Why White? WHERE'S THE RED?!?!

Not very interested in having a white (or any variation thereof) dress. I've seen a bunch of white that I like, but would LOVE in the right shade of RED. Designers need to come out with more red ones. Otherwise, this site is useless to me.

Re: Why White? WHERE'S THE RED?!?!

• Umm...sorry about that?

Go to prom dress stores? Find someone who cares?

So we're useless to you because wedding dress designers don't make red dresses? Aren't you a peach.

You won't make it long around here with an attitude like that.

Check out the Offbeat Weddings board under "Wedding Theme Boards" to the left of the screen
<----

But I'd suggest straightening up your attitude first.
• 1) Sorry for being bitchy. I assumed you were some weird vendor because it's pretty unusual for the site (and thereby the people on it) to be called useless because designers don't make enough red dresses.

2) Duds! When did you become a mod!?
• I'd start by browsing long BM dresses and see which ones you like are available in red.

Or try websites like bluefly: http://www.bluefly.com/Red-Designer-Long-Evening-Dresses/_/N-1z140nnZfio/list.fly

You can also try browsing department stores' websites like in their evening gown sections and find dresses like this one:
http://www.neimanmarcus.com/store/catalog/prod.jhtml?itemId=prod136610059&parentId=cat35350732&masterId=cat000131&index=55&cmCat=cat000000cat000001cat17740747cat000131cat35350732&isEditorial=false
• The idea of white for dresses has been around for a long time as a symbol of purity. In a time that everyone wasn't sleeping around like the whores and "studs" most people are today, wearing white was a thing of honor.

I will be proud to wear white on my wedding day.
Actually, I do know some good sites for red wedding dresses, since many of my husband's in-laws have heritage from India, where red wedding dresses are the tradition. I don't feel like helping anyone as rude as the op, though.

I don't blame you. Anyone with common sense knows that isn't how you go about asking for opinions or help locating something. Rudeness over something like locating a red wedding gown is un called for.
• You're right, designers should cater to the minority who want a specialty item rather than the bulk of customers. That's where all the money is after all. You should really call them and suggest this. I'm sure they'd be very receptive.

• Wow you ladies are cracking me up.
OP I think ladies of the Indian culture actually wear red on their wedding day traditionally. There has to be some place that specifically has red dresses, so it might be in your best interest to look into if Indian shops exist around you. I have no clue if they would but it's worth a shot. I mean, girls have to get these red dresses from somewhere cuz I have seen it before.

Also, prom season will be upon us shortly. You may be able to find some tasteful gowns.

I may add to please not call this useless, you may notice some of these ladies have posted THOUSANDS of comments, mostly to help brides like yourself and they are likely to have a great deal of experience.

1) It didn't originate as a purity thing. Originally, women wore the nicest dress that they had-which usually was not white, because it wasn't a "practical" color to own. Then Queen Victoria came along in 1840 and was all "Well, I'm the queen, so I need to do something really lavish and amazing", so she wore white as a display of royal wealth. After that, women wanted white dresses, not to appear "pure", but because they wanted to copy the queen. This trend also briefly died during the Great Depression, when once again, women took to wearing the nicest dress they happened to already own, because a white wedding dress was way too extravagant. White only became linked with purity in like the 1950s ... and even then, pre-marital sex happened. Quite a bit actually. People just didn't have Facebook to broadcast such things to the world over.

2) Not everybody loses their virginity by choice. Not everybody that chooses to engage in pre-marital sex is "sleeping around". And regardless of if they are or not, it's none of your damn business. Considering your attitude on the matter, I'm going to go out on a limb and assume you're some type of Christian. Just an FYI: Jesus was pretty clear about the fact that only God has the right to judge man. He was also a big fan of being humble. Pride and arrogance (which your post is just chock full of) was not cool in His book. So you should probably put down those big, hypocritical stones you're throwing at people that you personally feel have fallen short of His standards.

• There are white dresses that have a lot of red accents in them.. or if not you could play around with accesories making it your own. OR go to a QUINCEANERA shop. They have big puffy dresses, probably in red.
Ramona, maryparrish is VERY young. Her wedding isn't scheduled for more than two and a half years. Her first post on the Knot was titled "What age to get married?" This very judgmental and very young lady isn't going to get it, at least not until she has time to grow up. As for the OP, I'm suspecting a troll.
Posted by CMGr
I had a feeling ... honestly, whenever somebody is posting with that particular attitude about being a virgin on their wedding day, they're usually barely out of high school (And getting to finally have sex is a motivator behind getting married so young). There are lots of older women that wait for marriage ... they don't speak as if they're better than other women who didn't make the same choice. You know, because they're mature adults about it.

• Yikes! Um, can we all just say wedding planning is stressful and try to play a bit nicer? I am a total newbie on these boards, but trying to be a bit more polite for all paties involved would be unlikely to kill anyone....

And while I have a profound amount of respect for marriage, and am actually abstaining until our wedding day, my dress will have lovely red accents of some sort because we made darn sure we were quite well suited in EVERY respect before we decided to make it "official" !
