  • @swazzle - You can stalk your StitchFix before it arrives?? (makes note to self for next month).

@labro and @southernpeach89 and@minskat30 - Aww, thanks ladies! I kept the dress because I could imagine so many different ways to wear it.

@peaseblossom55 - That's no good. Did they tell you where you were on the scale? Like did you barely fail it or was it significantly off?

    @alpacina - I love Buckle jeans :)

@eilis1228 My only thought here is you seem to really be stressing out over this thing. At least with a suit or tux rental you already have something picked out, you KNOW they'll have a warehouse full of sizes and something will be reserved for your groomsmen the day of the wedding, they just need to get fitted, nobody needs to run around from store to store trying to find the right suit at an affordable price. Sometimes rental companies give discounts - like free rental for the groom, free rental for the FOB, and you can just pass the savings on to your bridal party.

Do any of the guys already own black suits? I say, if Fi doesnt wan't to do a rental, just tell the guys any black suit and white shirt combo is fine (like you can say no pin stripes or something) and then you can buy their ties or whatever. Honestly, it'll all look great together. All of our groomsmen wore a rented tux except one who had just bought  a really nice black suit for his wedding. His outfit was slightly different than the others but it doesn't even stand out noticeably in pictures. Plus he was happy and so were we.
I like this idea too -- way less stress on you.

  • Thanks everyone!

@cu97tiger they said my levels were slightly elevated, but given all of the family history of diabetes and my mom and my sister having GD I figured it was inevitable.

  • @eilis1228 How many groomsmen are there again? It gets hard having to coordinate stuff and I think @labro is right about rentals just being easier. It was the only way for us since 2 out of my FI's groomsmen live out of state so we just made life easy and did rentals through men's wearhouse. We saved money by skipping the shoes (they are so ugly and uncomfortable) and just telling the guys to wear black dress shoes. We used a coupon too, I believe it was $40 off. One of the groomsmen is going to return all of the rentals the next day.

@labro @speakeasy14 This is FI's thing. I'm personally not stressing about it, he is. He wants to do a charcoal suit for the guys and a light grey suit for him. He was hoping to have them buy the suits because a lot of places he looked don't offer suit rentals, just tuxes, but he also doesn't want his GMs to spend a ton of money. He is also very particular about the quality of the suits. He found an online retailer that he really liked, but they need 4 months' notice on the suits, so we just missed the deadline. Right now he's weighing his options and getting a feel for what's available. He's just stressed because he didn't think it would be this difficult to figure out. He did say that if he does opt for a rental, he'll probably just go with a tux because it's easier. He's only been seriously researching this for a couple of days though, so we'll see what he finds and what he decides on. His goal is to make a decision by the end of the month so that the GMs who are students will have time to purchase/rent/get fitted/whatever before school starts.

@500days We have 6 GMs, though one is a woman, so we'll probably have to have her buy a suit from Ann Taylor or Banana Republic or something. He wants them to be in a charcoal suit, white shirt, black tie, and either a black or a plum pocket square. They can wear their own black dress shoes as well. Nothing too fancy or particular, but FI had his own vision of how this would all go down, and he's learning that he will likely need to change that vision. He was hoping to avoid rentals, and he was hoping to avoid chains like Men's Wearhouse or Jos A Banks. I think he'll have to swallow his pride and go that route though.

  • @caseface5 - They sent me that dress in burgundy last fall and I absolutely LOVED it. I sent it back, though, because I had a very similar dress in a very similar color so I sadly couldn't justify keeping it.

  • @eilis1228 I agree with @labro about the suits.
H got his from Asos.com (I found it) because he wanted a really specific type of slim fit suit and didn't want to pay a ton of money (it was $200) or get one custom made. We just told the guys to wear any blue or grey suit. Honestly I really like the look of everyone not matching exactly but I know that's not everyone's thing.

  • @lavenderfields13 I'm passing asos.com to FI. Thank you for the tip! $200 was his ideal price point, so hopefully that website works out for him. Thank you again!

  • Just signed up for stitch fix thanks to you guys! I definitely put that I prefer "cheap as possible" for all options haha. I set it up so that I could schedule my own shipments since I cannot afford to do that all the time. I'll be excited to get something random in the mail that someone else picked for me!
I'd love to do Blue Apron too but I wouldn't eat any of those meals, I wish my taste buds weren't so damn picky :(

  • You're welcome @eillis1228. Hope he figures something out. I was super stressed about H's suit before the wedding because he is so lax about everything and I was afraid he'd have nothing!

  • Aw @Lavenderfields13 one of us could have referred you! LOL. Hope you like it!

Aww, crap! Sorry! There was no referral fields when I signed up so I didn't realize they did that :(

@alpacina - I use Pinterest as my crockpot cookbook :)

I got sick of getting food on my electronics. I need paper copies that I can splash stuff all over.

And I used to print individual recipes, until I ended up with a giant stack of papers. I don't take time to organize stuff like that myself.

Guess I'll just have to do some online shopping for a recipe book.

  • I have that one and love it!

  • Need to snark:
Just received information for my high school reunion -- semi-formal attire (in a casual bar) from 5-9pm -- $100 per couple -- cash bar -- coffee, tea, hors d'oeuvres, and light apps provided

    image
So basically they want us to dress up really nice and spend a lot of money to hang out in a bar.  Not feed anyone during a meal time, and have a cash bar.  I should also state, that cash bar includes non-alcoholic other than coffee and tea. So what would my $100 be paying for?

My bf and I will not be going.  We decided that we would rather take that money and go out for a really nice dinner.

@speakeasy14 - Or turn it into 1's and go Cartman on it.

    image

So weak! Do you think they might use the money raised to make a donation "gift" to the school from its alumni or something? Huge ticket price + Cash bar = No sense.

  • @speakeasy14 yeah reunions suck. I helped plan my 10 year and it was $60 a couple (or $30 single ticket), cash bar but we had pizza buffet and like 4 passed apps. Most of the money went towards venue rental and school donation. I had close to 400 people graduate in my class and only 60-70 people came.
