Where will you/have you hosted your off strip ceremony or reception?

We are locals and got married at The Silverton Hotel & Casino, just south of the strip off the 15. I know several brides have booked private mansions for their smaller, off strip weddings.

I'd love to hear more about these off-strip ideas! Seriously getting frustrated with the in-suite planning process for strip based hotels. :(

  • Xoeden what problems are you having?
  • We are having our ceremony and reception at Springs Preserve.  We are going to shuttle guests from the strip to the preserve.

@caesarsbride15 Fiancee's #1 hotel choice is the only hotel that we won't be able to smuggle catering in to, and going through their catering breaks the budget. Nothing else really 'wowed' him of the suites we saw. :( So now I'm wondering about reinventing the wheel.

My fiancé was also set on a certain hotel. I didn't want the hassle of sneaking so we finally booked Trevi today. I was willing to go off strip. He wasn't. But you really get so much more for your money off strip...

What other options have you considered? What's your guest count?

We're thinking a guest count of a maximum of 30. No dates set or anything like that because the venue will pretty much make everything else fall in to place. I'd really prefer something completely in suite because the idea of planning a proper wedding stresses me right out. I just can't find anything off-strip that quite fits our style or hits all the checkmarks. But I'm now exploring everything all over again; maybe I missed something.

  • Tell us about your style and checkmarks -- maybe one of us will know something!

I agree. What exactly are you looking for? Is there any compromise in maybe using in house catering for the suite he really wants?

We toured Mirage (Tower/Penthouse & Hospitality), MGM SkyLofts & Skyline Terrace, and the Cosmo Wraparound Terrace suites a couple weeks ago (plus Flamingo chapels & the Silver Sky chapels at the Linq). None of them screamed 'yes,' but he really liked SkyLofts.

I'm working really hard to get the SkyLofts suite, but we might compromise and just go with the hospitality suite at Mirage (his second choice). Unfortunately, the SkyLofts catering minimums breaks our budget, and I can't seem to get any break in the pricing.

I really love the idea of in-suite, because it's intimate and casual, which is very us. It's also a no-decoration-required venue approach, which is my favorite thing of all.

Maximum 30 guests, so we have to have a space big enough to accommodate that, with an age range from 19 to 79 as our guests. Probably about half of our guests are smokers, which is something I've come to realize I have to plan for, given as that I don't smoke myself.

We're both under the age of 30 and are very modern/contemporary with our decor tastes, and are trying to keep our suite amount under $1000/night. I'm not a fan of earth tones or light colors, which I'm finding to be a challenge as most suites have that.

I don't care if it's off-strip, as long as it has good strip views, is not standard 'hotel' feeling, is hassle-free, and won't break the budget.

@xoeden I am totally with you that the best part of in-suite is not having to decorate!

@hmgiffor did the rooftop of the Platinum and it seemed to be a hit!

The Stardust Suite in the Orleans might be a bit big for your group, but it's a pretty versatile space and seems well-reviewed. Dirt cheap rooms for your guests too iirc.

Red Rock Casino is pricey but they have some KILLER suites in a variety of sizes, and a lot of cool catering options.

The JW Marriott Las Vegas has huge suites for cheap, but they are pretty boring (earth tones aplenty). They do also offer The Edge Lounge which is a night club type setting, or The Lodge at the Lawn which is sort of a garden setting with an indoor space.

On-strip, Planet Hollywood's suites are fun and cheap. Not sure if any of them have balconies or outdoor spaces for the smokers though. If your group is smaller than 30, the suites at the Cromwell are really funky and fun; only the eponymous Cromwell Suite (with admittedly the least exciting decor of the set) would be big enough for 30+ people.
... but, I also warn you that the Cromwell Suite was actually our first choice until we called to book it. I had called the day before and talked to a very nice concierge about all the details of the suite (there's almost nothing in the way of pictures or video online). But when I called to book, credit card in hand and ready to throw down the money, reservations bounced me between 3 different people and the last one actually pretended the room DID NOT EXIST AT ALL and ARGUED WITH ME ABOUT IT and tried very hard to sell me one of the other suites instead. I even read her the suite description off The Cromwell's own website and she told me I must have called the wrong hotel. I get that the posh suites get held for high rollers, but if you don't want the hoi polloi calling to book it, don't put "Call this number to book this suite" on your website, and either way a simple "Sorry, the room isn't available for that weekend" would have sufficed. Fucking jerks. (Yeah, I'm still a little mad about it ;) )

Thank you so much for your help, @damnthetorpedos!

I've looked at the Stardust suite at the Orleans, but not totally sure where I am on that. I might have to reach out and check pricing. Red Rock I looked at as well and loved, but I can't remember if the cost broke the budget. I'll have to look again at that one too.

The JW Marriott is too standard wedding for me, with the exception of the Edge, which has capacity at twice the amount of guests we'd be inviting. :( I'm not sold on Planet Hollywood (that orange!), but seriously considered it.

I did absolutely everything I could took book the Cromwell Suite as well! That was my #1 choice right off the bat (that hotel is my absolute favorite), but apparently it's only suitable for up to 25. And I was totally willing to break budget to get it, too. :(

  • Yeah, sucks about The Cromwell. It's turning out OK for us too, though, since we've had a higher than expected RSVP rate thus far. It almost certainly would have ended up being too small.

