@dignity100 don't make that sign unless you actually have a Vet in the house. I suggest giving Loki Rescue Remedy. You just put a few drops in his water or on a treat, and it helps with anxiety. I give it to Callie in situations I know will give her anxiety, and it completely helps calm her down without doping her up.

@cu97tiger yes Aw your haircut!

@jenjen047 focus on how much fun you are going to have instead of a proposal. As @cu97tiger said, is it going to change your relationship if it doesn't happen? So just have fun and focus on all the fun bbq things.

Morning everyone -- this week has been chaos. Tuesday I spent the day prepping for my huge off site meeting that was yesterday. I left work to take my mom out for dinner. Get to her house to find that we have to go to the hospital because her blood work was all over the place and the dr thought she had a stone (and since she no longer has a gall bladder it was deemed an emergency). So went to the hospital and it was a disaster. I stayed with her until 10:30, no one had checked her in yet, and then start searching for someone to help. She wasn't actually seen until midnight.

I left so I could get sleep before work. After the meeting my boss banned me from the office and told me to go to the hospital. At this point, nothing was scheduled (and my mom did not have any food since 4:00pm Tuesday). At 4 o'clock they finally ran a test to check her pancreas to make sure she could handle surgery. There was some sort of emergency and then the doctor left, so she didn't get the results until 9:00am this morning. They said the stone must have passed and she could go home. They were planning on scheduling an outpatient egd test. She told them that was pointless and to just do the procedure now since she has been there for 3 days. She just got approval and will be getting that this afternoon (though we have no idea what time).

So now just waiting to find out when she will be released so we can pick her up. This is supposedly the best hospital in the area. I am so furious with how they have treated her. Also, furious with the doctor who told her that it was life threatening and she needed to get to a hospital immediately. Clearly, it wasn't an emergency if once we got to the hospital no one reacted.

hospitals are terrible. Very sweet of your office to "ban" you.

Stones aren't fun even with a galbladder - friend of mine's spouse was in hospital for about a week getting stones out and them debating on taking the whole thing out.

So, I'm finally feeling back to normal today! Well, mostly. I didn't make it through the full distance of my run this morning, but I also blame the heat for that.
I get off two hours early today, and I'm going to run home and toddler-proof everything! I'm so excited our friends are in town, and that I get to hang out with one of the funniest little kids I know! I went to the grocery store last night and managed to spend over 200 bucks, but I'll be feeding 4.5 people the whole weekend, and more on Saturday, so at least I feel well prepared! I just need to get booze now. And fireworks. And firewood.
The menu for the 4th is: Pulled pork sandwiches on Hawaiian rolls, Velveeta cucumber ranch pasta salad, Mexican corn bread, Kale/veggie salad, Chips and multi-layer dip, and Dutch apple pie! I'm so excited to EAT!

@labro - I have the anxiety meds ready for Loki. I have a mild one and a super strong one depending on how bad it is (the super strong one sucks, he has a hard time getting up and down stairs with how dopey it makes him); unfortunately the thundershirt did nothing for him. Hope you have a fun weekend with the family.

@TwoDimes - I haven't seen those CDs before - I've done the calming 'Through a Dog's Ear' before. I'll look into it though. Hope you have awesome weather and gets in tons of hiking.

@minskat30 - Hope Raj handles the fireworks well. What stinks is fireworks are illegal to fire off, but our police don't do anything about it. Our houses are very close together and just about every community does a free display. Sounds like an amazing spin class!

@speakeasy14 - Rescue Remedy has no affect on Loki - glad it works for your Callie (I tried it after my other dog passed away and he had anxiety issues).

@Swazzle @cu97tiger @speakeasy14 - Don't worry, I am NOT putting a sign out. There are multiple reasons I do not like the fireworks. I do have friends/family that have been in combat zones, thankfully they have not had any issues that I know of. There was a case in my neighborhood a few years ago though where a person had asked his neighbors to stop shooting off fireworks - explained it, they didn't listen, the guy called the cops - cops basically said 'it's the 4th what do you expect' - he did end up shooting his neighbors (fatally) and he is currently doing 20 years. Fireworks in my state are illegal (beyond simple novelties sparklers, snap-caps, and snakes); but the area police tend to not care - I think it would make a great revenue generator and other communities are already announcing they are using it as such. There are TONS of free local displays with professional displays in my area. Yes, I do have selfish reasons as well such as I do not trust my neighbors with fireworks (our houses are close together separated by a driveway) and not just my pats but all the neighborhood pets.

@Dignity100 - Yea, I think it's really fucked up to want to put up a sign using a war vet battling PTSD as an excuse because your dog doesn't like fireworks and that's literally what your OP said.

@Dignity100 That story about your neighborhood is awful. However, I can't help but think that this guy was clearly aware of his PTSD and knew it would be a problem. He probably could've done more to prevent what happened - like plan a vacation in a known quiet area away from all the excitement. It really is terrible what happened and that he ended up in prison because of it (rather than a secure mental health facility). Maybe there is more to this story that we don't know.

