Re: wearing leggings to work today... sorry not sorry

  • I am pro leggings as pants. I don't wear them myself but I don't see what the big deal is.

Eh, I've done it. If the following criteria apply:
    1. Its a non-clinical day (i.e. no patient contact whatsoever)
    2. They fit well, are black (or I guess could be other dark solid color), completely opaque, and good quality thick material
    3. Longer shirt
I am fine with it. But it really depends on your specific work environment the day you wear them.

My coworker wore leggings to work once. When she bent over, they were so sheer that I could see the little flowers on her underwear. I called her out on it (friendly, "hey, I can totally see your underwear") and she never wore those pants to work again. Problem solved.

The other day I had to tell a student worker that I could see her underwear through her leggings. They were light grey leggings and I could see the car design on her underwear. Whats more, her first reaction was to pull her t-shirt down to try and cover her butt and continue working. No, hun, go home.

  • I saw a hipster woman wearing cableknit tights (like the kind you had under school uniform as a child) as trousers. She had a tshirt tucked into them and a pair of dock martins on. There was no way these were leggings, they had the built-in panty!

Part of me wanted to go up to her and say "You do realise everyone can see your gusset??". But of course, I am British so I just quietly tutted and seethed...

I don't see leggings as pants as being acceptable in most work situations.  I hate seeing people in public running around without pants.  I don't want to find out whether or not you're wearing underwear.  I don't even know you.  If you're wearing leggings under a dress or even a tunic/long shirt that's one thing.  If you are wearing sheer tights as pants that is unacceptable (and unfortunately, increasingly common).

If you hate that, this will make you triple take: image

I had to look at it for longer than I am willing to admit before I figured out she wasn't trouser-less

  • I am anti legging as pants.  I only ever wear leggings as pants when I'm working out or when I'm just laying around the house in my workout tights because they're so comfy.

Me too.  I think I have one pair that I bought to wear under jeans at cold football games.  Otherwise, I'm not sure why it's hard to wear skinny jeans or pants with boots or ballet flats (which are the types of shoes I see most people wearing with leggings).

I do have a couple pairs of yoga pants I wear around the house.

I too own 0 leggings. I've just never felt the need to own a pair.
