Thanks everyone for chipping in your thoughts. I guess I am gonna kill those two ideas then. Looks like the safer bet will be going along with the registry.  maybe gift card is the easiest.......

Every bride/groom on the planet would appreciate cash and/or gift card (to a neutral place)

Do you really want to take a risk and have your gift be the the horrible one the bride/groom laugh about for decades??
  • I legit gave mugs with a picture of my face printed on it for Christmas gifts one year. No regrets.
  • Oh my god. I am laughing so hard right now. Between this and the "Dope As Fuck Denim and Diamonds" thread I am soooo entertained today!
  • You should get them custom bedding with your face on it.

I don't give a shit whose face is on that. If it's soft, give it to me. My only requirements for blankets is plushy warm softness. And cocoonability is a major plus.

    (Insert that Colbert gif here)
Ashley and I will stage a GTG specifically for taking a selfie for your wedding gift blanket.

If you play your cards right, you might get matching pillowcases.

  • OMG, I'm peeing about that blanket.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • I'm so glad I'm going to a wedding next month. That blanket is perfect. I know they'd love to look at my face every day.

OP - about the shoes. Why would you even think about buying a gift for a couple that obviously only one of them could wear. I mean, unless this couple somehow wear the same shoe size. How odd.

I'm not against custom shoes.... however, I dislike buying ANYTHING that I cannot try on first (or that has a good return policy). If the bride LOVES shoes the idea might be good, but what if they don't fit?? I know my shoe size, but it can vary between brands and the style of the shoe.

Also- shoes for the bride isn't the best wedding gift (as gifts should be for the couple).

No to the bobbleheads. I wouldn't want to keep something like that. I know what I look like.

I know you want to go "off the cuff" a bit- and that is fine, there is also a big difference between thinking "Custom bobble heads!! Oh, no? Ok, I'll just do a gift card when I know there's a perfectly good registry..." I would take cues from the registry, but since you have a generous budget, perhaps get them something that is similar to a registry item but from a fancier store, or buy them one of their registry gifts but get the higher end version. Or, if there is something you own that you LOVE and use often but they don't have on their registry, get them that (I'm still thinking kitchen/home items).

You could also do a gift card for a coupes massage or night at a hotel/ B&B.

  • could this be a troll post i smell fishy
  • Neither of these makes a good wedding gift, sorry.
  • I received a few wedding gifts that were not on the Registry. The best was a framed etching from Etsy of our city skyline. The others were some unique wine glasses.

They key to a good wedding gift is that it has to be for the couple (not just one member of the couple!), and it should fit their tastes. Most people would laugh at the idea of a bobble head, and then throw it away.
  • Zombie, guys.
