***Today's Nestie of the Day***

Today's Nestie of the Day is Jen (AKWinterBride) who had an amazing Hawaiian wedding last July. Congrats to Jen and her hubby, and happy to hear that married life is treating you well!!

(If you are an old married interested in being featured on Nestie of the Day, email me at loramarie03 at gmail.com.)

1. Give us your name and your hubby's name.

Jen and Clayton

2. What is your Knottie/Nestie name?

AKWinterBride

3. When did you get married?

July 5, 2011

4. What location did you choose, and what final grade would you give it?

Olowalu Plantation House, Maui I would give it an A+, seriously the most gorgeous venue I have ever seen!

5. What made that location better than all the others you looked at?

It's old Hawaiian without being kitschy, right on the beach without being sandy, and the grounds were absolutely to die for.

6. What was your favorite part of your wedding?

Being in Maui with all of our friends and family, it was a once in a lifetime experience!

7. Was there anything your guests LOVED, or are maybe STILL talking about?

Not to sound like a bragger, but everything!  Our guests noticed all of the little touches that I included such as the mini-programs, the local sodas, fans, personalized drink umbrellas, etc.  I was so happy everyone noticed all of our details, and I heard so many 'you guys just thought of EVERYTHING' comments which made all of the months of planning so worth it!!

8. Everyone has one..... what was your wedding day snag?

Seriously - nothing.  Everything was perfect!

9. Did the people who initially opposed your DW ever change their minds and decide to attend? Give us details

Yeah, I didn't play this game.  If anyone had any issues with us having a DW then they were welcome to stay home!  Everyone was more than thrilled to have an excuse to go to Maui though.  Bottom line, this was OUR day, no one else's and I didn't really care what anyone thought about it.

10. Were there any "non-negotiable" things you HAD to have at your wedding?

A great photographer, DJ, and videographer.  We have over a thousand amazing photos, our DJ had everyone dancing all night, and our video is just priceless.  I am so glad we didn't skimp on any of those.  The day goes by so, so fast, I am so grateful I can pop in a DVD and see and hear all of our loved ones for years to come!

11. Did you have any trouble flying with your dress? How did you do it?

No, I flew Alaska Airlines and then Hawaiian Air from Honolulu to Maui and they were super great.  My dress was in first class for the long flight (and AK Air called me and another bride to attention and gave us lei's) and in an entire overhead compartment for the short flight.  All in all, it was easy to travel with it.

12. What was your favorite thing about the time you spent on the DW board?

The girls I met.  I would never have imagined that I would meet such an amazing group of women from all over the US and become such good friends with them.

13. What advice would you give to those who are just starting to plan their DW's?

Do NOT let anyone make you think that your wedding is about them.  I see so many girls on the boards fretting because Great Aunt Helen is having a fit cause they are having a DW.  Well guess what, Great Aunt Helen doesn't matter!!  This day is about you and your fiance joining in marriage - it is not about  anyone else and you should have the day that you want, not a day that is convenient for everyone.  I would hate to have anyone look back at their wedding day with regrets because they were busy trying to please everyone else.  Be selfish, this is one of the few days in life that you have that luxury!

14. What advice would you give to those whose big day is almost here?

Relax, and take it all in!  I can't stress enough how fast this day will go by, enjoy every second!

15. Be honest.... what did you forget at home?

Nothing, I was crazy prepared!

16. Did it matter?

 Nope!

17. Anything you wish you HADN'T done?

Again, nope - I am still so in love with our wedding, I can't imagine not liking any part of it!

18. Do you regret doing a DW?

Never, every wedding that I see locally makes me even happier that we went the DW route.

19. Did you have a separate honeymoon after you left your DW location?

Well, we went to Oahu 3 days after our wedding for a week - so we were still in Hawaii but seperate from the rest of our family.

20. How did you keep your guests from wanting to spend all their time with you after the wedding?   Honestly, our guests were excited to explore Maui and have a vacation - no one was trying to take up our time, we actually had to make dates with people in order to spend time with them - which was fabulous!  Totally took the pressure off of us and we still got to spend time with our loved ones!

21. If you were going to do a "DW vow renewal" and money was no object, where would you go and what would it look like?

I would go back to Maui and would get re-married at either Olowalu or Haiku Mill.  I think this time I would just change up the decor a bit to have some different colors, etc.  Can you tell that I seriously loved our wedding??  :)

22. So... how's married life treating you? Was it difficult to adjust to being a wife?

Married life is great!!  Not much has changed, but we have been together for almost 6 years so that probably helps!

23. Anything else you think would be helpful for the DW Knotties to know/hear?

Enjoy your day!!  I can't stress enough how important it is that both you and your fiance are happy with what you are doing - no one else matters.  Do what YOU want to do and enjoy your day, you can worry about pleasing everyone else every other day of the year!!
