What is your go-to sick food?

I have progressively gone from sore throat to death today. I am on my way home early and am going to grab some Pho on the way home to help. What's everyone else's go-to sick food?

Re: What is your go-to sick food?

  • Sweet carbs. So pancakes, waffles, pillsbury cinnamon rolls in the tube or a toasted bagel with butter and cinnamon sugar.

  • OMG I was just talking about Pho to someone and want it SO BAD now! Bonus points for actually getting something good for your immune system. :-p

With Maggie on the carbs, but not necessarily always sweet. I ate a lot of French toast when I had the preg pukes, plus plain bagels with cream cheese, Kix, etc. For normal run of the mill sickness, boxed mac and cheese.

My dad used to make a mean hot toddy. I usually drink hot tea or Sprite/7-up when I'm sick. Club crackers, toast, and chicken noodle soup of course.

    Edited to add: ice cream

  • That sucks! Hope you feel better,

If I have a sore throat/cough, I like mac and cheese or something like that. If it's anything else ie flu like symptoms then I don't have much of an appetite.

  • For sore throat I want all the ice cream.

Last time I was nauseous and cautiously starting to eat again, I wanted chicken nuggets for some reason.

    Hangover=pizza and gatorade.

  • Sorry you're in rough shape :/

Miso soup (or homemade chicken broth), apple sauce, coconut sorbet (cold, dairy-free, and low acidity), and grits with milk and honey.

I love me some biscuits and gravy. I made that yesterday. Also: ramen. Cheap-ass, fakey-chicken-flavor, 17-cent ramen. In a cup, not a bowl. We failed to get that when we went grocery shopping this weekend (Winn Dixie didn't have Maruchan Chicken Flavor?!), and I was extremely disappointed in us at lunch yesterday. And Dibs, back when they were easy to find.

Don't give me healthy shit when I'm sick. Stuff me with craptastic food.

  • Dahl. It's what I want whenever I'm fighting something. The only thing is if I'm super stuffed, I can't taste all the spices, only cardamon.
  • Box mac n cheese, grilled cheese or fast food (specifically chicken nuggets and french fries).

A chocolate milkshake made with Bluebell Dutch Chocolate ice cream is heaven in a cup. I'm willing to forgive this though because you're in BC (eta... I think? Went to confirm and you don't have a location) and I'm not even sure Bluebell exists up there.

Dammit now I'm stopping to get a half-gallon of Dutch Chocolate ice cream tonight on the way home.

Blue Bell just recalled ALL of its ice cream due to listeria concerns so you probably won't find any :(
  • Tomato Soup and Grilled Cheese.

  • OMG PHO.

if there was a place near me to get Pho, that would be my go-to sick food.

General sick me goes for ramen noodles or kraft mac and cheese.

Sore thoat sick me wants soda, smoothies and and milkshakes.

  • Popsicles (I like the original flavors or banana), Lipton noodle soup packets, and boiling water with plenty of honey and lemon juice.

Sorry you're feeling crappy.  I had strep a few weeks ago, and the above foods really helped bring me some relief!

@hellosweetie2015 we can't eat bluebell right now anyway :(  Their banana pudding ice cream is one my favorite things ever.

  • Oohhh yes McDonald's chicken nuggets. Yes yes yes. Only when I feel too gross to realize how gross THEY are.

Yup. Recalled every single product and shut down the factories. Five people died and quite a few got very sick.

I'm actually outside of Chicago. I don't believe we can find Blue Bell here. I've heard about it though. But whenever I go to an ice cream place and ask for a chocolate shake with vanilla ice cream they look at me weird. It's way better with the syrup.

  • A can of sprite, condensed Campbell's chicken soup and saltines. Typically an entire package of saltines.

  • I have to go all the way to Chinatown for Pho but it's so good.

It depends on what kind of sick I am. For the cold or flu, I usually have soup and grilled cheese.  I had food poisoning a few weeks ago and that was strictly Gatorade and crackers.

  • Sorry you are not feeling well.

I don't have a go-to-sick food.    DH likes the boxed Lipton chicken soup with no chicken with extra noodles. I guess his mom made it for him.   He loves that stuff when he is sick.  I have to make sure the extra noodles are in house just in case.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

You can get Pho all over the place where I live. The joys of having an International College, a college and a University in a small city.
  • I am just getting over what you have OP. Started with a nasty sore throat and got progressively worse. With the sore throat, I swear by spoonfuls of honey.. it's thick and coats your throat and it seriously helps.

Then I need some hot and sour soup from the local Chinese restaurant and some ginger ale on ice.

  • What about comfort foods? Like those foods you ate growing up that you will get when you have a really bad day and you want something familiar to make you feel better?

That's horrible. I knew there were recalls going on, but the last I'd heard it was in, like, the ice cream sandwiches and stuff. I didn't know that the whole entire company was essentially shut down.
