Which dress is better? I have no friends or family to help me :(

Hi everyone! I live in the east coast and my wedding and family/friends are all on the west coast. I need to decide on a dress! I have two pictures below. The first is a satin dallas marie by maggie sottero.  The second is an all lace Karena Royale wedding dress by Maggie Soterro. They both have the same belt. the lace one actually comes with its own sash but I was thinking of changing it to the all bling belt I am wearing. Please let me know which one you think is better...the lace or the satin? I have an outdoor ceremony/indoor reception in July. Ceremony starts at 11am, lunch reception around 1pm. Both of these dresses have not been altered at all.

Any help/opinions/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  • Lace one.

  • I think they're both beautiful. I would pick whichever one makes you feel the most confident.

  • They are both gorgeous so I don't think you can go wrong with either one. But I like the lace one more than the satin.

  • I love the satin.
  • I prefer the satin one.

  • They both look great on you so you really can't go wrong.  Did one kind of jump out of you when you put it on?  Which is more comfortable?  You say your wedding is outside in July, so which of the dresses is less heavy/hot?

But I am kind of leaning towards the lace one.

  • Another vote for the lace one.

  • I prefer the lace dress.
  • My vote goes to the satin dress. I love the ruching throughout the bodice.

  • This is a dilemma for me. I think the lace one would look more appropriate for a daytime wedding. But I REALLY love the satin one on you. Sorry, that probably wasn't much help!

  • I think both look lovely on you but I really like the satin.

  • I like the lace one. The lines are nicer and the satin one looks a bit wrinkly/unfinished.

They both look great on you, so I really have to echo Maggie that it's whatever was most comfortable - especially if you're outdoors in July.

  • Satin. I love the shape it gives you.

  • They both look great on you. I'm not sure I like the blingy belt as much with the lace dress; the satin dress showcases it, but the lace and the belt are competing. My personal preference is the lace dress, but my more objective advice is to wear the satin dress if you can't live without the belt, and to consider the weight and breathability of each before wearing it outdoors in summer.

  • I like the Satin!
  • personally I love lace, however I think the satin one does more for your body and gives you better shape
  • lace dress with blingy belt is way to much does not go. the satin dress looks much better on you shape wise and the belt matches.

if you decide to go with the lace dress then a different belt. like something with lace and maybe pearls or a pearl and swvarski crystals.

Ruched satin always looks like wrinkled bedsheets to me, so I'd vote lace.

    Ditto.

    Lace all the way.

  • Another vote for lace because I'm partial to lace and I'm also not big on the ruching look, but I agree with the PP that the belt is a little too much for that dress, especially because it looks like (hard to tell in the photo) there may also be some shiny beading mixed into the lace? It would look gorgeous with a simple satin ribbon.

But you can't go wrong with the other one too ;)
  • I think satin in July is going to feel awful. I vote lace. Aside from the difference in material, those dresses are pretty identical.

  • Lace looks best!

I'm a two dress bride for this reason! I'm getting married in July as well, and I fell in love with a satin dress and bought it without thinking (it was a sample so I took it home immediately). After getting it home and trying it on and loving it for 3 months or so, it dawned on me that Julys in Ohio can be really God awful in terms of heat and humidity. We are also having an outside ceremony, inside reception.  So I ended up buying a new, lighter dress.

I'd caution you to really really think about what the usual temperature is in July where you're getting married before jumping into the satin one. Both are lovely, but for comfort's sake I'd go with the lace every time.

I wore a satin dress in July (live in MD).  Our ceremony and reception were inside, but I was outside for an hour taking pictures.  Was it warm?  Yes.  Would it have been any cooler with a lace dress?  Eh, probably not.  I mean you are still in a long gown with many layers so regardless of it being lace or stain it will still be warm under that thing.  I think the only type of dress that would be less hot would be a flowy chiffon or taffeta with very little layers underneath.

  • I love lace, but I feel like the satin one flatters you more.  Maybe its the style of the lace dress I'm not liking.
