Spinoff: What's in your carry-on?

2»

Re: Spinoff: What's in your carry-on?

  • I always check a bag, so my carry-on is for electronics/stuff I need on the plane.

I always have my laptop, chargers AND EXTENSION CORD, and I bring a large towel to use either as a neck pillow or a blanket if I need it.

  • - Ear Planes (they help with pressurization and if you are sick or get sick, they will be a lifesaver!  Only about $7 for a pair at CVS/Target, they're in the aisle next to ear plugs)
    - Noise canceling headphones (seriously worth the $300 if you fly often)
    - Xanax (fear of flying - life changing!)
    - Itinerary and all the paperwork needed for trip
    - All the typical stuff already mentioned (kindle, snacks, medicines for headache, upset stomach, etc).
  • I just flew Vancouver to Toronto for a week long conference. I didn't check any bags, so my carry on has a change of casual clothes, enough socks and underwear for a week, PJs, a cocktail dress with shoes and accessories, a 3 piece suit with 2 tops, all my toiletries and my normal carry on stuff. My parents couldn't believe I had so little luggage and so much stuff.

When I check a bag I usually still carry on I usually have my iPad or laptop, scarft, a book, earbuds, medications, glasses, wallet, snacks, water bottle, travel itinerary, phone, chargers, chapstick, hand lotion, tissues, gum, a change of clothes, toothbrush and toothpaste, and a few other things depending on the destination. Tropical location? I'll have my swimsuit and sunscreen in my carry one. Colder location? I'll have an extra sweater, gloves and a toque.

Interesting. I've never heard of these

  • @arrippa My pillow is memory foam and I gotta be honest- it's not good. I hardly ever bring it because it's like too big and practically hold my head upright. Maybe someone else has tried the ones that are more like bean bags inside?

I pack all the same general stuff as everyone else. Entertainment, food, documents.

I don't like my pillow either :( It's too... fluffy or something. Too big for my neck. I'm thinking of wasting a bunch of money to get one of the super comfy ones they always have in the airport stores. No idea what brand they are but I've always wanted one of those.

  • I have a bean bag pillow and it's acceptable. Got me overseas overnight all right.
If I check a bag and have a true carry-on, it's my purse contents plus:
    Kindle
    Electronics chargers
    Camera
    Toiletries including toothbrush and deodorant

Can I just say I'm so glad I jumped on the e-reader bandwagon?? It's a long story but I recently spent about 24 hours traveling between train, plane time and airport waiting. I was happy as a tired clam with several new books loaded. No weight of 3-4 paperbacks like I used to pack.

Ibuprofen, books and magazines, pen + paper, iPod + headphones, toothbrush + toothpaste, clean change of clothes + underwear, snacks (granola bars + Skittles are my faves), hand lotion, sunglasses, Purell, a sweater or pashmina, chapstick, phone, and phone charger.

Of course, that's in addition to my wallet and any travel documents + identification.

  • This thread is awesome! Like looking into someone's purse, so fascinating! Depends on the type of trip for me so here goes:

International Work trip (10+hr flights involved)
    -laptop
    -water
    -snacks
    -glasses
-all chargers (phone, camera, laptop etc.)
    -pens, paper
    -word search
    -book
    -ipod
    -noise cancelling headphones
    -small blanket
    -neck pillow
    -slippers

Non work long flight looks the same minus the laptop, it gets switched out for the ipad

    Short domestic flights
    -ipod
    -headphones
    -word search
    -book
    -laptop if needed for trip

For all travel I have a very small baggallini purse that already is stocked with the minimum you need in it, all I do is switched ID and CC and I'm good to go.

The slippers are such a good idea! I hadn't even thought of that

I am always freaking cold and it's so nice for those 10+hr flights to slip off the shoes and pull those on to try to sleep :) Yeah, I always get a window seat for long flights, I'm THAT girl, a nester when I'm settling in for that long!

That's me, too. 100%. Usually my shoes are the firs thing to go (if it's a long flight) and then I get all the stuff around me situated so I'm in a total nest. If anyone offers to put my stuff in the over-head bin I get so offended. It's like "How could you ask such a thing?! That's part of my nest! Don't touch it!" lol

Mine is inflatable. It's not the most comfortable thing in the world, but if I blow it up really full it at least provides a good amount of support, and it doesn't take up any room. I really just need a second one to keep my head upright, I think.

I was getting over a cold on a flight about 5 years ago.  As we were landing, the pressure felt like someone was stabbing ice picks in my ears.  It hurt so bad and I honestly thought I was going to die.  Needless to say, I don't travel without them anymore!
  • @larrygaga even if you're going somewhere tropical for your honeymoon, take a hoodie for the flight. It gets cold!

I'm not usually an overhead bin user. I don't like lugging a suitcase around the airport, so all the stuff I mentioned just goes in my backpack, which stays under the seat in front of me. Suitcase gets checked and someone else can handle it for me.
