How do you choose a honeymoon spot!?!

I know this is a good problem to have, but I really have no idea how to choose from the spots that the travel agent is suggesting for us. All of them seem beautiful and pretty perfect for us. I'm just having a hard tmie deciding and FI really isn't too picky. He really just wants to go! =)

On a more serious note though, I really haven't traveled so I'm not confident in my vacation picking capabilities. Is there anything I should look out for?

a big factor for a lot of people is the amount of time it will take to get there. for us it didn't matter that our flight was going to be 9 hours but others want a 3-5 hour flight and will opt for the caribbean for that reason. aside from the honeymoon resort itself, what else are you looking to take in? do you want sports/activities, quiet walks on rural parts of an island? a cultural experience? if you think about those things and tell your travel agent he might be able to guide you better!

I think it just depends on what you guys want to do on your honeymoon.  Do you just want to relax on the beach the whole time?  Then perhaps go for something that is a packaged deal that provides drinks/food/etc. at a resort so you don't have to worry about that stuff.  If you want to relax on the beach, but also do some activities like snorkeling, diving, parasailing, then look for a location that is known for those things.  If you want to experience a new culture, try different food, or sightsee a bit, then try to pick something that is a bit more exotic and break up the honeymoon into two parts... sightseeing and relaxing.

I hope that is helping a bit!  We wanted to have it all -- we wanted a bit of sightseeing, eat great food, opportunity to practice our photography, diving, and relaxing so we went to Thailand and did half our trip in Bangkok and half on the Thai island of Koh Samui so it was a good balance.

At the end of the day, you'll have a great time whereever you go so just a pick a new place where neither of you have been and go for it.  What are your choices?

We knew we wanted to go for an all inclusive for our honeymoon so I looked at the reviews on tripadvisor of hotels in the areas we were interested in and picked one.  We ended up at Excellence Riviera Cancun and LOVED it!

We know that we want to go to the Riviera Maya, so we know the place.

Meghaks - I'm glad you said that b/c you pretty much hit the nail on the head. We want relaxation and to sightsee. So, I think we'll ask for specific places that have both. I want to be able to be within reach of a few different places too.

    Thanks all!

We also chose Riviera Maya because we wanted to be able to hang out on a beautiful beach, but also be able to do some fun excursions if we got tired of just relaxing.  Our trip was 8 days and we did 3 activities:  went to Xcaret, went to Chichen Itza and to a Ceynote, and rented a sailboat.  Of the three Xcaret was our least favorite but was still really good!  We both LOVED the Ceynote and the private sailboat cruise we took... rented a sailboat through Sailing Cancun just us and two guides.  They asked us what we wanted to do and we decided to snorkel and then visit Isla Mujeres for an hour.  It was awesome to have the whole boat to ourselves!

Our hotel was located in Puerto Morelos and I really liked the location.  It was close to a small town that had some restaurants to visit, close to Cancun and the airport with out being TOO close to Cancun, and also pretty close the the excursions.  Honestly though, there is so much to do there, that any hotel you chose will be fine.  Almost all of the excursions/activities include transportation from your hotel.  The only thing we did that didn't have transportation was the sailboat, and that was because it wasn't an organized tour.  You can also book excursions right through your hotel.

Since you already have the spot, check trip advisor and the honeymoon board to see what people have said about the hotels. It shouldn't be too hard from there, but I was the same way, it seemed like lots to choose from.

We chose ours after our wedding and did a last minute all inclusive to GR Solaris in Cancun.  We had a blast!

It was VERY affordable; great reviews online (a 4 star place our of 5).

booked through hotels.com (seemed to be the best value for the dollar and i looked at a lot of sites).

    A couple of benefits:
    -same time zone as Chicago
    -only 3.5 hour flight
    -EVERYWHERE took american $$
    -GR Solaris had AWESOME service
-Tons of stuff to do for tourist- but also easy to do nothing and relax if you want
    -Everyone speaks English
-I was told there was more to do in Cancun than Puerta Vallerta- the West Coast of Mexico

    :)

I dont think I read anyone metion this, but I would definitly check out the weather in different areas for the time of year that you are planning on going. Different areas have super different climates at different times of year (rainy/ry, hot/cool, etc)

So I would keep that in mind when deciding too! :)
