I schedule town cars in NYC. They are basically the same price and way more comfortable. Plus, they aren't metered, so you don't get screwed when you get stuck in traffic like you do in a metered cab.
OP, we used Hy's Limo for our car service from Wallingford to JFK and then back to New Haven area and paid less than $700 (maybe around $500?) it was worth the money.
Did you try CTLimo for a shuttle? I used to take their shuttle from Sports Haven in New Haven to JFK.
Why don't you try those airport shuttles? They work at all hours of the day/night. My family would use the, when we'd go on family trips and my dad sure as hell wasn't paying to store the car in the airport lot for a week or two. It was $100 for the four of us adults a few years ago from jfk with an hr drive out to long island.
I'd look into that. You know, the white shuttles with green and orange writing? No clue of the actual name though.

Yes, we called CT Limo, but they did not have a van leaving when we needed it to the evening of our wedding. The problem is that there is an international airport about 15 mins from me, so all of the shuttles really go there and only a handful to JFK from Hartford. JFK was the only place that had direct flights though and it was significantly cheaper. We'll most likely just wind up driving and parking in long term parking and call it a day. We were hoping to avoid having to drive but it just seems to make most sense at this point.

1. Hop a train into NYC or somewhere closer to the airport then get a cab or whatever
2. Drive in yourself
3. Get a relative/friend to drive you in
I don't think I'd personally ask anyone to drive me to an airport that's 4 hours round trip.
