@littlepep, it really speaks to my soul. I live in a small apartment with two men who adore hockey and baseball and sports interviews/commentary is a very frequent soundtrack in my living room...and this is exactly what it sounds like to me.

Fortunately, both of my housemates understand my feelings on it and now try to PVR games and watch them on at least a half hour to an hour delay so we can fast forward through the "So, would you say it's important for you guys to skate hard and put the puck in the net?" "Yeah, actually, it would really help us win this game if we could start scoring some goals" between every period.
amelisha One of my favorite interview moments ever was during a halftime interview. Our football team had not made a field goal the whole first half. During the interview the lady was like so coach what are you going to do about the kicking problem? And he was like we're done kicking; we're not kicking the ball anymore. She was like but what do you mean??? And he was like I mean we're not kicking the football. They talked about not kicking the football for a good five minutes. I was like what is the point of this!?!

Interviews are always so stupid. Like what is your plan for the second half? Um to play well?

  • We scheduled our wedding smack dab in the middle of the SEC Championship game. Between work, VIPs, and the photographer we wanted very badly, this was what we had to work with.

My dad is a Bama fan. He made it. Our family friend is too. He was there HOURS EARLY for the wedding because he's that awesome. My SIL is a Bama fan and even she didn't give 2 shits about the game. I only had one guest go rogue and announce loudly while I was doing table visits how the game was going and how he wished he could be watching it but it was hard with the crappy reception in Nowhere, Alabama (sorry?). There's actually an adorably entertaining picture of me lecturing him about how he was the ONLY PERSON THAT CARED AND I KNOW HE DIDNT CARE ABOUT FOOTBALL AS MUCH AS MY DAD DID.

I did have family not come that there was a question as to whether or not they were not coming because of the game. I was all whatever but it bugged my mother to no end.

At the end of the day, the thing I don't get about missing the wedding of a close family member for this game particularly is this: you are an Alabama fan, and "your team" has played in this game almost every year for the past decade. If you were a Vandy or an MSU fan and they were playing, feel free to ask me if I can set up a tv or something in a corner for you- I get it, it's a once-in-lifetime kind of game. But Alabama? Really? Aren't you used to this by now?

Is this supposed to be sarcasm? Because that sounds neither adorable nor entertaining.

  • I'd understand if you skipped my wedding to see Les Mis ;-)

I love, love, love Les Mis. Give me tickets and I'll skip my own wedding to see it (no, not really, but I love Les Mis. Did I remember to mention that I love Les Mis? ;-)
  • No it's not sarcastic. Basically the entire table was completely jocular about it, and this guy was one of the least "sporty" attendants, so it was mostly me jokingly shaking a finger at him and going "you! You are the only person that's checking the score!" But we were all kind of kidding around about it, like "of all the people... For shame!" (And I realize this is almost completely a tonal thing I can't convey over the internet but it really was a funny moment of everyone kind of being surprised that this person was the one that cared because he had never really vocalized an interest in the past in football). So yes, it was entertaining, mostly because you've got these wonderful expressions of everyone at the table laughing as I mock-lecture someone on their newly acquired football enthusiasm.
