Too many Groomsmen for reception

My fiance and I are getting married in Jamaica and are having a reception a month and a half later. The problem is I have 4 bridesmaids & 1 bridesman. He is having a total of 9 groomsmen. All of them might not make it to Jamaica. For the trip as of now I will have 3 bridesmaids and he will have 5. That's if no other guys decide to go. For the reception we will have the whole party possibly. Any suggestions?

And I still don't understand what you're asking here for suggestions?...

ETA: Like if you have uneven sides, how should you stand? Or how should people walk down the aisle or?...

  • Ok, I'm assuming you're concerned that the sides aren't even? So perhaps wondering how to do the processional?

If so, I have two suggestions:

    1) have the GMs start up front - this is a pretty typical way to do things - and just have the BMs process.
    2) have the BMs paired up with more than one GM.. you might have to do this with a couple of your BMs. No biggie. Looks like this:

  • I do not understand the question.

I also do not understand the need for a WP at a reception 6 weeks after the actual wedding.   The AHR is just that a reception.  A party if you will.   There is no need for a WP.

Whoever makes it to Jamaica is in the WP. Those are the ones standing up witnessing your ceremony.  At the reception those same people are just guests at a party.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • I am not understanding what you are asking.

For your AHR you shouldn't have your wedding party dressed as a wedding party.  An AHR is just a party to celebrate your marriage, not a place to redo what was done in Jamaica.  So the members of your wedding party are now just guests like everyone else and don't need to be dressed a certain way or introduced or paired up.
great mind think alike.  I started my reply, but had to take a phone call and didn't see your reply until after I hit post.

    Yep, these.

First, having uneven sides is totally fine. H and I had uneven sides (6 groomsmen, 5 bridesmaids) and it was not a big deal at all. We had the GMs come in from the side and stand at the front with H. The BMs processed one by one (which is pretty common). For the recessional they paired off, so the last BM walked with two GMs.

Sides do not need to be even. The point is to have your nearest and dearest standing up with you, so if he has 20 nearest and dearests and you have 3, then so be it. It's fine.

And as the ladies above said, you will only have a WP for your wedding, which is happening in Jamaica. The thing you're doing back home is a party to celebrate your marriage after the fact, so you do not re-enact the wedding.

  • Who cares how many each of you has?
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • It's ok if you don't have even sides or even if all these people don't come to Jamaica.  What you're doing at home isn't a "wedding" because that's what you're doing in Jamaica.  You only get to do it once per marriage.

Your reception is on your wedding day.  It is when you greet each guest personally and thank them for coming to your ceremony.  You offer them food and drink.

That is all.  You get one day.  You can have a party to celebrate your return at a later date, but it is NOT your wedding reception.  Please do not try to turn this event into one.  No wedding dress, no attendants, no wedding related activities, such as bouquet tossing or the ritual cake cutting and feeding ceremony.   It is NOT  your wedding day, and you are no longer the bride.  You are a married woman who has returned from her honeymoon.  It is perfectly fine to show off wedding  pictures and honeymoon photos.  Gifts are not expected, since this party is not a part of your wedding.  (By this time you should have sent out all your thank you notes, anyway.)

Invitations to  this party should be sent out separately from your wedding invitations, since it is a separate event from your wedding.

The pleasure of your company is requested
to celebrate the recent marriage of
    Bride's Full Name
    and
    Groom's Full Name
    Date of party
    Time o'clock
    Venue
    Address
    City, State

Anyone who cannot attend your wedding ceremony is not in your wedding party by definition.
