Well this ought to be interesting

I'm the MOH in a wedding coming up in June. One of the bridesmaids is 19 years old....so for the bachelorette party we are going to dinner and an 18+ dance club. As a 30 year old OMH gee I can't wait to get hit on by 18 year old Justin Beiber wannabes and listen to terrible music all night. I haven't even been in a dance club since I was in college.

I text the 19 year old about the plans and she says "I'm so excited. I've never been to a club- do I need to buy a slutty dress?" hahahaha oh brother, I am so going to feel like this girl's mom at the party watching over her lol.

(Before anyone says why don't you plan something else- I definitely tried. But the other bridesmaid absolutely insisted that the bride wants it to be a club/bar where she can drink and dance. I hope she's right since there are a million other things we could do)

Re: Well this ought to be interesting

  • The last time I went to a bachelorette at a club I drank a LOT of booze to get through it.  On the plus side, it made my time in the club infinitely more tolerable.  On the minus side, I did not exactly have my wits about me when a fight in the club broke out at 1:30 AM and we had to get out fast for our safety.  I was also so hungover the next day that I was throwing up until 4 PM.  So there's that.

You're not a big drinker though, right?  So the booze-to-get-through-it strategy may not work for you.  I recommend gritting your teeth and enjoying the people watching as much as you can as an alternative.
  • At least there is alcohol, right?

    I quit drinking in 2008. I'm fucked.

Well the people watching alone should be pretty good entertainment.

Seriously. I'm so out of touch with that age group that it will be quite the experience to watch them and see what's "in style" now.

  • You tell that girl she needs to get the sluttiest dress.

She's 19. The window of having that absolutely perfect, legal, perky body is so damn small. Slut it up, grasshopper!

I've been to one club in my life.  I definitely bought the sluttiest club dress I could find.  And got schwasted and fell on my face.  That's what you do at clubs, right?

  • Ugh, sounds like fun fun fun! I haven't been to a club like that in over a decade.

My bachelorette is tomorrow and the guests range in age from 9 (my niece and "junior bridesmaid") to 41 (my sister and MOH) and also include two pregnant women. We're having dinner and then going to one of those paint clubs where you all make the same painting. Then if I'm not falling asleep (which is a serious "if" considering my strict 10pm bedtime) my sister will take my niece home and the rest of us will go out to a bar for a drink (or mocktail for the pregnant ladies). Seriously tame stuff for us old fogies with a 3rd grader, but I'm super excited!
  • @redheadbride15 That definitely sounds like my kind of night! Hope you have fun!!

I even suggested Dave & Busters because they have alcohol for the bride and at least I can play fucking skee-ball and air hockey. But no, that plan got the axe.

  • PS I'm going out to a bachelorette party next weekend. Dinner and dancing. Obviously no drinking! But I'm gonna slut up this baby bump and have fun!

So, what are you going to wear? ;-)

I'm in my mid 30's, married, and I'd LOVE to go out to a club and go dancing.  I love dancing.  Most of my old stomping grounds closed and I'm not sure where to go anymore, lol.
I'm only 24 but...my mom is going clubbing with me and some friends tonight. To a club. Lots of dancing will be had. And my mom is 40 and married.

My two favourite clubbing friends are 34 and 38 and they will dance until the club actually kicks them out...the fact that your MOM is 40 is kind of blowing my mind right now. Like, I know that it's not that uncommon and lots of people near my age have relatively young parents, but my mom is just about 60 and wears sweaters with little birdhouses on them.

When I go out dancing these days, though, I just wear black and skip the minidresses because they just result in spending all night turning down tchotchy dudes for drinks and dances and elbowing them out of my group all night. Unless it's a gay bar, in which case, all my party clothes come out because the ladies there generally take no for an answer and don't get all creeptacular.

Almost all of my friends' parents are at least in their late 40s, most are in their early 50s, I'm the rare bird with a mom who just turned 40. It always freaks people out when I'm like "Oh yeah my mom is 40" because I have friends in their late 30s...and even a few older than my mom.

My grandma just turned 56 or...57. We just had her birthday but that woman has been lying about her age since she was 30 (I mean 25). We went to dinner and she told the waiter she was celebrating her 40th birthday. She also likes to go clubbing. It's so weird having such a young family.

Oh lawdy. Your mom is only 5 years old than me. And younger than my husband.

I went to an 18+ dance club when I was 21. My younger friend wanted to go. It was awful. And they yelled at me for having a drink on the dance floor. Like legit stopped the music to say, "Girl in the red pants! No drinks on the floor!"

Anyway, us old people do still like to dance and have a good time. But not every weekend like in my 20s.

WUT. If you can't drink while you're dancing what is the effing point?

Legal age up here is 18 so I've never had this experience but it sounds terrible. On the other hand, EVERY bar up here has a pack of 18 year old boys in it, appearing behind you and trying to grind up on your backside while you're just trying to drink 14 vodka sodas and dance with your friends.

  • The last time I went to an 18+ club they had a fence, like legit a chain link fence, down the middle of the dance floor. One side was for anyone under 21 (but over 18) and anyone not drinking, the other side was for the 21+ who wanted to drink. It was weird.

We have an 18+ strip club here that kind of does the same thing, except the 18+ side is full nude and the 21+ side is topless only.
  • Sorry Jenna, I forgot you don't drink.

See now just the dancing part would be fine...like there's a little dive bar with a juke box in my town where it's fun to just go dance and sing, and there's only 3 old men sitting at the bar. That I'm down with. But an actual CLUB like bumping techno and strobe lights and packed in like sardines with 18 year olds?? Not so much hahah

Because the 21 plus side has alcohol. I've seen that before, an 18 plus club was fully nude but they didn't serve alcohol, and all the places that served alcohol were not fully nude.

ETA: I think it had something to do with the clientele getting more handsy if they drink too much.

Yep.  Can't have boobies and booze together, that would just be debauchery overload ;)

I don't know if this still exists, but at one point in Georgia, there were strip clubs that didn't sell booze so they could be fully nude, BUT you were allowed to bring in coolers with your own drinks.

That makes less sense to me. If you bring in your own booze, then who can cut you off if you've had too much to drink?
