I'm devastated.

All morning I've been looking forward to the awesome chicken and sesame noodles leftovers I brought to work. I go to warm them up and open the container. it's cauliflower. I grabbed the wrong fucking container. I'm so sad. I want to leave sick and enjoy my noodles on my couch.

What's bothering you more than it should?

Although, seeing as I can hear him coming from a mile away it does give me fair warning to run and hide...

  • My dad bought ice cream last night.

    He bought butter pecan.

He is the only person in the house who eats butter pecan ice cream.

Oh, and there's the eensy little fact that my baby sister is graduating high school tomorrow and I am going to be a MESS.

My little plan to run to the SS office and start the name change process has derailed because I need my parent's SS numbers. And they're out of the country. Boo. Now I probably have to take more time off to do it some other day.

My J.Crew order hasn't shipped yet and I ordered it on Monday.

I ate my lunch at 11.

  • I need to go to the post office to weigh our wedding invitations and buy postage, but a partner just emailed me that he'd call me "shortly" about an assignment I just did for him. So I feel like I can't go to the post office until after he calls me. BUT I JUST WANT TO BUY PRETTY STAMPS RIGHT NOW!

Ugh! Waiting for shipment is the worst! I ordered a new camera on the 1st. Tracking initially said it would be here tomorrow. Now it's saying Monday!

Wait is this true? I remember reading on the SS site that you only need their numbers if there's some other stipulation that I can't remember right now cuz no sleep.

I could be wrong, cuz I found everything on their site to be really confusing. But it seemed like if you're a US citizen with a current SS card and you're using a marriage license just to change your legal name as it's listed on your SS card, then you don't need your parents' numbers.

@lolo883 I love the new sig! So cute!

I swore to myself that when the semester was over, I'd spend an hour each day cleaning the house to get caught up. Now I'm mad that it isn't cleaning itself because I'd really rather sit and watch Netflix.

No idea, but if anyone can help that would be great!

It seems stupid to me, because I already have a card and everything. But the form they told me to print has it on there and it only says to leave the numbers off if your parents don't have SS numbers or if it they are unknown. And while I don't know the numbers, I don't think they count as unknown just because I have to ask.

  • I got an iced coffee with skim milk at lunch, and now I can't tell if there's actually any milk in there.  It's a little cloudy, so I guess so.  But that's what I get for trying to be good and ordering it with Splenda and skim milk instead of sugar and cream.

Here, on the application the spot to put your mom's ssn has you refer back to instructions 9b, which say this:

9.B., 10.B. If you are applying for an original Social Security card for a child under age 18, you MUST
show the parents' Social Security numbers unless the parent was never assigned a Social Security
number. If the number is not known and you cannot obtain it, check the “unknown” box.

This is what made me think it wasn't necessary, but again, I could be totally wrong.

  • I ordered a dress from Modcloth yesterday and paid $14 express shipping. They promised it would be here within 2-3 days of ordering, but it hasn't shipped yet. If it isn't here by Friday I have to go to an actual store to find a dress for our Saturday pre-wedding/engagement shoot.

I also have to go get a haircut at lunch. I hate having to do things during my lunch hour.

  • @anjemon I'm like 98% sure that you do not need the SSN of your parents for your own social security card, since you are over the age of 18. The SS office I went to didn't even ask me for the paperwork I had printed and filled out - I just had to answer a couple of questions, show them my marriage certificate and sign a sheet of paper. They didn't even ask me for my ID, which actually freaked me out a little bit. It was actually the easiest process out of all the different places I had to change my name.

This is very concerning. . . and why NO ONE should ever require our SSN on any type of form.  It's NOT meant to be an identifier, and when someone gets ahold of your SSN you are so fucked.

@novella1186 and @cupcait927 Awesome! You all are probably right and I was overthinking things. I will attempt the change on Friday (when I have to go downtown to get my hair cut anyways). Once I've done that I can do my driver's liscense next week and then get the rest of it started. I'm looking forward to actually being Mrs. Hislastname and out of the weirdness of "technically it's Histlastname but all my information says Maidenname". Also having the correct address on stuff again.

I think you're good! I went and there was a box you could check that you didn't know their SSN.

  • well I am exhausted, have slept less than 15 hours in the past three days and I still have one more major test on Friday.

It was very alarming once all was said and done. If someone had gotten ahold of my marriage license and knew very basic info about me (mother's maiden name, father's birthdate, city I was born), they could've changed my name without me knowing and had the new card sent to a different address (they also asked if I needed to change my address while I was there). I couldn't believe I wasn't asked for any type of ID or required to produce any paperwork, other than my marriage license. This was a few months ago and I think I should still probably call and express my concern to the office.
