Love the royal baby's name! I've always loved Charlotte- it's gotten SO popular in recent years and I'm sure this is only going to increase its profile, but it's just a beautiful classic name on its own merit.
Related question: I think most people prefer picking names for their children that aren't super popular, so do any of you have names you love but you've been disappointed to see get popular lately?
Nope. I've never really understood this concern. I have a popular name, never necessarily trendy, but always toward the top of most common names. It's never upset me or bothered me that lots of people have my name.
I'm not going to not use a name just because others like it too.
H loves Noah for a boy. For a girl we like Claire or Ellie.
To answer my own question from earlier- Noah is one that still hurts for me :P. I LOVE that name but it has skyrocketed in popularity lately and I'm afraid of it becoming super trendy. I think it's currently the #1 boys name actually. I can deal with a certain amount of popularity, but a #1 name might be too much for me unfortunately . Especially since I don't really have any connection to it other than liking the way it sounds (I think that makes a big difference- if it was a family name or something I'd be more amenable to just "going for it").

Same. I don't get why it matters. This is such a Hipster concern, hahaha. "My baby's name is TOO MAINSTREAM!"
I love the princess's name! My niece's name is Charlotte, but we all call her Charlie. I think she likes Charlie more.
For me and FI, we were thinking Logan for either girl or boy. FI resembles the Wolverine/Hugh Jackman and that's his nickname from many people, so Logan (the Wolverine's actual name) would be personal to us.

Is it really? I had no idea. Darn!!!
It is. But it was only actually given to 0.904% of male births, so "popularity" is kind of relative.

I guess it doesn't matter too much. Probably won't be as popular when we're actually ready. Even then, I have a super popular 80's name and it's never bothered me. We haven't even talked about TTC yet but we already know it's a name we both like!
FI wanted a less common name because he has a SUPER common name. He said he hated growing up and never being called by his name... It was always his name with his last initial, or with a number after it, etc.
Maureen, Charlotte (Charlie for short), Clare (spelled that way for the county in Ireland), Catherine (but only if I could know that she would never, ever go by "Cathy")

It's all relative. You can always check naming trends in your state though. The SSA keeps track of baby names in the U.S., and tracks popularity in the states individually as well. So - take Noah and TX. It was the #3 most popular name of 2013 in TX, given to 1,853 boys. Then - Noah in AL is #7, given in 235 boys.

That is a family surname for me. I love the name, but have never thought of it as a first name. Maybe a second name.
What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests. Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
I'm a teacher so popularity is definitely a factor to me, if not actually major concern. It gets old teaching literally five different Megan's... I just don't want my kid to have to deal with that.
That being said, there is a difference between popular and trendy. Popular = classic, timeless, enduring. Trendy = super associated with one era/cultural phenomenon. I get much more nervous about trendy names than popular.
FI and I have already settled on Hollie Anne (with an E!) for a girl. Anne is my middle name (after Anne of Green Gables) and it sounds pretty cute, but is still grown up enough for when hypothetical girl baby is a grown up. I also liked the name Genevieve, my dad's mother's name, but it's a bit of a mouthful.
For a boy, FI is SET on the name Boone. I have no idea why, I think it's awful. I like the name Braden. Both these names are inspired by hockey players LOL We've got some work to do if we end up with a boy.
We're only having one child (unless it's twins or something) so let's hope for a girl!
Is your DH a Columbus Bluejackets fan by chance? We have a hockey player named Boone Jenner.

Whoa, cool! I've never seen it as a surname. It's definitely my favorite boy name. FI really loves it, too.
I need names that go with H's long Polish last name- short and simple, but not out of place either. I'm late to the party and just now reading Game of Thrones, and I really like the name Arya, and I like the character. Thought a good middle name to go with it could be Mae, after H's grandma.
Boys, no idea. Boy names are kind of boring. Liam is one of those names that I like that seems to have gotten really popular, too popular. IDK in my age group I seem to know a thousand Amandas and Daves and don't really want to pick one of those names.
A friend just had a baby and named her Faolyn, Fae for short. I like it and it really suits her.

I've heard there are a few "Katniss" girls out there already and enrolled in school...

my great-grandparents were from County Kerry.

Haha no we're Avalanche fans, but Boone Jenner is the player that inspired the name. "My" name Braden is Braden Holtby, the Capitals goalie. I guess the Avs don't have any inspiring names LOL
My sister has a daughter named Alice and a dog named Charlotte. She was happy that the royal family picked Charlotte instead of Alice because of how popular it would get.
Evelyn, Sophia, Olivia, Peyton, or Charlotte for a girl. ( kind of mad the royals went with that name)
Jackson, Nicholas, Avery, Carter, Philip,, or Oliver for boys
Mr. Gherkins for a pet Corgi
Oliver for a boy (Although there is a famous Oliver with our last name, and my cousin just named her dog Ollie - and it was her own grandfather I was borrowing the name from!)
I have a serious name addiction and I'm not afraid to admit that haha.
Right now my favourites for girls are: Poppy (probably the name we will eventually actually go with, since we both love it), Hadley, Aria, Noelle, Islam, Maeve, Avonlea, Bryony, and Ellery.
My favourite boy names are: Rowan, Bennett, Silas, Elliot, and Graham.
Clearly never going to produce enough offspring for all those names haha

Exactly. For example, William has been in the Top 20 for over 100 years. Contrast that with Justin, which peaked at #7 in 88 and has been slowly declining ever since.
Or Jessica, which was #1 in 88. It dropped out of the Top 10 in 2001 and is dropping quickly, where the lowest Elizabeth has been since 1900 is #26 in the forties.

My oldest son's name is James Philip (after his dad and grand dad). He goes by Philip. Nice, classic name but not super popular so he was the only Philip in his school. DD's name is Kayla Dianne (also my mom's middle name). She was the only Kayla I knew when we named her, but there are millions now. Youngest son's name is Walker (after a favorite uncle of my husband's). When I was younger I liked Cassandra for a girl.
I've had Charlotte as my go-to name if I have a daughter for years and years. So its popularity lately (and especially with the new princess) bugs me. I still would use it though. I'm honestly scared we'll only have boys. H has two brothers, as do I. I longed for a sister all my life and now that baby fever is hitting, I really REALLY want a daughter.
I also love Elizabeth (I highly approved of the baby's name today!), and Emily.
For a boy I like Jack or William. H's grandfather was a Jack, and his father John, so that would be loved if we went with it for a boy.
