Spinoff: Talk to me about your tattoos!

I've been pondering over the past year about getting a very small one on the outside of my wrist. I'd want to be able to cover it up with a watch if I ever wear shorter sleeves at work. I'm curious about everyone's experience!

Do you have any tattoos? Where? What are they? I want to knowwwww!

I know this is unpopular but I am getting H's initials in my inner wrist and he is getting my birth date and our son's birth date on his back.

We are going in a few weeks. I am so excited.

ETA: I will have to keep my wrist tattoo completely covered once I get it. My company is very old school.

  • I have a small black, 3-inch tattoo below my belly button. It's my zodiac sign. I got it when I was 18.

Guess how many people's immediate reaction was, "But what if you get pregnant??"
Um... no one's seeing that part of my body when I'm pregnant except my husband, thanks. And now that it's 14 years later and I have a husband, I can confirm that he does not care.

I've wanted a white ink tattoo forever. Those look so cool to me. But I don't know what or where I'd put one.

    I'm pretty basic. Lol.

I am toying with getting my tattoo in white ink. But I am worried it will look like a scar and not a tattoo.

  • I'm not a fan of tattoos.  Just not my cup of tea.  H doesn't have any tattoos either but has been talking about getting one for a friend he lost for quite some time.

My Mom got a tattoo about 4 years ago on her lower back (a "M" initial with some flowers for her first grandchild).  I was shocked that she got one because that is just so not like my Mom.

The only tattoos that my sister got were when she had her eyebrows tattooed in for her wedding 8 years ago.

  • I have four (two on my ankles, one on my calf, and one on my shoulder blade) I am thinking about getting a quarter sleeve. Something like the picture but with more flowers. I really like the black outline flowers.

  • I have a claddagh on my foot,
a star on each side of my heel,
a shamrock on my right wrist,
a raven on the inside of my left elbow,
a line of stars down my right shoulder blade,
a big hot air balloon on the back of my left arm,
my best friend's initials in Hebrew (he died) on the side of my back,
there used to be a shooting star on my hip which is now covered by twisted branches, flowers (each type of flower represents a different county I've traveled to) and birds (each bird represents a woman in my family)

I think that's it. If I remember any others I'll let you know. They can all be covered by normal clothes and shoes. When I wear t-shirts obviously the ones on my arms show, but if I didn't want them to ever show I wouldn't have gotten them at all. The vice president of our company told me he thinks they're really cool, so it's not like I can't show them at work.

  • I've never been able to decide on anything I want permanently on my body. I always have ideas and then in a few years and I'm like "man, really glad I didn't end up doing that."

I kind of envy the boldness of people who know exactly what they want to the point of being cool with that choice forever.

None as of yet, but I'd like to have my cat's paw print on my ankle area as well as a gladiola flower and/or cardinal somewhere and to look like an oil painting.
ETA  My GF has a wrist tattoo with a heart and rainbow.  She wants a big Disney villains piece, a bear, and more in the future.

  • I only came to this thread in hopes of seeing Ashley's boobs.

My boobs are totally in the other thread now :)

  • So far I have flames up both of my sides, hip to nip level.  I have chrome mudflap girls on both my hips.  I have a pinup on each side of my back, Lady Justice and a farmer on a bale of hay (both are probably 10-12 inches tall).  I have a black and gray ribbon on my sternum, a bunch of stars on the front of my right hip and a feather and shamrock on the front of my left hip.  I also have a tramp stamp of a sun.  I think that's everything for now.

    DH has none!

This is exactly how I feel. This kind of thing I way over think.
  • I have a bunch and so does H. We're actually going on Wednesday to get new ones!

I have a ship on the waves on my right arm with swallows underneath it - goes from my shoulder almost down to my elbow. I plan on adding a mermaid on the inside of my arm but I'm too much of a baby to do it quite yet (the pain!).

On my left arm I have "Love is enough" with a tiny bird. I plan on covering that up in the next few years with flowers that go from my left shoulder down to my elbow.

I have two lines from an Emily Dickinson poem on my left rib cage and three stars on my hip. The stars will also be covered up one day (first tattoo I ever got and it looks shitty now).

Next week I am getting a huge vintage hot air balloon on my right shoulder/back - fits the vintage theme I have going on my right arm. H is finally getting the rest of his full sleeve filled in.

My inlaws are completedly covered in tattoos - both have full sleeves, full backs, pieces on their chests and legs. H and I want to be that covered someday. Their work is beautiful.

I have two. I was raised Jewish and so the idea of getting a tattoo always seemed like a moot point for me, but in college I saw a lot of Jewish friends getting tattoos and when I found a design I loved I decided to get it. I am incredibly obsessed with the Haunted Mansion at Disney World, for a lot of reasons I won't gush about here. But anyway, this is my first tattoo:

It's the before and after of one of the changing portraits.

My second tattoo I got about two years ago. My stepmother (married to my mom) won a radio contest where the prize was a gift certificate to a tattoo parlor, and since she didn't want a tattoo she gave it to me, which my mom wasn't too happy about, lol. Anyway, I decided to get a swiss army knife. I was about to finish grad school, and the experience had really been transformative for me. We had adopted the knife as our class logo, and one of the girls in our class actually drew one that was mostly writing utensils, so that's the one I got. This one is on the outside of my right leg, just under the knee.

This is me.  I also have a hard time coming up with something visual to represent what I would like to tattoo, so I figure it's a good choice to forgo getting one.  If I ever get one it will be hidden because a lot of the places I've looked at for future jobs have pretty conservative policies.

  • I don't have any. I always toyed with the idea but could never commit.

My mum got one on her 50th. She got a rose in my parents wedding colours with their initials designed into the stem and leaves. (It was also their 30th wedding anniversary that year). It was so sweet and unexpected that she did that.

FI is in the process of removing a tattoo (An unfortunate permanent reminder of an ex-fiancee), and the cost of getting removed as well as the process has definitely put getting tattoos on the backburner for me.

  • I'm liking this thread! Ladies I want to see the tats!

I have a lotus flower on my ribs and a vine that wraps around it from bottom boob to hip down my side with my parent's initials. Two forget me not flowers on my shoulder blade with fines/leaves that matches my mom's that she got at 60 because she is a bad A. And my favorite is my bar code on my foot, the numbers are the date my parents took me home, I'm adopted and my dad calls me his "store bought kid".

I want to add flowers to represent countries I have been in with small dates to my back tattoo, just have to make the trip to where I grew up because I don't cheat on my tattoo artist!

  • For @lovemesomemonster

Pic only shows my arm tattoos - I don't have any good pics of the others. I'm definitely going to AW the new one I'm getting next week once it's healed.

  • You can kind of see the ones on my back in this photo of a HORRIBLE sunburn. I guess the flower one ISNT as huge as it looks to me in the mirror lol
  • Wrist tattoo semi-visible here
  • @cupcait927 and @ashley8918 beautiful artwork! I love seeing what other people get, it's a very personal thing a tattoo and it's fascinating to me!

  • I have "Carpe Diem" on my side.

I really want to get a second tattoo. It will be in the middle of my back, probably around where my bra hooks. I need it to be easily hidden for work (and I go to lots of formal work events) so it makes sense. I'm still contemplating other locations as well. If anyone has ideas, please share!

I want something like the wrist tattoo but with but with the colors and flowers of the arm tattoo. I'm also in love with the foot. I took my idea to a tattoo artist who got great reviews online but hated her sketch. When I tried to discuss options she got pissy (I was super-nice but was told that "she's an artist who doesn't compromise on her vision"). Needless to say, I'm searching for someone who can do it.
