Donuts

June 5th is national donut day. Below I have provided a link on where to acquire free ones that day. You're welcome.

I also discovered Dunkin Donuts Chips Ahoy flavored coffee. It's the weirdest thing but it feels like someone literally threw a cookie in there and left it. I highly recommend trying it. It's so bizarre but now I want another one.

Re: Donuts

  • we do not have any of those near us    :(

There is a place in Snowmass (ski slope) that has a chocolate chip cookie dough hot chocolate.    They take a ball of frozen cookie dough and plops it in a cup of hot chocolate.  AMAZING

  • Yessssss.

I'm pretty choosy about my donuts. Not a fan of the Krispy Kreme style. I like a good cake donut, crispy on the outside. Classic with chocolate frosting and peanuts.

  • It's so funny you posted this because I had a Dunkin craving today. I got the chips ahoy cream-filled donut. IT'S SO GOOD.

  • We have a donut biz here that makes donuts using craft beer and they are so freaking good. They've gone from food truck situation and were in a temporary home but their time was up last weekend and they don't have a perm home yet and I don't know where I'll be able to find them on Friday.

    I has a donut sad.

  • Weird, I'm eating a donut which is totally not normal for me. But there's a little family-owned place about a half hour from our house that's super famous around here. People all over the region call it "breakfast crack" because their donuts are so stupidly good and addicting. I couldn't keep resisting. I'm eating the caramel cinnamon kind. They're so fluffy and gooey and amazing!

  • I don't really like donuts. I like mostly all sweets and cakes and things but donuts, ehhh.

Except at Carolina Beach in NC there is a donut shop called Britt's. Best. Donuts. Ever. I've waited in line for close to an hour before.

  • Best donut I ever had was from Dough @ Smorgasburg.

  • There's a Dunkin Donuts in the library at work, which is right next door to my building. So I will definitely be partaking on Friday.

  • I used to not like dounuts very much, but I discovered that I just don't like cheap donuts from places like DD (sorry to the DD fans). Give me a really good, home-made or gourmet donut and I'm in heaven!

Since I'm trying to eat healthier I'm both sad and glad that the awesome donut place that visits the lobby of my building on some Fridays was not there today.

Now I just have to hope I don't run into the food truck for another donut place when I'm leaving work. Oh and avoid the bakery I live 3 doors from. This is gonna be hard!

Thanks to you all, I got myself a donut at DD while waiting to pick up FI at the airport.  It wasn't that good, but I still ate it all.

I was spoiled in my hometown... there was a little drivethru donut place (it was in an old old fashioned hamburger stand building) that has the most amazing donuts, and Diet Dr Pepper with crushed ice.  Whenever I'm there, which it's been awhile, I go and get one of their cake donuts with white frosting and rainbow sprinkles.

  • I picked up donuts for my entire department this morning on my way to work.

There was a guy behind me in line who had two kids with him. The kids didn't realize it was National Donut Day. The dad was like, "So you know how there's Memorial Day? And MLK Day? Well there's also National Donut Day."  *facepalm*

....Because donuts are totally on par with civil rights and soldiers who have died protecting their country. I know he didn't mean it like that but I'm laughing and wtf-ing so hard right now.

    This is
exactly what I was thinking. I ALMOST turned around and said "yep kids....it's totally the same thing. Your dad is spot on." But I didn't feel like getting into a fight in the donut line...

  • People at my work are really big on doughnuts. There is a table with probably 12 boxes of doughnuts about 15 feet from my desk. I have resisted the urge (it helps that they are selling them for $1 for charity, and I have no cash).

I would also like to point out my very specific and nit-picky pet peeve: it's spelled doUGHnut. Not donut.

Dunkin' Donuts screwed everyone in to using bad spelling.

  • I didn't have a donut today.   I saw yesterday  the local City Market (Kroger's company) sold donuts for 25 cents today.    Not worth it for me to take a special trip.

    Sigh

  • We're talking about donuts from Dunkin Donuts though, not doughnuts from a bakery. ;)

I also didn't have a donut today :( My sister and I were gonna go to DD today but she went earlier with her boyfriend. I was too lazy to go.

  • Never had Dunkin' Donuts before (afaik there aren't any here in Canada), but it's on my bucket list.  If their Boston Kreme is as good or better than the ones I get from Tim Horton's, I will be one happy woman:image

Looks to me like people are talking about all kinds of donuts/doughnuts... Tim Hortons, random bakeries, etc. Not that it's actually a big deal or something worth defending, but the grammar nerd in me will always cringe when I see it spelled incorrectly, unless you are referring to "Dunkin' Donuts" (proper noun).

They're still doughnuts, though. They're just doughnuts sold by Dunkin Donuts.  A business name doesn't change the spelling of the item.  Or I'm actually driving a kar.

They are coming out with a whole nutella line. Find a border town, there will be a Tim Horton's there :)

My response was more towards tfmrserwin who mentioned DD messing up the spelling and I pointed out that I was talking about DD. I've never seen such discussion over the spelling of a pastry, tbh.

No, I was pointing out that everyone on here, in most contexts (not just DD) were spelling it "donuts". Which is not a word, unless it's a proper noun preceded by "Dunkin".

ETA: And as I mentioned, I am not actually upset over it. It is just one of those words that most people misspell, and it's become so ubiquitous that most people don't even realize that's not how you spell it. Just an aside.

  • I know you weren't upset, don't worry :p I typically go back and forth with spelling and had never really thought about it before, though Google Chrome marks "donut" as incorrect, which I never caught before either. Every article I saw had "National Donut Day", too!

Dammit you guys, now that it has been pointed out I will now always mentally correct it as doughnut! Some food for thought, definitely. No pun intended. Well, now that I thought about it it may be intended. *shifty eyes*

Yep, that's what I do too. Funny story for background on this issue: When my sister was in 2nd grade, she wrote some story and referenced a "doughnut." Her teacher crossed it out and wrote "donut." My sister was annoyed, since her teacher didn't even know how to spell it. So since then I always notice when it's spelled incorrectly.

What the?? That would irritate the shit out of me. Like I said, I could understand using both... But to say doughnut is incorrect is just ridiculous.
