Wedding Woes

I'm a pacifier

My baby wants a boob in his mouth All.the.time. He isn't hungry, just wants to suck, and only takes a real paci at night. This is the only way he will nap also, so I can't put him down without him crying. Part of me thinks this is my fault somehow, but I dont think you can spoil a 2 month old.

Arghh. Tied to the couch all damn day.

Not allowing him to figure out how to self soothe is your fault, though.

Can he take a real paci during the day?   Seems like that might solve the problem.

Well that's kind of my thought Nico- do I let him cry it out this early? Everything I've read has said not til 4 months.

He spits out a paci during the day most of the time, unless we are out somewhere and he's in the carseat.

As a generalization, I do not get why mothers get all in a tizzy about letting their kid cry. As long as its not for long stretches it won't kill them. The Boy cried for damn sure, but honestly 5 minutes wasn't the end of the world if I had to do something. He figured it out eventually. Yesterday I had to separate posts on FB asking about how to put your kid in bed without crying. I don't know about anyone else but it goes like this....put kidding bed, close door, stay out of room, if they cry for more than 10 minutes or something...go back in. But FFS, you should be able to put a 2 year old in bed and not have every night be a utter meltdown. Sorry. I'm ranting.

we let baby mo start cio at five months.  but for the first 3 months, he fed at will, but i did cut him off after a certain point.

are you formula feeding?  you can do an extended feed, and that can help his natural desire to suck.
    -- use newborn nipples only
    -- feed sitting up
-- hold the bottle as horizontally as possible
-- break the latch and pause every once in a while
this helps mimic actual nursing, which is a longer process than just downing a bottle.  when babies are lying down or using a larger nipple size, they can take in more formula but it can also lead to more vomiting and it does not satiate the need to suck.

No joke, gig kid's parents put the paci in his mouth and used a burp rag to strap it in to his face.  They wrapped the burp rag so either end met at the back of his head.

I did not do this when he was in my care.

    I'm mortified.
However, it does explain a lot about gig kid.

I am supplementing with formula, so the extended feed is an option. We will be transferring him to the crib from rock n play soon, so letting him cry for 10 minutes will be our routine soon methinks. Pmeg, as my mama always said "he's not going to cry any blood"

For only 30 cents a day you could add to this new moms couch shaped ass, and feed her Bon bons for a week.

    what nico said.

put him down in the crib and walk away. let him cry. if he's full, clean diaper, not gassy, etc. he's fine. he'll figure it out and go to sleep.

give him a little music or white noise.

put him in a swing or a bouncer, walk away.

Wolverine was STTN at 5-6 weeks (6+ hour stretches) - she was fed and put in bed from night 1 - even if she was awake. i made a point of not letting her fall asleep on me. (occasionally she would while nursing, and if she had enough, i would put her in her crib/pnp/swing). sure she'd cry sometimes, but she'd stop on her own and at ~13mo, we never have a problem with her at bedtime.
she was never big on a paci, but she's a thumb sucker now.

I know I'm chimming in late but what is the big deal?  Your kid is 2 months old.  They don't really have a memory until 3 months.  Tank did this to me and he was/is fine.  He used a paci at night as well.

If it bothers you that much then keep a paci near by and when is is asleep switch out your nipple for the paci.  He should be too tired to notice the difference.  To get out of holding him once he's asleep put him down and have him cuddles with a "tube" pillow or a nice rolled up towel.