Red Rock was our second choice, because the suites are so damn cool and the food options are great and the contact person (Lydia Pierce, the catering manager) was SO AWESOME about everything. But we just couldn't figure out a way to make it work financially. I would absolutely recommend it for anyone with a $10K+ total budget looking for an in-suite wedding.

We looked at lots of places after that and settled on the Presidential Superior Suite at the Delano (the "boutique" tower at Mandalay Bay, hat tip once again to the super awesome @jayjaay for answering all my questions about it!) -- perfect size for our group, we love the decor, nod-wink approach to outside vendors. For our guests, we also liked that Mandalay Bay has lots of options/price points for rooms (we got blocks in both towers) and food and entertainment while still technically being on the Strip.

    You're an awesome resource, girlie!

  • Hey, this board has saved my friggin' life more than once during this wedding planning craziness -- it's only fair to give back!
  • @damnthetorpedoes  Awwwww thank you! Delano gives such dramatic wedding photos which for me was just icing! The VIP staff treated us phenomenally as well. My final edited wedding photo was this. The tall draped pillars just loved it.

  • Is anyone else renting a private home? After weighing all the on-strip options, we decided to go this route because we will save so much on food and beverage AND my whole family will be able to stay at the "venue." We have 5 bedrooms for 3 nights for $2800. The home and yard are beautiful with tons of amenities and 6,000 square feet, so no one will feel cramped, I hope! It will be more of a DIY wedding in Vegas, then a "Vegas Wedding", which is perfect for us and our families.

I think that's a wonderful idea! We explored it, but trying to convince my fiancee on that was not happening. (He thinks that airbnb is 'weird.')

  • Have you heard of The Plaza on Whitney Ranch Road? We've booked our Ceremony and Reception there for October. Its a great looking establishment, with a beautiful spiral staircase in the foyer. (they have pics on their facebook page and website) The coordinator Brennon has been THE MOST helpful and accommodating person I've dealt with so far in Vegas. They offer really great deals for small or large receptions. we got a 4 hr open bar, buffet dinner, DJ & photographer deal for significantly less than any all inclusive I could find on the Strip or even off the strip. The package doesn't include a minister but I'm happy to search for my own. We are also doing our own center-pieces, but there is an option to pay extra for The Plaza to contract someone to do this for you. It is about 20 mins drive from the Strip but we've booked shuttle buses through Bell Limousine. $65 for 1 hr for a 24 seater van.

Good luck with deciding your venue :-)

It seems very traditional wedding, but very cool! I dread that whole planning and seating and centrepieces and everything, which is why I'm hoping to skip it and just go with something in-suite (I think we may have chosen a venue. May.)

What's their budget options like for packages?
    image
  • The base package is under $5000 for 60 people. (food, bar, DJ, venue for 4hrs + staff & clean up, inc tips and taxes) But if you have a smaller guest count, in-suite is the way to go. We originally booked MGM grand Skyline Terrace when we thought only 30 people were coming. But our numbers grew! Which is still awesome. The thing I liked about in-suite is, it's cost saving because you can buy your own booze and cater in food of your choice. Just make sure you have someone else do all of this organising for you (meeting the caterer to enter the room, picking up booze and ice etc) And you have a bridal suite for the night all in one, if you choose to sleep there too!! Just remember the clean up the next day. The hotel house-maids may need to b tipped extra if you leave all the mess for them. Or they may advise management and you may get a clean up bill.

P.s The Plaza can really do EVERYTHING for you. The DJ is affiliated with an events company so they do games, announcements, obv. music, and engage the guests a lot. We just opted to do our own centrepiece and minister.  Other than that, we just turn up and enjoy ourselves.

  • Regarding previous notes on this feed about renting a private home: Do your research! We booked a 5 bedroom house for the week through VRBO and the owners are wonderful to deal with and don't mind us having a few gatherings, bbq's & creating noise essentially.

But we had sift through a lot of picky owners to get the one that suited us. Other homes we visited and researched online did not allow music outside after 9pm, Or lights! even though they didn't even have neighbours! The owner said he would be staying in the guest house attached to the main house the entire time, and we were also quoted to pay an additional $500 just for having our "event" wedding in the back yard. One owner wanted to charge us $20 per visitor at any given time and said we'd also be fined if we had too many cars parked in the driveway!! Ridiculous right!?  My heart was set on a back yard casual ,fun relaxed atmosphere but these owners turned me off so much that's why we opted for a venue (The Plaza) to have our wedding and just have the house for accommodation.

  • Yes, I contacted lots of homeowners and most either did not respond, or said the home was not available. I had pretty much given up on the idea, but I found one listing that specifically stated that they had hosted a couple of small weddings so I emailed and they were quick to respond and seem happy to accommodate. I was contacting people over a year in advance, so I imagine if you are closer to the date, you might have better response from home owners. We wanted a more intimate vibe...the trade-off is having to do a little more ourselves. We will have a day-of helper, and it will be pretty low-key with just family and close friends, so I'm hoping it all goes off without a hitch!

Knottie, you are so on point! I'm going to hold on to that info for the Plaza in case we go over on our guest list numbers.
