  • Well she told me that the elevator is too old to fix, and that her repairman won't do it. Which means the elevator is not even an option.

Another sweet thing that happened is I have no idea where the contract is. My FI likes to reorganize my things and hasn't emailed me back where he put it. Might have gone right into the garbage. I could choke someone right now.

My FMIl and I both cited the ADA, and will get in touch with the local representative if she tries to fight it. Oh, believe me, you don't get run over by electric wheelchairs without knowing the rights that apply to them.

Can you ask your venue to email/fax you another copy of the contract under the guise that you just wanted to double check the final payment amount or something?

Then I'd take that contract to a lawyer and see what your options are.

Is there another entrance to the building, even a service entrance, that would somehow allow your disabled guests access to the hall w/o having to climb stairs?  Is there a service elevator that can be used?  If you have a DJ or caterers, they might also need elevator access for their equipment and food, so this issue could be bigger than just a few guests needing access. . . which that might further incentivize your venue to solve the issue.  I don't mean to sound like I'm downplaying the needs of your guests.

Is the venue going after the DJ that broke the elevator for damages?  Can you?
Or, when FMIL calls to deal with the venue, have her demand a copy of the contract? That way they don't know you don't have one.

I'm sure they're not supposed to give that out to someone whose name isn't on it, but when my mom got crazy about my wedding she went behind my back and called my vendors to get payment info and details, and not one vendor refused to give her info and show her/send her contracts, even though she wasn't on them. Her grand scheme was to try to pay for vendors since I wouldn't accept my parents' money for anything. But she got found out when she saw my number written on the florist's contract, thought it was the florist's number, and called ME saying "Hi this is Novella's mom and I need final payment info on her contract blah blah blah." Um nice try mom. When I told her it was me, she thought I was lying. AND I've had the same cell number for 13 years and she didn't recognize it. Anyway.

She should be able to get a copy for you.

HOLY SHIT. This is not real life!!

  • Wow, that is so, so terrible. I'm so glad your FMIL is helping you out and taking the reins on that.

I hope all works out as it should, and very soon!!!

    Anniversary
  • Yay.

I had paper lanterns.    I have 2/3 ivory. 1/3 brown.  White's were 10 inch, Browns 12 inch.   I loved the way they looked.

  • Where did you get them? I need to get to a party store or something. The ones on amazon are expensive and weird colored.

  • I'm.....drunk. so. disclaimer.

I had some paper lanterns in the tent, don't have any good pics of the paper lantersn, so I'll attach a couple. I also had rented a sofa, love seat and coffee table for outdoors that was full of people all night

We got them from the rental place. (we rented everything)  Remember I was living in the islands and the wedding was OOT for everyone.  So for convenience sake we paid more.

Honestly the lanterns didn't cost much. They hanging of them did.  We were required by the tent company to have profession hang them.  :(

So wait does broken elevator lady also own the B&B space or did she just work out a deal with the B&B?
  • I love the flying lanterns ><

She owns both and is in charge of the catering.

not really. It's not like they degrade upon landing.    It's still trash until they do.

  • Outdoor weddings also call for a sparkler send off.  My venue won't allow anything fire related so I don't get to do it, but if you can, do it!

  • Oh maybe I won't do the lantern thing then. Or just do one for FI and I.

I'm thinking about sparklers too. How would I do that? I am staying at the B&B so I'll probably be the last one out helping to clean, and then I'll go upstairs to my room with my new husband!!

  • The wedding we went to over the weekend had heart shaped sparklers.    We left long before the exit, but took a few with us to be used at a later date.

My FI wants sparklers too bc he loves fireworks but I can't really see it since ceremony and reception are in same place. All I can see is doing a fake send off when it is finally dark
  • Or maybe we could just light them up as an activity while the photographer is still there?

  • Larry, our wedding was indoors/outdoors (ceremony was outdoors, reception was mostly indoors but there was stuff to do outside) in Michigan on May 2. So the weather was a huge risk, but it turned out perfect!

Just cuz I like to be prepared for everything, some stuff we had:
    • Outdoor games
    • Lots and lots and lots of ice water, iced tea and lemonade set up before the ceremony even started
    • A giant wicker basket from TJ Max full of cheap walmart blankets with a sign that said "cuddle up" (ok ok I know this is really cheesey but I came across the idea on Etsy and I really liked it)
    • A bonfire (the venue sets this up for us so we didn't have to worry about it. The bonfire site was down this cute little path with benches around it, and a lot of people ended up hanging out out there. It became the official site of vodka-redbull shots lol)
    • Lanterns and string lights (looked so cool when the sun started going down!)
    • Rented vintage furniture and set up a "living room" (couches, chairs, coffee tables, etc). This area was a big hit.
That's all I can think of right now, but I hope it helped :)

  • Thank you! I've been to three outdoor labor day weekend weddings and it rained every single time! They were also rude weddings so I like to try and pretend that it always rains on a rude bride!

  • I'm also anti-flying lanterns. Every time I've seen them sent off someone nearly caught on fire. Last time, it was the bride. In addition to highly flammable hairspray and synthetic fabrics, they can land on roofs or dry brush and start fires too.

  • Okay, no lanterns I promise!!!

When those first became a big thing, we had them at my grandma's lake house for the 4th of July. We set off fireworks from the end of the pier so they go out over the water, and it's so cool to see all the fireworks going off from all around the entire lake. It's a big thing for us.

    However, those lanterns? Bad.

The last time we sent one off, the air was totally still and it seemed perfect. But instead of drifting over the lake, it went backwards, and got caught in a tree. We were sure the tree was catching on fire. Somehow it freed itself and drifted off again, then rested on someone's roof for a minute. It was fucking terrifying. It left the roof, but my cousin-- who knew the area really well-- was sure that thing was headed straight for a farm field. We nixed the lantern thing after that.
