Do these look like tiaras?

I'm really not into the whole looking like a princess of queen on my wedding day. I love fairytales and Disney more than the average adult does, but I want to look like a better version of me at my wedding, not the princess/queen version of me.

That being said, I've started looking for accessories for my dress. By chance I wore a crystal/pearl headband when I bought my dress and really liked how they looked together. Now that I've started shopping, I found two headbands that I love but I'm worried they look like tiaras. My hair will be black on the day of the wedding, so I'm assuming the ivory ribbon on the side may be more easily seen, so I may just REALLY be overthinking this. Let me know if you think they look like tiaras or if I'm just overthinking this and need to relax.

Re: Do these look like tiaras?

  • I think they are very pretty and will look fine (especially since they sit flat on your head, as opposed to tiaras which stick up).

Tiaras sit up more those are headbands. I would be concerned about the ribbon though maybe let your hairstylist know first and see how it could work to hide it

In the old days (1970s), veils were attached to headbands, caps or tiaras.  Tiaras look like a crown.  Beaded headbands and foundation caps are not the same thing.  (I don't like tiaras on anyone who isn't royalty.  JMHO.)  Your pictures look fine!  Go for it!

PS.  My veil was attached to a beaded Juliette cap.  Very fashionable in 1976.

  • Those are headbands, not tiaras.  I wore a wrap around headband and loved it.  In no way did it make me look like I was wearing a tiara

  • Those definitely don't look like tiaras. I love them.

If you're concerned about the ribbon showing, maybe there's a way to dye it or hide it?

  • I am wearing a crystal headband as well and I don't want the ribbon to show. It's too early for my hair trial but my hairdresser told me she will be able to hide the ribbon under my hair, similar to some of the pictures you posted. You may have to tweak your hairstyle a bit to make it work, but I wouldn't worry about it!
  • Those look beautiful and not at all like tiaras!
  • They all look like headbands to me because, as others have stated, tiaras stick up and do not lay flat against your hair.

If you are still worried go with the one that looks like it has more pearls on it. I still do not think any of them look like tiaras but the "bling" ones fall closer to that area I guess. I have never seen a pearl tiara I do not think.

Wear what makes you feel beautiful!
  • Thanks everyone! I was worried they had a tiara "look" to them. I may buy one and see how it looks with my dress. If I don't like it, I can always just give it away to my sister or something.

If the ribbon is your only concern you might want to consider a hair vine. They have wire bases rather than ribbon ones so the only contrast to the sparkle would be your hair:

  • Oh no, I'm not concerned about the ribbon at all. I actually prefer ribbon because my head starts to ache with anything else.

  • The ribbon would be very easy to change to a color closer to your hair color.  My headband came with elastic and I'm cutting it off and replacing with ribbon.  My hairdresser suggested either brown or one of my wedding colors rather than ivory.

  • I don't mind the ribbon color. They all come in ivory, which is what I preferred. I would actually want some of the ribbon to peek out a little.

Ah, my mistake. It's not princess-y, you'll look lovely and it'll give you a bit of extra pop without going overboard. I had similar worries about pairing my sparkles with a veil but when I saw it all put together it was surprisingly subtle.

Thank you so much! :) I'm also a little concerned about it being too much. Thank you for the reassurance :)
