Bought my dress... now what!? HELP!

My hunt for the perfect wedding dress is finally over (yay!) but I ran into another hurdle...

I've always imagined that I would be wearing a tulle princess ball gown for my wedding (my pinterest board is full of these dresses) but when I walked into the local bridal boutique I fell in love with a Jasmine Couture dress which was nothing like I imagined wearing! So I ended up buying this dress and now I'm completely lost as to what to do in terms of accessorizing to match this ivory-with-champange belt, lace-organza dress.

My wedding is going to be held at a vineyard and the place has a very tuscany-italian feel.

I've always wanted to have flowers in my hair and have my hair half-up but in terms of jewelry and veil I'm lost...

Also, I'm not sure how to match my bridesmaids' dresses to complement my dress. I've attached pictures of the dress I got as well as the bridesmaids' dress that I've picked tentatively (thinking lilac/lavendar color-wise). My bridesmaids' budget is approximately $60-70 for the dress!

Please help, thank you in advance!

Re: Bought my dress... now what!? HELP!

  • Stop overthinking this.  Your dress is gorgeous and since it is ivory/champagne will go with just about anything.  I think the BM dress you posted would work just fine with your dress.  Really any cocktail or long dress would.  Now it would be different if your dress was the short BM dress and you wanted your BMs to wear your wedding gown.  The formality level would be completely off.

And you can still wear flowers in your hair.  If you do wear a veil I would suggest a cathedral length, one tier, raw edge veil.  You don't want the veil competing with your dress.  But you don't even have to wear a veil if you don't want to.  And if you do wear flowers in your hair I would just nix the veil completely.  As for other jewelry you don't want to over do it.  What do you typically wear on a daily basis?  If I were you I would get a nice pair of stud or drop earrings and a simple bracelet.  You don't want your accessories to compete with your dress.

    Earrings.  Maybe a bracelet.

Your bridesmaids will look lovely too.  If that dress is in their budget, go ahead with it.  If it's not, get a paint swatch at the hardware store of the range of lilac you were thinking, and give them to your girls and let them pick any dress they want in that color.

You're going to be a beautiful bride.

You're over-thinking this. Your dress is GORGEOUS. Don't over-think the accessories or they will compete with the dress. I think simple accessories will go a long way. As for the veil, there are styles that are attached to decorative barrettes and can be detached after the ceremony. Look at styles of veils that are more pushed back from your face so they don't cover your entire head so you can still put flowers on the side. You can also do flowers in a halo/crown style around your head and have the veil attached.

  • Thank you!!
I'm thinking more rose gold as opposed to silver/ white gold when it comes to jewelry just because of the off-white/ivory tone with champagne which might clash with the silver/white.

This is the sort I'm looking at... would this work? maybe with a pair of earrings similar in design and color...
But thanks for the feedback, I'm definitely more comfortable with the dress choice now!!
  • I don't think you need a necklace with that dress- it would distract. Stick with some awesome earrings.

    Beautiful dress.
  • Love the necklace OP , especially with a simple pearl drop earring, but I also agree it could go without. A lace or a raw edge veil would both be beautiful in fingertip or chapel, possibly cathedral length depending on your train length and the dress in either purple color would look good or mix/match shades since not all grapes are the same color exactly :)
  • The dress is absolutely stunning, it isn't the type I would be looking at originally but as you say it's amazingly gorgeous so it trumps the ones you'd had in mind! You'll look amazing I'm sure!
  • Your dress is amazing!!  I love it!!  Since you have that lovely belt I wouldn't wear a bracelet!  But I would wear a great necklace and earrings.  Check out www.bellabridalandheirlooms.com they have beautiful headpieces, veils and jewelry and they are not expensive.  Check out their headpiece called "Best-Selling Handmade Bridal Headband with Painted Gold Vines"  It is stunning and I think it will go so nice with your dress!!  I think if you add a brooch to the belt of your bridesmaids dresses it will compliment your dress without being to much of the same look. You can buy them the brooch and gift it to them for being in your wedding.  Brooches are great gifts because they can wear them again on a scarf or a hat or a jacket or coat!!  Hope this helps.  Good luck!

OP and other lurkers, if you want to buy your bridesmaids brooches to wear with their dresses, that's fine, but you can't really count it as their gift, because it's really just part of their uniform for the day.  I know some of the ladies around here say that they wouldn't ever wear a brooch again, as it's just not their style. When shopping for your bridesmaids gifts, shop like you were shopping for their birthdays. Get them something personal, that you feel they would actually like, not just something that fits into your vision.

As for your dress, it's just drop-dead gorgeous. I'm always a fan of pearls for accessorizing, especially with lace, but that's just personal preference. This would also look great with crystal-type jewelry.

  • I think you can absolutely still do hair half up with a veil and flowers in your hair to go great with that dress. I don't love the way the flowers are here, but here's the general idea:

Essentially the flowers just go at the back where the veil attaches. It should be easy to detach the veil for the reception and still have the flowers, too!