I'm in Massachusetts. They are legal right over the boder in New Hampshire. I think the states are split about 50/50 on legal fireworks.

Today is my Friday and I'm so excited! Work is surprisingly slow today which is so nice because I'm not really here mentally. I'm ready for the day to be over and to start my long holiday weekend!

This morning my boss took me to breakfast for my birthday which was nice. Then he ran into someone he knew who mistook me for his wife which was awkward. And guys, this is the most amazing news - I only work ONE Saturday this month! One!! I'm ecstatic about this!

Today after work BF and I are going to get everything ready for camping and leave early Friday morning. Supposedly one of our friends is coming with us (meeting us up there Friday night) but we haven't heard from her all week so I'm not sure if she is still coming or not. I'm thinking we'll rent a movie for tonight. Last week we rent The Maze Runner, which I loved and it got BF to start reading the books which makes me so excited because he doesn't read a lot but that series is probably my absolute favorite second only to Harry Potter. So it will be fun to get to talk with him about it! I'm thinking maybe The Imitation Game for tonight. I love Benedict Cumberbatch and it looks really good so hopefully BF will want to watch it.

@caseface5 - I kind of just mix it together. You'll know when it's right. But it's my picnic/bbq/potluck go-to.

- Cook a box of those macaroni slice noodles (Ditalini).

- When they're al dente, drain and stir in about 1/3 of a block of velveeta, cut into smaller squares, until it's melted.

- Squeeze in some mayo (few Tablespoons?) and some ranch (1/8 cup-ish).

- Stir in one whole peeled cucumber cut into very small cubes.

- At this point I taste it and typically add more ranch/mayo.

- Refrigerate until it firms a little. If you want, before serving, I add a little more ranch to moisten it back up.

While shooting a family fatally is awful and never should have happened, I have also held conbat vet FI's head in my lap, holding pillows over his ears to drown out the sound of fireworks in the past. It was heartbreaking. I am thankful that he was able to overcome it to where he can function alright during a fireworks display, but you can still see the trauma and fear in his eyes.

Like @jenna8984 I enjoy some of my alone time but like @jenjen047 my H works nights so we only see each other awake a couple times a week. He has Sundays and Mondays off this year which is awesome- before that we hadn't had Sundays together in about 7 years. It really sucks.

I have pretty much nothing planned for this weekend- I feel so lame! Work is letting us out 2 hours early today so I'm leaving in an hour and going to the Social Security office to change my name. Then hopefully my friend will be around to go for a walk- otherwise I'm going home and relaxing. I have tomorrow off but no one's around to go to the beach so my goal is to work on TY cards..and maybe clean and do laundry. H (acually just wrote FI first haha) actually got the 4th off but I don't know what we're doing- none of our friends have mentioned any parties. We might go to my aunt's house for a really small cook out there. Sunday will probably just be hanging on the couch.

Hi ladies, sorry I have been MIA. I needed to focus on work this week, but I am honestly getting very burnt out with my job. On top of that, the VP mentioned in an all hands meeting yesterday that they are finalizing layoff decisions and will be making them within the next two weeks.

We fought with Lowe's on Monday about the dryer, and decided to get a refund and re-order it from Home Depot. It should be arriving next Monday. The assistant manager that we dealt with was wonderful, but she realized how many mistakes were made by her employees while dealing with us and was upset for us, and assured us that she would be retraining many of them. She offered us a stand in dryer, and was livid when we (kind of angrily) asked her why it wasn't offered to us a month and a half ago. Just things like that that she had no idea her employees were doing. Hopefully it does improve the service for others though.

FI heard back from a recruiter at Google on Monday that his resume had been received and they were passing it around the various departments to see if any of them were interested in him. I am crossing every appendage I have that he gets an interview.

Thanks for all the T&P, they screwed up again, so my mom has demanded to be released. Waiting for the nurse who put her IV in wrong to come take it out, and the dr to release her then going home. My sister and BIL are on their way to pick her up. I'm going to bring her ice cream tonight, and chocolate.

For the top hospital, they have horrible service. We're going to schedule her procedure at the smaller hospital where they did her gall bladder surgery.

Ok so I haven't been around a lot because I've been busy. I have a project in my class that's worth 60% of my grade and it's taken a lot of data massaging (and skipped meals and lost sleep) to get to the point where I can consider starting to make the model. Finished going through more of the chapters of my dissertation. I have portions of chapters 3 and 4 to clean up this weekend. Midterm exam in class is Tuesday.

My TOTM showed up yesterday without any of my usual symptoms, so thanks for that, body.

The theory was that H and I were going to his dad's place for the 4th since we both have a long weekend and it's a bit of a drive to get there. I'm not totally sure what to do about it. FIL and SMIL aren't the most understanding people about having other things that have to get done. I have class work and dissertation, H might have work to continue to do to get ready for bigwigs to show up at his work on Monday. Tonight we'll be able to decide whether or not to go.

So the weekend is kind of up in the air right now.
