would just go to work, and come home, and maybe drink a beer or a glass of wine and watch TV in their sweats for 30 minutes of airtime, probably while eating a frozen dinner.
The apartment would be 1/4 the size, Joey would get 10 STDs and 5 illegitimate children, Chandler wouldn't have 5000 sarcastic zingers for all occasions, Ross wouldn't scream at his boss about a stolen sandwich. There would be no monkey. Phoebe would never be allowed to sing in a cafe. Rachel would have a bad hair day.

(The Monty Python guys would never walk into a cafe of Vikings singing about spam, Lucy Ricardo would never have tried to repeatedly sneak into Ricky's show, The Three Stooges wouldn't have poked each other's eyes, and Charlie Chaplin wouldn't walk like that. )

    FTFY!
Really? Come on- you don't need to slut shame sitcom characters. Ever heard of condoms. And we know he used them because the one where Ross finds out Rachel is pregnant has a whole scene about it.

I think as the show developed, the character's personalities became really pronounced.  I LOVE friends, and I can't even fathom how people don't like it. I HATE Seinfield, I could never identify with any of the characters. I don't do everything Rachel would do, yet I feel I identify most with her. My sister identifies most with Monica. She would never take a little vacuum to vacuum a larger vacuum, but still... similarities are there. At the end of the show, Ross started to annoy me, although his situations were still funny.

Isn't there a name for that?
I know that in the Office (which I loved) Michael Scott got worse and worse as the seasons progressed and someone told me there is a name for it so that's what I figured was going on here. I just can't remember it.

    I need to watch Seinfeld.

    Flanderization!

I'm Sorry. Not Sorry for wasting the afternoon of whoever clicks on that link.

They did this with Eric on Boy Meets World. He became such a doofus in the later seasons.

Me too! In the early seasons his character was just a kid who didn't try as hard as he should in school and maybe lacked a little common sense and then toward the end it was like he was this person who would've never been able to function at all on his own. It was disappointing.

See I'm the exact opposite. I love Seinfield and hate Friends. Friends didn't really make me laugh at all, and it seem to be more about pretty faces. I feel like Seinfield had more wit to it and I enjoyed the characters better.
I feel that people who like Friends don't like Seinfeld and vice versa. I am a HUGE Friends fan, and I'm "meh" about Seinfeld. FI though, loves Seinfeld and is not really into Friends. I've noticed that with other people too, I don't think I've really met anyone that loves both shows .

This happened in the show "Rules of Engagement". The character Adam just seemed to get worse and worse with how dumb he was and I was just astounded. I loved how his fiancé would say "but he's cute" though. I sometimes say that about my boyfriend when I'm teasing him.

    BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Seriously, lol?  I can't make a joke about a sitcom character?

Do you not remember that scene?  They talk about how condoms are 97% effective.  It's IN that episode.  Condoms are not 100%, so yeah, if  you have sex with THOUSANDS of women... odds are, it might result in pregnancy!

And I'm not slut shaming, lol.  We're not talking about someone who has a one-night stand once in a while.  We're talking about someone who unashamedly has sex with practically a different women every night.  A man who can't even remember the names of people he sleeps with.  Or in that one episode, they joke that he's basically slept with every single woman in NY, and now he's just going back around again.

Just saying, in reality, if you literally had hundreds of partners per year, you'd probably end up with quite a few STDs, and maybe a few children.... Condoms or not.

ETA:  I LOVE Joey.  He's a sweetheart, and I love his character.  But the joke was about "if sit coms were real life"...

I like both (but in diet).

I like diet pepsi from either a bottle, can or fountain, but I prefer a diet coke from a fountain.  Out of a bottle or can it just doesn't taste the same.
